Town program funds training at Atlantic Police Academy, offering cadets pay, support, and a job on graduation
The Woodstock Police Force Sponsorship Program gives candidates with no policing experience or training the chance to go to the Atlantic Police Science Cadet program in Summerside, P.E.I.
“The cadet sponsorship program is an initiative designed to attract and develop the next generation in policing for Woodstock and the surrounding area who are interested in a career in policing and public service,” said Fallon Lappage, Town of Woodstock Human Resource Coordinator.
Cadets will receive a fourth-class salary while at the academy.
Last year the program received around 56 applicants, with some rolling over to this year’s program, and another 20 from July’s intake, which started Monday, July 27.
As of right now, Lappage said there are two successful candidates at the academy from the sponsorship program.
“During the training, the cadets represent the Woodstock Police Force and our community, and we offer them a full-time job upon successful completion,” said Lappage.
There are currently four constable positions that need to be filled.
