Hunter Brothers’ corn maze honours 40 years of Blue Rodeo

Maze allows people to get ‘Lost Together’ in Florenceville-Bristol

In February, Chip Hunter and his wife, Shelley, watched the CBC broadcast “Lost Together”, a documentary of Blue Rodeo’s 40-year journey. It gave them an idea.

“We thought that our 2025 corn maze should pay tribute to this iconic band,” recounted Chip.

Canada Post honoured the band with a commemorative stamp in April, featuring the current lineup. Blue Rodeo soon after announced a Canadian tour, marking their incredible 40 years of music, including three shows in the Maritimes.

“In early May, we reached out to the Blue Rodeo’s management to get their permission. They were thrilled with this idea and shared the band’s 40th anniversary logo and headshots of Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor”, continued Chip.

“My brother, Tom, and I both got married in the early 1990s. Blue Rodeo’s music has been the soundtrack of our lives,” Chip noted.

Designing this year’s corn maze wasn’t Tom and Chip Hunter’s first ‘rodeo.’ Since 2001, they have been creating incredible designs that amaze and delight generations of guests at their farm in Florenceville-Bristol.

When deciding the theme of their annual maze, the Hunter Brothers adhere to three criteria: an anniversary or celebration, a Canadian connection, and a great image that will resonate with people.

“Our graphic designer does a terrific job. Last year, Gardiner MacDougall’s image was perfect, especially his moustache. We have no doubt that the images of Jim and Greg will turn out”, explained Tom Hunter. “After making the paths, I can check the results with the help of my drone. It’s easy to fine-tune the image.”

This year, due to the extreme drought the Maritimes have experienced, Hunter Brothers even had to water the corn maze.

“We’re thrilled with the final image”, Tom said. “Although the maze was planted a little later than usual, it’s tall, green, and very healthy,” he continued.

As for Blue Rodeo, they were tickled with the honour. In a release, they noted this was a first for the band.

“We’ve played a lot of venues in our 40 years, but never imagined we’d end up in a corn maze,” they wrote. “We’re truly honoured, and we can’t wait to see folks wandering around trying not to get lost together.”

This is Hunter Brothers’ 25th annual corn maze. Many of their past corn mazes have featured many extraordinary Canadians: Gordon Lightfoot and Stan Rogers (2023), Terry Fox (2015), Secretariat and jockey Ron Turcotte (2013), and Patrick Roy (2003). They have also celebrated many Canadian sports teams: the UNB REDS (2024), Soccer Canada (2022), Toronto Maple Leafs (2017), Toronto Raptors (2019), Toronto Blue Jays (2016), and Montreal Canadiens (2009).

“This year, we have been able to do something a little special with the multiple-choice questions that are hidden throughout the maze,” shared Chip’s wife, Shelley. “For questions featuring songs or videos, a QR code links maze goers to YouTube videos of those songs. Imagine Blue Rodeo music in the maze!”

Chip and Shelley already have tickets for the Blue Rodeo show in Moncton on Nov. 7.
