Oct 21 special meeting centres on culvert work and investing in the community
Lakeland Ridges Council discussed a damaged section of White Birch Lane in Meductic that requires further investigation, including potential work around a rock formation and culvert.
A temporary fix could cost about $3,000, while an engineering assessment would help determine the best long-term solution.
The discussion brought up concerns about timing as winter approaches, with councillors considering whether temporary work could prevent further problems before a permanent repair is completed.
Community investment
The mayor and council also reviewed a proposed community investment policy intended to establish clearer requirements for organizations requesting funding from the municipality.
The policy would establish three funding streams, with different application requirements depending on the size and purpose of the request. Applications for $500 or less could be submitted at least two weeks before an event, while larger requests would require more notice.
“The goal is to ensure transparency, having applicants clearly explain what they need and how the people of Lakeland Ridges money would be spent,” said Mayor Greg Grant.
Council also debated changes to its remuneration bylaw, including mileage reimbursement at the provincial rate and whether to review annual salary increases during budget deliberations instead.
Further budget work is expected in the coming weeks, with a committee of the whole meeting scheduled for Nov. 4 at 7 p.m.
