Two arrested in police chase across Carleton North

Marshall Turner, 23, of Beaconsfield, and Kelsey Janetta Brooker, 30, of Florenceville-Bristol, were arrested and charged by RCMP following a police chase across Carleton North this week.

Turner appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 25 for a bail hearing. The hearing was adjourned until May 2 at 9:30 a.m. to allow him more time to consult legal counsel. He was charged with possession of stolen property, flight from police, dangerous driving and breach of probation. 

Brooker was charged with breaching a conditional sentence order and remanded for a bail hearing on April 26 at 1:30 p.m. 

They were arrested on April 23 after police pursued the pair through Beaconsfield, Florenceville-Bristol and Johnville, where they were apprehended with the assistance of a police dog and police helicopter. Turner and Brooker both have a prior criminal record.

Change of plea in drug trafficking case

Two women from Grand Falls appeared in provincial court on April 25 for a preliminary hearing on multiple counts of drug trafficking.

Lori Guest and her daughter, Amber Gaunce, were each charged by RCMP with possession of cocaine, methamphetamine, nabilone, clonazepam, and magic mushrooms, all for the purpose of trafficking in connection with an incident on March 2, 2023, in Grand Falls. They elected trial by judge alone at the Court of King’s Bench. 

Guest changed her plea to guilty on the trafficking charges, and Gaunce pleaded guilty to one count of possession of magic mushrooms. They return to court for sentencing on Sept. 23 at 1:30 p.m.

Coldstream woman back in custody

Alexandra Marie Weeks, 20, of Coldstream, appeared in provincial court in custody on April 25 on a charge of breaching her release order (curfew). She was remanded to jail to await a bail hearing on April 29 at 1:30 p.m.

Weeks was charged by RCMP for breaching curfew on April 17 at Coldstream. She also appeared in provincial court in custody on April 2 to answer four other charges laid by RCMP. She was scheduled to return to court for plea on April 30 at 9:30 a.m.

Weeks was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property (licence plates) and breach of probation in connection with an incident on April 1 at East Brighton. She was ordered to reside at a residence in Coldstream, follow a curfew, and abstain from drugs or alcohol as part of her release. Weeks has a prior criminal record.

Arrested and released with conditions

Olivia Annette Young, 31, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody on April 25. She was released with conditions and returns to court for plea on May 21 at 9:30 a.m.

Young was charged by Woodstock Police with breach of a release order for an incident on April 24 in Woodstock.

Arrested on walking trail

Douglas Thomas Defazio, 35, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 25 to face new charges laid by Woodstock Police. 

Defazio was arrested on the walking trail in Woodstock on April 23 and charged with unlawful entry at a dwelling house and two counts of breaching a release order. 

The crown withdrew those charges after the accused pleaded guilty to three other charges related to an earlier incident.

Defazio was charged by Woodstock Police with two counts of assault on a female victim, uttering threats, assault with a weapon (chunks of ice), and breach of a peace bond concerning incidents on March 30 and April 1 in Woodstock.  

He pleaded guilty to uttering threats, assault with a weapon, and breach of the peace bond. A sentencing date was set for May 21 at 1:30 p.m. Defazio remains in custody. The crown withdrew the two remaining assault charges.

Remanded to await hearing

Mitchell Sutthery, 38, of Arthurette, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 25 on a charge of breaching his conditional sentence order. He returns to court in custody on May 9 at 1:30 p.m. for a hearing on that charge. 

Sutthery was handed time served and six months of house arrest last November after changing his plea to guilty on multiple charges laid by RCMP, including breaking into a local church. The first three months were to be served under full house arrest, and the remaining three months involved him following a curfew. 

The court heard police found Sutthery in violation of house arrest on Feb. 16 when they checked his residence and discovered he was not home.

Agreed to peace bond

Vincent Ginson, 30, of Hartland, appeared for trial in provincial court on April 25 after pleading not guilty to one charge laid by RCMP. He agreed to sign a 12-month peace bond, but the trial did not proceed.

