Man refused to pull over for police before deserting vehicle and fleeing on foot

Members of the Woodstock Police Force and the Western Valley Region RCMP are currently combing the Grafton hills area searching for a man who fled an attempted police stop in Woodstock.

In a press release issued shortly after 3 p.m. Monday, July 15, the Woodstock Police Force said the incident began with WPF members attempting to initiate a traffic stop.

“The driver refused to pull over and fled from the police at a high rate of speed,” the police explained in the statement. “Officers were able to identify the 35-year-old driver, who later abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.”

The Woodstock Police Force, in conjunction with the RCMP, began searching the Birchwood Drive area of Grafton Hill, utilizing the RCMP K-9 unit and drones.

The statement confirmed officers remained on the scene when it was issued.

“There is no risk to the public; however, police are requesting that members of the public stay out of the area while police operations are underway.”

Police asked anyone with information about this or any other crime to contact the Woodstock Police Force at 506-325-4601, Crime Stoppers at 1-866-222-TIPS, or Crime Stoppers online at www.crimenb.ca.
