219 days or time served
Ryan James Smith, 38, of Woodstock, was sentenced to 219 days in jail or time served when he appeared in provincial court in custody on Sept. 8. He pleaded guilty to 10 charges laid by Woodstock Police.
Judge Rose Campbell also placed Smith on 12 months of probation. He was ordered to seek counselling for drug addiction and employment counselling. Smith told the court he had a job lined up with a logging company and wanted to be released to return to work and take care of his ailing mother. He had a lengthy prior criminal record.
Smith was denied bail in April. He pleaded guilty to two counts of uttering threats, five counts of breaching his probation, theft, possession of a stolen credit card, and obstructing police for a series of incidents on Oct. 20, 2025, Jan. 7, Jan. 9, April 14 and April 16, 2026, in Woodstock. Two other charges were withdrawn by the Crown.
The court heard details of two domestic disputes at an apartment on Union Street and Prince William Street, theft of a key from the Woodstock Police Station, possession of a stolen credit card and wallet taken from a vehicle on Park Street, and an attempt to evade police by running through a residence on Water Street South.
Smith apologized to the court for his actions. Defence Counsel Lindsay Paul said her client had received treatment for meth addiction while incarcerated and he was willing to continue treatment after his release. He was already registered with the federal DNA database and was previously prohibited from the use of firearms.
Arrested and released
Kayla Dawn Tibbits, 33, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody via teleconference after being arrested by Woodstock Police on three warrants for failing to appear in court. She was charged with failing to appear for her trial on Aug. 14 and was released on conditions. She returns to court for plea on Sept. 22 at 9:30 a.m.
Tibbits pleaded not guilty to breach of probation, theft, debit card fraud, and possession of stolen property in connection with three incidents in Woodstock between Nov. 20, 2024, and Dec. 6, 2024. Her new trial date was set for Feb. 19, 2027, at 9:30 a.m.
Charged with driving offences
Devon Melvin Grant, 26, of Temperance Vale, will appear in provincial court on Sept. 22 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on four charges laid by Woodstock Police.
Grant was charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, and flight from police concerning an incident on Feb. 22 in Woodstock. He was scheduled to enter a plea on Sept. 8 when the matter was adjourned to the new date.
Warrant on file
Samuel Lee, 30, of Summerfield, was scheduled to appear in provincial court on Sept. 8 for plea on an assault charge laid by the RCMP. He failed to appear, and a warrant was held on file.
Lee was charged with assault with a weapon (a knife) involving a female victim in connection with an incident on June 27 in Summerfield.
Alleged assault in Woodstock
Steven Derek Trecartin, 47, of East Brighton, will appear in provincial court on Sept. 9 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on four charges laid by Woodstock Police.
Trecartin appeared in provincial court in custody on July 23 after being arrested for an alleged assault in Woodstock. He was charged with assault by choking, two counts of uttering threats and committing mischief in connection with an incident in Woodstock. He was released from custody with conditions.
Guilty of assault
Sherra Gregg, 29, of Anderson Road, Victoria County, will appear for sentencing in provincial court on Sept. 9 at 1:30 p.m. after changing her plea to guilty on an assault charge laid by the RCMP.
Gregg was charged with assaulting another woman and unlawful entry at a dwelling house on July 16, 2024, at Quaker Brook. The Crown withdrew the unlawful entry charge.
Gregg also has a trial set for Sept. 9 at 1:30 p.m., after pleading not guilty to other charges of breaching an undertaking on March 31, 2025, in Perth-Andover, and criminal harassment by repeated communication between March 8 and March 25, 2025, in Plaster Rock.
Charged with impaired
Reece Clowater, 36, of Woodstock, will appear in provincial court on Sept. 29 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on an impaired driving charge laid by Woodstock Police.
Clowater was charged in connection with an incident in Woodstock on May 1. He made his first court appearance on Sept. 1 when the matter was adjourned to the new date.
Returning for plea
Nicholas Hallett, 40, of Hartford, will appear in provincial court on Sept. 29 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on a charge laid by the RCMP.
Hallett was charged with breaching a no-contact order on Aug. 17 in Somerville. He made his first court appearance on Sept. 1, when the matter was adjourned to the new date.
Multiple trial dates
Mason Darren Bustard, 19, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Sept. 8 and pleaded not guilty to a raft of charges. The court set aside eight days for five separate trials in January. A pre-trial conference was also set for Nov. 6 at 9:30 a.m.
Bustard was arrested and held in custody following an alleged escape from a rehab facility in Moncton. He was denied bail on Aug. 13.
Woodstock Police charged Bustard with being at large on a release order, breach of a no-contact order, possession of a weapon (a butcher knife) for the purpose of committing an offence, unlawful entry at a dwelling house, and threatening a person with a knife, following an incident on Aug. 10 in Woodstock.
