Conditional sentence and time served for Neqotkuk man
Philip Sapper-Solomon, 30, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared in provincial court in custody for sentencing on May 14 after pleading guilty to two of 14 charges laid by RCMP.
Sappier-Solomon was sentenced to time served and a six-month conditional sentence order to be served at a rehabilitation centre in Moncton. He agreed to sign a 12-month peace bond on five of the charges. Sappier Solomon had been in jail for nearly eight months.
He was arrested in connection with an incident on Sept. 17, 2023, near Beechwood. He was charged with possession of a restricted weapon (a handgun) while prohibited; possession of ammunition while prohibited; possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence; two counts of possession of a restricted weapon without a licence; being an occupant of a vehicle knowing it carried a firearm; possession of a loaded, restricted firearm (a handgun); assault and assault by choking involving a female victim; assault with a weapon (a cell phone); two counts of uttering threats; committing mischief causing property damage to a phone and tires, and mischief causing damage to a police vehicle.
On April 4, Sappier-Solomon pleaded guilty to possession of a restricted weapon (a handgun) and ammunition while prohibited and guilty to possession of a firearm without a licence. The crown withdrew any remaining charges.
He appeared in provincial court in custody by video on Dec. 13, 2023, for a bail hearing and was remanded to await his trial.
Held in custody for bail hearing
Emily McSheffrey, 26, of Waterville, appeared in provincial court in custody on May 14 and was remanded to jail on six charges. She returns to court for a bail hearing on May 16 at 9:30 a.m.
McSheffrey was charged by RCMP with assault with a weapon (a hammer) involving a male victim, mischief causing property damage and breach of probation concerning an incident on April 27 at Wostak (Woodstock First Nation). She was also charged with assaulting another man, breach of a peace bond, and breach of probation for another incident on May 4 at Killoween. The court heard more charges are pending.
Charged with assault
McKenzie Doreen Sawyer, 26, of Woodstock, will appear in provincial court on June 4 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on two charges laid by Woodstock Police.
Sawyer was charged with assault involving a male victim between June 1, 2023, and July 31, 2023, and uttering threats against the same person between Aug. 1, 2023, and April 16, 2024, in Woodstock. She made her first court appearance on May 7, when the matter was adjourned to the new date.
Arthurette man to enter plea
Nicholas William Sutthery, 40, of Arthurette, will appear in provincial court for plea on June 4 at 9:30 a.m. on a charge of having stolen property.
Sutthery was charged by the RCMP with possession of a stolen truck in connection with an incident between Jan. 1 and 11 at Carlingford. He made his first court appearance on May 7, when the matter was adjourned to the new date.
Facing threat charge
Steven Derek Trecartin, 46, of East Brighton, will appear in provincial court on June 4 at 9:30 a.m. to answer a threat charge.
Woodstock Police charged Trecartin with uttering threats against a female victim following an incident on Nov. 1, 2023, in Woodstock. He made his first court appearance on May 7 when the matter was adjourned to the new date.
Two charged in break-in
Michael Holt, 68, of Riverglade, and Mitchell Hillman, 36, of Wilmot, will appear in provincial court on June 11 at 9:30 a.m. to answer charges related to a break-in at the tourist bureau at Richmond Corner.
The RCMP charged the pair with break, enter, and theft in connection with an incident on Feb. 19. They made their first court appearance on May 14, when the matter was adjourned to the new date.
East Brighton man has three charges
Eric Vrieze, 47, of East Brighton, will appear in provincial court on June 11 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on three charges laid by RCMP.
Vrieze was charged with assaulting police with a weapon (a knife), possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, and resisting arrest concerning an incident on May 6 at Hartland. He made his first court appearance on May 14 when the matter was adjourned to the new date.
Awaiting plea on firearm charges
Jeffrey David Watson, 33, of Johnville, will appear in provincial court on June 11 at 9:30 a.m. to answer three firearm charges laid by RCMP.
Watson was charged with possession of a firearm without a licence, possession of a firearm dangerous to the public peace, and careless use of a firearm in relation to an incident on Nov. 27, 2023, at Lower Kintore. He made his first court appearance on May 14 when the matter was adjourned to the new date.
Trial rescheduled on drug charge
Bronwyn Barbara Thomas, 23, of Bloomfield, appeared in provincial court on May 14 to set a new date for her trial on a drug charge. Her new trial dates were set for June 17, June 19 and Aug. 26 at 9:30 a.m.
