Blaze at an encampment claimed the lives of a 35-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman
The Saint John Police Force identified a man and a woman in their 30s as the victims of a tent fire on March 25 in the city.
In a release issued on April 12, the force identified the victims as 35-year-old Jonathan Calhoun and 33-year-old Raeanne Tyler. Both have ties to the Upper St. John River Valley region.
The release explained that the Saint John Police, in cooperation with the Saint John Fire Department and Coroner’s Office, continue to investigate the circumstances leading to the deaths.
On March 25, at 3:41 p.m., emergency crews responded to a tent fire at an encampment near the 100 block of Paradise Row.
“After the fire was extinguished, two individuals were located deceased,” Saint John Police wrote in a release at the time.
In its release, the police extended condolences to the friends and families of Calhoun and Tyler.
The March 25 fire was the second fatal blaze in the same area of the city. in 2024
Evan McCarthur, 44, died in a fire at a nearby encampment on the same street in January.
