Firefighters’ quick action limits damage to one bedroom
The Woodstock Fire Department’s quick response limited the fire damage to a single bedroom at an Elm Street residence on Sunday afternoon, April 14.
Woodstock Fire Chief Harold McLellan said the department responded to the call at 1:42 p.m. Sunday. With Elm Street only a few blocks from the fire hall, firefighters arrived quickly.
He said people were in the house when the fire started, but no one was injured.
McLellan said the building’s owner lives in a part of the house and rents out bedrooms. He said the fire started in a second-floor bedroom, but firefighters controlled it before it spread to other rooms.
He explained that the second floor had only bedrooms.
“Everyone had their bedroom doors closed which is a good thing,” McLellan said. “It stayed in one bedroom.”
He said the room sustained smoke and “a little water damage.”
McLellan said he sent photos to the Fire Marshal’s Office, which will investigate the cause of the fire. He added that it’s not considered suspicious.
The chief said 20 volunteer department members responded to the Sunday afternoon fire call. He said firefighters remained on the scene for approximately 2 hours.
