Sentencing set for break-in
Jonathon Daniel Stockford, 35, of Hartland, appeared for trial in provincial court in custody on April 4 and changed his plea to guilty on four charges laid by RCMP. A sentencing date was set for April 18 at 1:30 p.m.
Stockford was charged with stealing fuel from an Esso station in Florenceville-Bristol, breaking into the Sticks and Stones Storage facility on Burnham Road, stealing tires and rims, possessing stolen property, and mischief causing property damage to the storage facility following an incident on Nov. 14, 2023. He pleaded guilty to four of the charges. The crown withdrew the charge of possession of stolen goods.
Stockford has a lengthy prior criminal record. He has been in custody since his arrest in November.
Agreed to peace bond
Nicholas George Olmstead, 38, Canterbury, appeared for trial in provincial court on April 5 on three charges laid by Woodstock Police.
Olmstead was charged with assault involving a female victim, assault by choking and uttering threats following an incident on Sept. 5 in Woodstock. He agreed to sign a 12-month peace bond, the charges were dropped, and the trial did not proceed.
Held for bail hearing
Nicholas Carl Manzer, 26, of Newbridge, was arrested on a warrant after he failed to appear in provincial court for plea on March 26. A bail hearing was scheduled for April 5.
Manzer was charged by RCMP with possession of a firearm (a rifle) while prohibited, possession of a firearm without a licence, possession of a stolen truck, and improper storage of a gun concerning an incident on Nov. 11, 2023, at Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation).
The court heard he is also facing charges of breaching his release order and mischief causing property damage to his ankle bracelet.
Remanded after bail hearing
Brandon Jay Smith, 26, of Centreville, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 4 for a bail hearing. He was remanded to jail and returns to court in custody for plea on April 11 at 1:30 p.m.
RCMP charged Smith with breaking into a dwelling house and theft of firearms on July 3, 2023, in Summerfield. He also faces charges of break, enter and theft at a dwelling house, breaking into a garage, and theft of a trailer related to an incident on March 18 on the Back Greenfield Road.
In custody to await sentencing
Philip Sapper-Solomon, 30, of Neqotkuk, appeared in provincial court in custody for his trial on April 4. He changed his plea to guilty on two of the RCMP’s 14 charges. He also agreed to sign a 12-month peace bond on five of the charges.
Sappier-Solomon was arrested during an incident on Sept. 17, 2023, near Beechwood. He was charged with possession of a restricted weapon (a handgun) while prohibited; possession of ammunition while prohibited; possession of a firearm for the purpose of committing an offence; two counts of possession of a restricted weapon without a licence; being an occupant of a vehicle knowing it carried a firearm; possession of a loaded, restricted firearm (a handgun); assault and assault by choking involving a female victim; assault with a weapon (a cell phone); two counts of uttering threats; committing mischief causing property damage to a phone and tires, and mischief causing damage to a police vehicle.
On April 4, Sappier-Solomon pleaded guilty to possessing a restricted weapon (a handgun) while prohibited and to possessing ammunition while prohibited. The sentencing date was set for May 8 at 1:30 p.m. The crown withdrew any remaining charges.
He appeared in provincial court in custody by video on Dec. 13, 2023, for a bail hearing and was remanded to await his trial.
Sentencing set for Plaster Rock man
Justin Porter, 42, of Plaster Rock, appeared in provincial court on April 4 and changed his plea to guilty on three charges laid by RCMP. A sentencing date was set for July 9 at 1:30 p.m.
Porter was charged with five offences under the Off-Road Vehicle Act, including driving while suspended, obstructing police, and possessing a stolen ATV for an incident on Dec. 3, 2022, in Plaster Rock.
The crown withdrew the charges under the Off-Road Vehicle Act, and Porter pleaded guilty to the remaining charges. Porter had a limited prior criminal record. Another charge of failing to appear in court was also withdrawn.
Porter was also charged with fraud in connection with an incident on Sept. 1, 2022, in Plaster Rock. He pleaded not guilty, and a trial date was set for Feb. 13, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. A monitoring date was set for July 9.
In custody awaiting plea
Terrance Wright, 60, of Greenfield, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 4 for plea on charges laid by Woodstock Police. The matter was adjourned until April 11 at 9:30 a.m.
Woodstock Police charged Wright with assaulting another man and two counts of uttering threats concerning an incident on Feb. 24 in Woodstock. He waived his bail until later and was remanded.
He also appeared in provincial court in custody on Dec. 14, 2023. The RCMP charged him with three counts of uttering threats against a female victim, committing mischief causing property damage, and breaching a no-contact order in connection with incidents on Dec. 7 and Dec. 11, 2023, at Greenfield. He was ordered to have no contact with the complainant. He pleaded not guilty, and his trial date was set for May 30 at 9:30 a.m.
Remanded after bail hearing
Keith Kinney, Jr., 49, of Bath, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 4 for plea on two charges of failing to appear in court and to set a new date for his trial.
Kinney was charged with failing to appear in court on Oct. 16, 2023, and on Jan. 9. The matter was adjourned for plea until April 18 at 9:30 a.m.
He also faces a charge of shoplifting concerning an incident at a store in Bath on Nov. 21, 2023. Kinney will also enter a plea to that charge on April 18.
He appeared in court in custody on Feb. 20 for a bail hearing and was remanded to jail. He was arrested on a warrant after he failed to appear in provincial court on Jan. 9 to set a new date for his trial.
He also appeared in provincial court in custody on Dec. 18, 2023, after being arrested on a warrant for failing to appear for trial in October. He was released with conditions but then failed to return to court again.
RCMP charged Kinney with assaulting a police officer while threatening to use a weapon (a glass object) following an incident on Jan. 8, 2023, in Bath. He pleaded not guilty during an earlier court appearance and told the court he was tasered by police during the incident. A new trial date was set for July 12 at 1:30 p.m.
