Members of the Woodstock Police Force, while assisting with and conducting traffic control during the Old Home Week parade on Sunday, observed a black Jeep Grand Cherokee ignore police direction and travel dangerously into the direction of the approaching parade floats and participants. As a result, the driver and vehicle presented a serious public safety threat that risked the well-being of hundreds of citizens taking part in the parade. Due to the danger posed, police responded to safely block and secure the suspect vehicle and take the adult male driver into custody. No injuries were reported and charges are expected.
The Woodstock Police Force is also investigating an unrelated incident involving a lone occupant of a “dirt” bike that travelled dangerously fast and into the Old Home Week parade route area on Sunday. The driver narrowly missed pedestrians and ignored police direction not to enter the area and cease operation of the bike. Our investigation into this matter is ongoing.
The Woodstock Police takes threats to the safety and well-being of our citizens seriously and will pursue any and all associated charges in these occurrences. Anyone with information, related to these public safety matters, is encouraged to contact the Woodstock Police Force at (506) 325-4601, email wpfadmin@nbpolice.ca or NB Crime Stoppers at www.crimenb.ca, 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).
Thank you.
