Group gathers for a weekend to remember
By Dan Brown, NHS Class of 1975
During the New Brunswick Day long weekend, the 1975 graduates of Nackawic High School held their 50th Class Reunion. A record number of graduates attended, coming from all over the Maritimes and the states of Georgia and Virginia.
The events began on Friday, Aug. 1, with a Meet and Greet, held at the Nackawic Golf Club. The noise level alone was a good indicator that everyone was happy to be together once again.
Saturday, Aug. 2, began with a tour of the high school, followed by a tree-planting ceremony. Members of the organizing committee planted a red oak. The afternoon was spent reminiscing and sharing photos around the “Big Axe.”
The evening started with a roast beef dinner, served at the Nackawic Lions’ Centre, followed by a dance with music supplied by John and Jean Maunder. The evening included a 1975 retrospective provided by fellow graduate, Michael Staples, a retired employee of Brunswick News. A moment of remembrance was observed to commemorate 13 graduates who have since passed away. Lots of fun was had around the photo booth, and prizes were awarded through random draws. Thanks to Expedia Cruises of Fredericton, Keswick Compounding Pharmacy, Terra Consultants Ltd., and Chris and Jane Diduch for providing prizes.