RCMP charged Thomas with attempting to possess methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking in connection with an incident on March 2, 2022, near Centreville. She pleaded not guilty.
Couple to stand trial on trafficking, firearm charges
Patrick Thomas Tatlock, 59, and Marlene Donovan, 55, of Wapske, appeared in provincial court on May 14 to face drug trafficking and firearm charges.
Tatlock appeared in court in custody via teleconference and pleaded not guilty on all counts. His trial dates were set for Aug. 29 and Sept. 9 at 9:30 a.m. He was denied bail following a bail hearing in January.
He was charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking and unlawful possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling it concerning an incident on Dec. 12, 2023, at Wapske. He appeared in court in custody on Dec. 13, 2023, after being arrested on multiple charges by RCMP.
Tatlock was also charged with three counts of possession of a firearm while prohibited, two counts of improper storage of a gun, and three counts of possession of stolen property concerning incidents on Dec. 3 and Dec. 12, 2023, in Wapske. Two other charges of altering a manufacturer’s serial number were also laid under the Motor Vehicle Act. He pleaded not guilty, and his trial related to the incidents on Dec. 3, 2023, will be held on June 21 at 9:30 a.m.
Tatlock also faces a charge under the Fish and Wildlife Act for an incident on Dec. 8, 2023. He pleaded not guilty to illegal possession of a deer carcass, and a trial date was set for May 14, 2025, at 1:30 p.m.
Donovan also appeared in court on May 14. She was charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, unlawful possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling it, three counts of possession of stolen property (an ATV, licence plates, and a snowmobile), two counts of possession of a firearm without a licence, and improper storage of a firearm for an incident on Dec. 12, 2023, at Wapske. She pleaded not guilty to all the charges, and her trial dates were also set for Aug. 29 and Sept. 9 at 9:30 a.m.
Neqotkuk woman awaiting plea
Maurene Anne Nicholas, 48, of Neqotkuk, will appear in provincial court on June 4 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on an assault charge.
RCMP charged Nicholas with assaulting another woman near Perth-Andover on Oct. 28, 2022. She appeared in court on May 14 when the matter was adjourned to the new date.
Arrest warrant issued
The court issued an arrest warrant for Tobi Amanda Paul, 50, of Lower Woodstock, after she failed to appear in provincial court on May 14 for a plea on two charges laid by RCMP.
Paul was charged with assault and committing mischief causing property damage to a vehicle in an incident on Jan. 14 at Hay Settlement. She made her first court appearance on April 16 but did not return to court for a plea.
Perth-Andover man to enter plea
Joshua Sebey, 25, of Perth-Andover, will appear in provincial court on June 4 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on an impaired driving charge.
Sebey was charged by the RCMP in relation to an incident on Sept. 3, 2023, near Aroostook. He was scheduled for a plea on May 14, but the matter was adjourned to a new date at the request of his defence counsel.
Sentencing set for Neqotkuk woman
Shelby Paul, 28, of Neqotkuk, will appear in provincial court on Aug. 20 at 1:30 p.m. for sentencing on a mischief charge. She pleaded guilty at a court appearance on May 14.
Paul was charged by RCMP with mischief causing property damage to a door at the tribal council office at Neqotkuk on Aug. 23, 2023.
Plea pending on fraud charge
Edwin Norman Pardy, 64, of Carlow, will appear in provincial court on June 4 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on an indictable fraud charge laid by Woodstock Police.
Pardy was charged with defrauding Service Canada for an amount exceeding $5,000 concerning incidents between July 27, 2017, and Nov. 26, 2021, at Woodstock.
He was scheduled for plea on May 14, but the matter was adjourned to allow him more time to secure legal counsel. Pardy told the court he was having difficulty hiring a lawyer.
Returning to court for plea
Corey Andrew Lane, 39, of Woodstock, will appear in provincial court on May 21 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on one charge laid by RCMP. The matter was scheduled for May 14 but was adjourned at the request of his defence counsel. A warrant will be kept on file until his next court appearance.
Lane appeared in provincial court in custody on March 28 and was released with conditions. He was arrested on a warrant after failing to appear in provincial court for a plea on March 5.
