Leg injury sustained on Oct. 7 was immediately referred to organization
The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is looking into an incident involving a Woodstock Police Officer and a male teenager.
In a news release dated Friday, Oct. 16, SiRT announced it was investigating a serious injury that was sustained by a male youth in Woodstock.
The statement noted that during the evening of Oct. 7, an off-duty police officer with the Woodstock Police Force (WPF) identified a male youth at a local store who was arrestable for previous offences. The off-duty officer contacted WPF, who then responded to the location.
Officers located the youth. The youth fled on foot and was brought to the ground by a WPF officer during the arrest. The youth was taken to hospital for assessment and diagnosed with a serious leg injury.
SiRT received a referral from WPF on Oct. 7 and started its investigation immediately.
SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest that may have arisen from the actions of a police officer, on or off duty, in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick.
