Potato barrel Christmas tree lit at annual event

The “French Fry Capital of the World” gathered on Friday, Nov. 28, to celebrate the start of the holiday season with the lighting of their iconic potato barrel Christmas tree.

District of Carleton North Mayor Andrew Harvey welcomed the guests by wishing them a “Merry Christmas and all the best” during this holiday season. Pastor Mike Palmer offered a seasonal blessing.

Cookies and hot chocolate were served by youth from the True North Baptist Church youth group, and donations were accepted for the We’ve Got Your Back! Program.

Sparrow Houghton and Iris Lloyd led the crowd in Christmas carols while waiting for Santa to make his appearance.

Due to the lack of snow, Santa was graciously escorted to the celebration by the Florenceville-Bristol Fire Department.
