Montréal’s Marie‑Philip Poulin is featured in farm’s 26th annual design celebrating women’s hockey
Chip and Shelley Hunter’s family are avid hockey fans, whether it’s following the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League’s (QMJHL) Moncton Wildcats or anxiously watching the “Cardiac Kids” pull off another win for the Canadiens. With the debut of the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) and Marie-Philip Poulin, “Captain Clutch,” leading the Montréal team, it was easy for them to become Victoire fans too.
The PWHL has taken root. Last year, the Victoire broke the world record for attendance at a women’s hockey game when the Bell Centre sold out in minutes; 21,105 fans filled the arena to watch Montréal play Toronto.
When deciding the theme of their annual corn maze, Hunter Brothers of Florenceville-Bristol, New Brunswick, adhere to three criteria: an anniversary or celebration, a Canadian connection, and a great image that will resonate with people.
“Celebrating the Victoire’s championship as well as paying homage to women’s hockey was an easy choice. In this year’s maze design, it was obvious that we had to feature Marie-Philip Poulin. Not only does she wear the “C” for Montréal, but she has been Team Canada’s captain, both in IIHF and Olympic tournaments, since 2015,” said Chip.
“Our graphic designer used the PWHL logo and the font from their hockey jersey numbers for ‘Champions 2026’. We think the Victoire’s logo was destined to be part of a maze.”
This is Hunter Brothers’ 26th annual corn maze. Many of their past corn mazes have featured sports teams and athletes, including Patrick Roy in 2003, the Montréal Canadiens in 2009, Secretariat in 2013, Terry Fox in 2015, the Toronto Blue Jays in 2016, the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2017, the Toronto Raptors in 2019, Team Canada’s soccer teams in 2022, and the UNB REDS in 2024.
“We’re thrilled with the final image,” Tom Hunter explained.
“This year, we had to battle with the crows as they enjoyed the corn seed. After some reseeding and August’s rain, we could literally watch the corn grow.”
There are ten bilingual multiple-choice questions hidden throughout the maze pathways, so fans may need to brush up on PWHL and Montréal Victoire trivia.
