Students gearing up for a very green rendition of the popular production
It’s that time of year again. Hartland Community School (HCS) is presenting its annual musical performance. The HCS drama club will present ‘Shrek the Musical’ from Nov. 27 to 29, with each performance starting at 7 p.m.
Caroline Fletcher-Allison, one of the directors and an Intensive French teacher at HCS, says the cast has been rehearsing four times a week since the auditions back in September.
“We have a really dedicated cast of about 40 students, and it’s been going really well,” said Fletcher-Allison.
The idea to do Shrek came from the students. Fletcher-Allison says they had been begging to do Shrek for the longest time, and she and the rest of the directors’ team decided to give it a go.
“We sat down as a directing team and thought it would really work for our kids. They seemed really excited and enthused by it,” said Fletcher-Allsion.
“And then that was obviously evident when we had a really large turnout for auditions and some really enthusiastic kids.”
This year’s leads are 12th Graders William Shaw as Shrek and Jesse Grass as Lord Farquaad, 11th Grader Layla Walton as Fiona in Act 1, and 9th Graders Camden Lee as Donkey and Sadie Mack as Fiona in Act 2.
Fletcher-Allison is excited for the community to see how hard the whole cast and crew have worked, and to see it all come together.
“I’m most excited for the audience to see the musical, a movie musical kind of come to life. I think it’s a really well-known fun movie, and it’s a very fun musical,” said Fletcher-Allison.
Tickets are $10 and are available at Hartland Valu Foods or at HCS. During the show’s intermissions, a canteen will be available, with all proceeds benefiting the school’s drama program.