Ginson was charged with assault concerning an incident on May 3, 2023, in Centreville. The peace bond results in the charges being withdrawn.

Bail hearing adjourned 

Gary Frederick Kilcollins, 48, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 25 for a bail hearing. The matter was adjourned until May 2 at 9:30 a.m. at the request of his defence counsel.

Woodstock Police charged Kilcollins with breaking into a dwelling house, theft of a TV, and breach of probation for an incident between April 8 and April 16 in Woodstock. 

He was also charged with theft from the Woodstock Superstore on March 24 and theft from the Thrift Boutique on April 13. A mischief charge was also laid for an incident on Jan. 2 when a window was broken at another property in town. 

The court heard new charges may be pending related to a break-in at Home Hardware in Woodstock.

In custody awaiting trial

Nicholas Carl Manzer, 26, of Newbridge, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 25 and pleaded not guilty to charges laid by RCMP. His trial date was set for Aug. 15 at 9:30 a.m.

Manzer appeared in court in custody for a bail hearing on April 5 and was remanded to jail. He was arrested on a warrant after he failed to appear in provincial court on March 19. 

RCMP charged him with possession of a firearm (a rifle) while prohibited, possession of a firearm without a licence, possession of a stolen truck, improper storage of a firearm, and being an occupant of a vehicle knowing it carried a firearm for an incident on Nov. 11, 2023, at Wostak (Woodstock First Nation). He appeared in court in custody and was released with conditions but failed to return to court.

Manzer was also charged with two counts of breaching a release order, mischief causing damage to his ankle bracelet on March 4, and resisting arrest on April 3 at Wostak. He remains in custody.

Denied bail and remanded

Ian Stewart Bishop, 41, of Perth-Andover, appeared in provincial court in custody by video for a bail hearing on April 25. He was denied bail and returns to court in custody for plea on May 2 at 9:30 a.m.

RCMP arrested Bishop in connection with two break-ins, one at the local civic centre and another at a dwelling house in Perth-Andover. He was charged with break-and-enter at a dwelling house and theft of tools on March 30 and break-and-enter and theft of tools at the River Valley Civic Centre on April 1. Bishop has a prior criminal record.

In custody awaiting trial

Brandon Jay Smith, 26, of Centreville, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 25 and pleaded not guilty to charges laid by RCMP. His trial date was set for Aug. 14 at 9:30 a.m. He remains in custody.

Smith appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 4 for a bail hearing and was remanded to jail. He was charged with breaking into a dwelling house and theft of firearms on July 3, 2023, in Summerfield. He also faces charges of break, enter and theft at a dwelling house, breaking into a garage, and theft of a trailer related to an incident on March 18 on the Back Greenfield Road.

Trial date set for Johnville man

Brandon Schriver, 22, of Johnville, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 25 and pleaded not guilty to charges laid by RCMP. His trial date was set for May 23 at 1:30 p.m. He remains in custody.

Schriver appeared in court in custody on Feb. 29 for a bail hearing and was remanded to jail. RCMP charged him with possession of prohibited weapons (brass knuckles and three knives), assaulting a police officer with a weapon, flight from police, dangerous driving, driving while prohibited, possession of a stolen vehicle, and breach of probation in connection with an incident on Feb. 22 in Johnville. 

Police arrested him after receiving a report of two suspicious vehicles at a residence in Johnville. Upon arrival, police saw an individual jump into a vehicle, which then rammed the police car before fleeing at a high rate of speed. Police then followed the vehicle until it eventually came to a stop. The driver exited the vehicle but was quickly apprehended by police. No one was injured during the incident.

Busy court schedule for trial dates

Dustin Arthur Hawksley, 28, of Greenfield, appeared in provincial court in custody on April 25 to set new trial dates on charges laid by the RCMP. Due to a busy and demanding court schedule, only one new trial date could be scheduled. 

