Fake $100 bill passed in Florenceville-Bristol: RCMP

by | Feb 28, 2026

The Western Valley RCMP is warning the public and business owners of reports of counterfeit Canadian bills circulating in Florenceville-Bristol.

“On Feb. 26, a business in Florenceville reported an employee inadvertently accepted a counterfeit $100 bill,” a news release said. “Upon examination, the bill closely resembled genuine Canadian currency in both appearance and texture.”

“The primary indicator of its illegitimacy was the faint wording “Prop Money” printed on the silver security section but is convincing enough that it could easily be passed as real currency if the recipient is not paying close attention.”

The new release said counterfeiters often rely on quick transactions and distracted moments.

“Taking just a second to feel the raised ink or glance at the security window can make all the difference. If something seems off, trust that instinct. Genuine Canadian bills have crisp metallic portraits, don’t peel, and their serial numbers are properly spaced and consistent.”

The RCMP warns that anyone who circulates counterfeit currency may face arrest and prosecution under the Criminal Code of Canada. Business owners who receive a suspicious bill and the suspect is still at the scene should call 911.

“Anyone who encounters a suspicious bill, or has information that might help a current investigation, is encouraged to contact the Western Valley RCMP at 506-325-3000. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), by downloading the secure P3 Mobile App, or by Secure Web Tips at https://crimenb.ca/,” the release said.
