Centreville Fire Department renovation cancelled
A significant project for the Centreville Fire Department was planned, which included upgrades and an expansion. The District of Carleton North issued a public tender for the project on July 23.
A successful bidder was identified; however, following a revised submission, the new lowest bid came in significantly over budget. As such, the project has been cancelled.
Dangerous and Unsightly Premises
Council discussed two properties that violate the Unsightly Premises and Dangerous Buildings and Structures By-Law.
The properties are located at 869 Route 565 and 8162 Route 107. In both cases, the District received complaints about the property, which was inspected and determined to violate the by-law.
Property owners were sent a First Notice of Violation, further notifications, and a registered Notice to Comply. In both circumstances, the owners have failed to respond or comply.
Since the District of Carleton North has taken all steps necessary with regard to notice and communication, the decision was made to authorize the administration to undertake the necessary actions, up to and including demolition, to bring these properties into by-law compliance as efficiently and economically as possible.
Age-Friendly Community Advisory Committee update
Councillor Ryan Dickinson advised the council that the committee will be applying for a donation of $2,500 from Age-Friendly New Brunswick.
In addition, they will be distributing a survey to the community to identify its needs. More information on the New Brunswick Age-Friendly Community Recognition Program can be found here:

Council thanks local firefighters
Councillor Laurel Bradstreet noted that many local firefighters from the Bath, Glassville, Juniper, Centreville, and Lakeville fire departments have been volunteering to assist with the forest fires in Miramichi.
He offered his thanks to the firefighters who had been offering assistance, which was met with a round of applause from the council. Bradstreet also acknowledged the District of Carleton North for its support of the firefighters travelling to assist elsewhere.