Hawksley remains in custody. RCMP charged him with breach of a release order by violating electronic monitoring (ankle bracelet), escaping lawful custody, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest in connection with an incident on Dec. 6, 2023, at Greenfield. He pleaded not guilty, and a trial date was set for July 17 at 1:30 p.m.

The charges allege Hawksley removed his ankle bracelet, and when under arrest, he allegedly punched a police officer in the face, kicked police while they were loading him into a vehicle, and tried to make his escape.

Hawksley was also charged by RCMP with break and enter at a dwelling house, two counts of assault on a female victim, and assault with a weapon (a plate) in connection with an incident on July 2, 2023, at Bloomfield. He pleaded not guilty, and a trial date was set for Aug. 28 at 9:30 a.m. 

Woodstock Police also charged him with assaulting a female, assault by choking and breach of an undertaking for another incident on Aug. 5, 2023, in Woodstock. He pleaded not guilty, and his trial date was set for Sept. 16 at 9:30 a.m. 

Hawksley appeared in provincial court in custody for a bail hearing in September and was released with conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle. He was also placed under house arrest at a residence in Greenfield but was brought back into custody in December. On Dec. 20, he appeared in court in custody for a bail hearing and was remanded to jail.

Jacksonville man denied bail, trial dates set

Shayne Everett Cameron, 30, of Jacksonville, appeared in provincial court in custody on April 25 for a bail hearing. He was denied bail and remanded to jail to await trial on a block of charges and sentencing on four others.

Woodstock Police charged him with two counts of assaulting police with a weapon (a knife), robbery, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, possession of a stolen vehicle, theft of mail, uttering threats, assault with a weapon; flight from police, dangerous driving, resisting arrest, and breach of a release order for an incident on Jan. 22. He pleaded not guilty and his trial was set for Aug. 7 at 1:30 p.m. and Aug. 9 at 9:30 a.m.

Woodstock Police laid the charges after locating a man in the passenger seat of a vehicle at a business on Connell Street. The man threatened the driver with a weapon, attempting to encourage the driver to flee. Police gained entry to the vehicle and tried to remove the man when he grabbed a knife and attempted to stab the officers. 

Two officers sustained minor injuries in the incident. The driver exited the vehicle, and the man got into the driver’s seat and fled the scene. The vehicle was located a short time later in Perth-Andover by RCMP. A police dog located the individual, and he was arrested without incident.

Cameron appeared in provincial court in custody on Jan. 23 after being arrested the day before on five warrants. He has been in custody since that time.

He appeared in provincial court in custody on Nov. 8, 2023, for a bail hearing and was released with conditions. He was arrested on a warrant for failing to appear in court on Oct. 31, 2023. He pleaded guilty at his court appearance on April 25, and a sentencing date was set for Aug. 7 at 9:30 a.m. 

He also pleaded guilty to breaching a release order (curfew) in Woodstock on Nov. 16, 2023. His sentencing on this charge will also occur on Aug. 7 at 9:30 a.m. 

The crown withdrew a charge of breach of an undertaking on Sept. 28, 2023. 

Cameron was also charged with uttering threats and assaulting another man on Oct. 28, 2023, at Greenfield. He pleaded not guilty and goes to trial on Aug. 7 at 9:30 a.m.

He was also charged with breaching a no-contact order and resisting police on Nov. 4, 2023, at Perth-Andover. He pleaded guilty to the violation but not guilty to resisting arrest. Those matters will be dealt with in court on July 29 at 1:30 p.m.

Cameron was also charged with assaulting a female victim, assault with a weapon (a machete) and uttering threats for incidents between Sept. 8 and Sept. 13, 2023, in Woodstock. He pleaded not guilty, and the trial will be held on Aug. 7 at 9:30 a.m. 

He also pleaded not guilty to possessing a stolen vehicle on April 11, 2023, in Woodstock, and a trial date was set for July 4 at 9:30 a.m.

