Feb. 10 meetings discuss community social issues
Councillor Chala Watson informed council that the Town of Woodstock will host two information sessions focused on “open, respectful, and informed discussion” about the growing issue of homelessness in western New Brunswick.
The hope is that these discussions will help residents “better understand the current realities of homelessness in our region.” Community members from all Western New Brunswick communities are invited to attend.
The first session, focused on understanding homelessness in Western New Brunswick, will be held on Feb. 25, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the McCain Community Theatre in Woodstock High School (WHS).
A second session focused on solutions, supports, and pathways forward will be held in March, with the date to be confirmed at the first meeting.
Light refreshments will be served in the WHS lobby starting at 5:40 pm. Information on the meetings can also be found at the District of Carleton North website.
211 NB: Economic and Social Inclusion Corporation of New Brunswick
Deputy Mayor Karen Hargrove read a letter from NB Together discussing the “Overcoming Poverty Together” initiative and the 211 NB service.
“211 NB is a valuable tool…where people can quickly receive the help they need,” she explained.
Those needs can include housing, employment, food, mental health, or community programs.
The service is free, confidential, available 24/7 in multiple languages, and designed to help people navigate the social, community, and government services available.

Alcohol usage study
Councillor Angel Connor reported to council that a study is being completed by DataNB and the University of New Brunswick, aimed at “understanding how people in New Brunswick think about alcohol, health risks, and related policies.”
They are seeking input from residents aged 19 or older. More information on the survey can be found at https://carletonnorth.com/alcohol-study-data-nb-university-of-new-brunswick/
Carleton North High School Student Council
Carleton North High School student council members Orrin Stockford, Bella London, and Angelina White presented an overview of the school’s committees and activities to the District of Carleton North Council.
Of particular note, they shared that the high school will be hosting its first winter formal dance since the COVID-19 pandemic. They will also be hosting a “Mr. Carleton” pageant in May, which will serve as a fundraiser for the school.
The youth council members asked the council whether they would consider advertising upcoming school events to help raise greater awareness and funds.
