Organization gives young people opportunity to learn about responsibility and healthy competition
4-H Achievement Day is upon us!
On Saturday, August 3, at 8 a.m., youth involved with the Countryside 4-H and River Valley 4-H groups will proudly display their hard work in the Exhibition Building in Woodstock.
Since May, people involved with 4-H have been learning to raise and train their chosen calves or lambs and groom them before the big day to ensure they are show-ready.
Nick Graham is the organizer for the 4-H Achievement Day Show. Graham has been teaching the kids how to raise their baby animals and says it “puts a smile” on his face to see how proud they are on show day.
Although 4-H Achievement Day is a competition, many participate just for the experience.
“Some kids do it for fun, and others do it to compete, and when they get to the top, they feel like they’ve achieved a goal,” said Graham.
The 4-H Achievement Day Show is an excellent way for youth to learn “healthy competition” and earn experience in raising an animal.