He also pleaded not guilty to two other charges laid by RCMP. His trial date was set for July 4 at 9:30 a.m. Cameron was charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace and possession of a firearm while prohibited concerning an incident on Jan. 24, 2023, at Juniper. 

Charges withdrawn 

Tyson Tony Sappier, 26, of Neqotkuk, appeared for trial in provincial court on April 25 after pleading not guilty to charges laid by Woodstock Police and RCMP. The crown withdrew the charges, and the prosecution did not proceed.

Sappier appeared in custody by video on May 12 for a bail hearing and was released with conditions. On June 15, 2021, in Woodstock, Woodstock Police charged him with theft from the Atlantic Superstore and breach of probation. RCMP also charged him with breach of probation for failing to report to a probation officer on July 14, 2021, at Neqotkuk. 

Trial set on drug trafficking charges

Carolann Paul, 26, of Neqotkuk, appeared in provincial court on April 19 for monitoring about her trial on drug trafficking charges. Her trial will proceed on Oct. 3-4 at 9:30 a.m.

Paul appeared in provincial court on Sept. 15 for a bail hearing and was released with conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to her ankle. She was arrested on a warrant for failing to attend her trial. 

She was charged by RCMP with possession of cocaine and possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, stemming from a police bust on Sept. 23, 2020, at Neqotkuk. She pleaded not guilty.

Paul was also charged with possession of methamphetamine for another incident on July 31, 2020, at Neqotkuk. She pleaded not guilty, and her trial date for that charge was set for Oct. 9 at 9:30 a.m.

Charges withdrawn for Plaster Rock man

Andrew Joseph St. Peter, 31, of Plaster Rock, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 24. Two charges laid in Woodstock were withdrawn, but he remains in custody on a breach charge transferred to Fredericton.

St. Peter pleaded guilty to willful neglect of an animal and failing to provide medical attention to a dog concerning incidents on Jan. 1-2, 2023, in Plaster Rock. The charges were laid under the SPCA Act. 

He later withdrew his guilty plea, and the matter was adjourned to set a trial date. He told the court he was in jail when the alleged incident occurred and wanted to revoke his guilty plea. On April 25, the crown withdrew the SPCA charge.

He pleaded guilty to a separate charge of breach of a release order by failing to attend court in Woodstock on Aug. 22, 2023. That charge was transferred to Fredericton, where he was facing additional charges.

St. Peter appeared in provincial court in custody last July on a weapons charge related to an incident in the village on July 22, 2023. RCMP charged him with possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace (an axe handle). He was arrested after police received reports of a suspect carrying a weapon in the village. 

He pleaded not guilty, and a trial date was set for April 24 when the crown withdrew the charge.

Sentencing set for Woodstock woman

Brittany Priscilla King, 27, of Upper Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody on April 24 to answer a series of charges. 

King was charged by Woodstock Police with breach of a release order for an incident on Dec. 15, 2023, in Woodstock. She appeared in court in custody for a bail hearing on Dec. 21, 2023, and was remanded to jail. On April 24, she was found not guilty after trial on the breach charge.

King pleaded guilty to possession of stolen property, two counts of assaulting a police officer, and resisting arrest for an incident on Nov. 7, 2022, in Woodstock. The crown withdrew a mischief charge. Her sentencing date was set for May 14 at 1:30 p.m.

King was also charged with three counts of assault, theft and breaking into a dwelling house for an incident on Nov. 5, 2023, in Woodstock. She pleaded not guilty, and her trial date was set for May 7 at 1:30 p.m. 

Woodstock Police also charged her with possession of a stolen vehicle, dangerous driving, committing mischief causing property damage and assault using a vehicle following an incident on Sept. 17, 2023, in Woodstock; possession of a stolen vehicle on Nov. 22, 2022, and failing to attend court on Feb. 21, 2023. 

She appeared in provincial court in custody in November for a bail hearing. She was released with conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to her ankle, but returned to custody.
