Enjoy a summer of discovery with the Meduxnekeag River Association
Throughout July, the Meduxnekeag River Association (MRA) will be offering several engaging workshops on the Meduxnekeag Valley Nature Preserve, designed for a variety of age groups.
Registration is required for all events, as space is limited. The organization asks that you only register if you are certain you can attend. They like to ensure spots remain available for those able to participate.
Their summer programming is made possible by a grant from the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation.
“Their generous funding makes these workshops possible,” explained MRA Outreach and Marketing Coordinator Holly Melanson.

Water Warriors: Protecting Our Planet is a workshop that takes place on Tuesday, July 8, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for children aged 10-13. This is a fun and interactive workshop designed to educate participants about the water cycle and its impact on water pollution.
“Through various hands-on activities, participants will discover just how essential clean water is to the health of our environment,” explained Melanson.
Interested in learning more about birds? Register your children for “Birding for Kids,” a fun and interactive workshop where they can learn more about the local wildlife. “Join us for a day of learning bird calls, discovering fun bird facts, and participating in exciting bird-themed games and activities. Let your children spread their wings as they explore and learn about the fascinating feathered creatures that call our forests home.” This workshop will take place on Monday, July 14, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The MRA will also be hosting Enviro-Kids! on Friday, July 18, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event helps children learn more about the environment and the impact of humans on Mother Earth. They aim to equip children with the knowledge, skills, and foundation to help shape a sustainable future. Again, pre-registration is required for this workshop. To register, please email holly@meduxnekeag.org.

To get the whole family involved, the MRA will be hosting a Parent-Child Scavenger Hunt. Parents and children are invited to explore the Yellow Trail on Friday, July 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. as they search for items on the association’s scavenger hunt list.
For those planning to use the trails this summer, the MRA offers advice for hikers. They ask that people work together to maintain and preserve this area. Pack it in, pack it out, and leave the area as you found it. Dogs are welcome on the preserve, but they must be leashed to protect wildlife and fellow trail users. They ask you to stay on the trail, which helps you preserve sensitive habitats and keeps you safe. Leave what you find – everything in the preserve plays a vital role in the ecosystem. It is essential to respect wildlife and observe it from a safe distance.
