Adam McCormick inks deal with Chicago Blackhawk affiliate Rockford Ice Dogs

After stellar careers in major junior and Canadian university hockey, 24-year-old hockey star Adam McCormick of Woodstock is stepping into the world of pro hockey.

Coming off his remarkable season as a defensive pillar with the undefeated Canadian USports University Cup champions University of New Brunswick, McCormick inked his first pro contract with the AHL’s Rockford Ice Dogs.

The Ice Dogs, the AHL affiliate of the Chicago Black Hawks, recently announced the signing of McCormick, along with two other defensemen and a forward.

With eight goals and 33 assists for 41 points in 24 games this past season, McCormick helped UNB to an unprecedented perfect season to earn the team its second straight national championship.

The point total ranked McCormick second among defencemen and fourth overall for the powerhouse university squad. His on-ice prowess earned him a spot on the Atlantic University Sport Second All-Star team in each of the last three seasons with the UNB team.

McCormick turned to university hockey after five award-winning seasons in the Quebec Major Junior A Hockey League with the Cape Breton Eagles and the Bathurst-Acadien Titans.

As a member of the Eagles in the 2019-20 season, McCormick earned the Kevin Lowe Trophy as the league’s top defensive defenseman and all-star honours.

While gaining acclaim for his defensive play, the blueliner carried a significant load on the offensive side of the ledger. He contributed 29 goals and 123 assists in 262 Q games while contributing 17 goals and 60 assists for 77 points in 78 games with UNB.

McCormick began his hockey career in the Woodstock Minor Hockey system, playing his Bantam hockey with the North West Bulls AAA program before moving on to the Fredericton Caps U18 program.
