Contract unifies 11 units and boosts benefits for the New Brunswick Union
On Monday, Aug. 31, the provincial government and the New Brunswick Union announced the first “master agreement.”
The agreement combines 11 bargaining units.
“There’s no doubt that this is an exciting milestone,” said Finance and Treasury Board Minister René Legacy.
“Not only has this approach streamlined negotiations, but it has also standardized many working conditions and benefits. Both sides worked hard to reach this historic deal, and I want to thank them all for working together to make it happen.”
The agreement covers over 3,500 employees across classifications like administrative support, enforcement officers, highway supervisors, laboratory technologists, engineering and field classifications, forest rangers, conservation officers, inspectors, and instructors.
“This signing marks a historic first for the New Brunswick Union,” said Susie Proulx-Daigle, the union president.
“This is the first time we bargained all these groups together. It was a big undertaking, and I’m proud of our team and all their hard work.”
The government says the agreement includes improvements such as recognition and retention premiums and better access to vacation days. A general economic increase is also included, applied back to April 1, 2024.