Further charges against Bustard include theft of tools, possession of stolen tools, prowling at night on Cambridge Street, five counts of attempting to steal from a vehicle, two counts of mischief causing property damage to the key and ignition of two vehicles, five counts of theft, and possession of stolen property. All the alleged incidents took place on April 7-8 in Woodstock.
Bustard was also charged with possession of stolen property, possession of break-in tools and breach of probation in connection with a rash of vehicle break-ins on April 7-8 in the Elizabeth Street, Creighton Street and Rose Court areas. He was also charged with theft of a motor vehicle from the Legacy Ford dealership in Woodstock on April 30.
Bustard was also charged by the RCMP with flight from police and mischief causing property damage to a lawn at Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation); breach of probation, possession of a stolen truck, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace (a knife), and breaching a release order in Woodstock; two counts of breaching his release order and mischief causing property damage to his ankle bracelet in Bloomfield; and flight from police and theft of fuel in Florenceville-Bristol. All the incidents are alleged to have occurred on April 30.
Guilty of drug trafficking
Vinal Todd Hatto, 40, of Pokiok, will appear in provincial court for sentencing on Nov. 26 at 9:30 a.m. after changing his plea to guilty on seven drug trafficking charges laid by Woodstock Police.
Hatto pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine, methamphetamine, ecstasy, ketamine, fentanyl, oxycontin, hydromorphone, and methylphenidate, all for the purpose of trafficking, on May 28, 2025, in Lower Woodstock.
The court heard that police spotted Hatto driving a motorcycle on Route 165 near Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation). He had a backpack and refused to stop for police, heading down a trail on Beardsley Road, where the motorcycle tipped over. He fled on foot with the backpack and was captured by police in a nearby field. The backpack contained a quantity of various drugs, $583 in cash, cell phones and drug paraphernalia.
Hatto appeared in provincial court on Sept. 8 and pleaded not guilty to two other charges related to his required attendance at a Moncton rehab facility. He was charged with two counts of breaching his probation for incidents in Woodstock and Moncton between Sept. 6 and 11, 2025, and in Moncton between Sept. 4, 2025, and June 8, 2026. His trial was set for Nov. 26 at 1:30 p.m.
Hatto was charged by Woodstock Police with arson, dangerous driving, two counts of breaching a release order and driving while prohibited concerning an incident on Sept. 5, 2025, in Woodstock. He pleaded not guilty, and his trial was set for Nov. 30 at 9:30 a.m.
He is also facing other charges of obstructing Woodstock Police and possession of stolen inspection stickers in connection with an incident on May 16, 2025. He pleaded not guilty, and a trial date was set for Nov. 25 at 9:30 a.m.
Trial on three charges
Kyle Glen Anderson, 41, of Hartland, appeared in provincial court on Sept. 8 and pleaded not guilty to three charges laid by the RCMP. His trial date was set for Aug. 9, 2027, at 9:30 a.m.
Anderson was charged with breach of probation, assault on a male victim, and mischief causing property damage to a porch, following an incident on April 1, 2026, at Ashland.
Green Road incident
Krystal Davenport, 31, of Green Road, will appear in provincial court on Sept. 22 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on an assault charge laid by the RCMP.
Davenport was charged with assault with a weapon (a board) following an incident on April 11 on Green Road. She appeared in provincial court on Sept. 8 when the matter was adjourned to allow her lawyer more time to receive disclosure.
Facing sex charges
Lyle Tibbets, 53, of Florenceville-Bristol, will appear in provincial court on Sept. 29 at 9:30 a.m. for a plea on sex charges laid by the RCMP.
Tibbets was charged with touching a minor for a sexual purpose and invitation to sexual touching between June 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024, at Mount Pleasant. He was also charged with sexual assault and touching a minor for a sexual purpose between June 30, 2024, and Nov. 7, 2025, at Mount Pleasant. He was scheduled for plea on Sept. 8 when the matter was adjourned. The court heard that the Crown was seeking a resolution.
Agreed to peace bond
Kyler Tofflemire, 30, of Bath, appeared in provincial court on Sept. 8 for plea on two charges laid by the RCMP.
Tofflemire was charged with unlawful entry at a dwelling house between July 26 and 27 in Beechwood, and assault on July 6 at Beechwood. He agreed to sign a 12-month peace bond, which will result in the charges being withdrawn.
Sentencing in Fredericton
Corey Andrew Lane, 40, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Sept. 8 for a monitoring hearing on charges laid by Woodstock Police.
Lane was charged with possession of a firearm while prohibited from having it, unauthorized possession of a firearm, break and enter, and failing to appear in court. He waived his bail until later.
The court heard that he was also in custody in Fredericton on other charges. The court transferred the Woodstock charges, and Lane pleaded guilty to all counts. His sentencing in Fredericton will be held on Nov. 3 at 9:30 a.m.