Lane was charged with breaching an undertaking by violating a no-contact order concerning an incident on Feb. 7 at Newbridge and breach of a release order on April 23 at Woodstock. He was ordered to have no contact with the complainant.
Newfoundland man awaiting plea
Daniel Ralph Arch, 49, of Northern Arm, Newfoundland, appeared in provincial court on May 14 to answer one charge laid by RCMP. He returns to court for plea on June 4 at 9:30 a.m. The court heard he needed more time to consult legal counsel.
Arch was charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm following an accident on March 27 at Dorrington Hill near Canterbury. He was released on an undertaking until his next court appearance.
Arrest warrant issued for Jinson
The court issued an arrest warrant for Jacob Jinson, 25, of Woodstock, after he failed to appear in provincial court on May 14 for a plea to a threat charge.
Jinson appeared in provincial court in custody on April 17 and was released with conditions. RCMP charged him with uttering threats for an incident on April 10 at Somerville.
Neqotkuk woman to stand trial
Rachel Sockabasin, 40, of Neqotkuk, appeared in provincial court on May 14 to set dates for her trial after pleading not guilty to multiple theft charges laid by RCMP. Her trial was scheduled for Jan. 17, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. A monitoring date was also set for Sept. 10 at 1:30 p.m.
Sockabasin appeared in provincial court in custody by video on Feb. 28 for a bail hearing and was released with conditions. She was charged with breach of an undertaking, breach of probation and three counts of theft concerning incidents on Feb. 12, Aug. 11, 2023, and Dec. 22, 2023, at the Ultramar in Carlingford.
Sentencing reset for Woodstock woman
Brittany Priscilla King, 27, of Upper Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody via teleconference on May 14 for sentencing on charges laid by Woodstock Police.
King pleaded guilty to possession of stolen property, two counts of assaulting a police officer, and resisting arrest for an incident on Nov. 7, 2022, in Woodstock.
The crown withdrew a mischief charge, and her sentencing date was rescheduled for May 29 at 9:30 a.m. She was released from custody following a detention review hearing at the Court of King’s Bench.
Woodstock Police also charged her with possession of a stolen vehicle, dangerous driving, committing mischief causing property damage and assault using a vehicle following an incident on Sept. 17, 2023, in Woodstock; possession of a stolen vehicle on Nov. 22, 2022, and failing to attend court on Feb. 21, 2023. She pleaded not guilty, and a trial date was set for July 15 at 9:30 a.m.
King was also charged with assault, theft, and breaking into a dwelling house for an incident on Nov. 5, 2023, in Woodstock. She pleaded not guilty. At the crown’s request, the trial was adjourned until Aug. 23 at 1:30 p.m.
She appeared in provincial court in custody in November for a bail hearing. She was released with conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to her ankle, but returned to custody.
In custody on multiple charges
Ryan Troy O’Donnell, 27, of Johnville, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on May 14 to answer charges of possession of stolen property (cheques) and mischief causing property damage.
O’Donnell returns to court in custody for plea on June 4 at 9:30 a.m. RCMP laid the charges following an incident on Dec. 16, 2023. He waived his bail until later.
On April 11, he was in custody by video to answer a sexual assault charge laid by RCMP. He pleaded not guilty, and a trial date was set for June 26 at 9:30 a.m.
O’Donnell was charged with sexual assault in connection with an incident in Beechwood between Sept. 1 and Sept. 30, 2021.
O’Donnell appeared in provincial court in custody on Feb. 23 for a bail hearing and was remanded to jail. On Feb. 15, the RCMP charged him with breaching a release order and held him in custody.
He also appeared in provincial court in custody on Jan. 24 for a bail hearing. He was released with conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle, but was brought back into custody.
O’Donnell was charged by RCMP with assault involving a female victim, uttering threats, and breach of probation concerning an incident on Jan. 25 near Johnville.
A date for a hearing about an alleged breach of a conditional sentence order was scheduled for April 5.
O’Donnell received a nine-month conditional sentence on Aug. 1, 2023, after pleading guilty to indictable assault, theft, breach of a release order, two counts of breach of probation, uttering threats and assault on a female victim. He spent five months in remand before being released on a conditional sentence. O’Donnell has a prior criminal record.
Sentencing delayed on two charges
Brandon Cecil Armour, 34, of no fixed address, appeared in provincial court in custody on May 14 for sentencing after pleading guilty to two charges laid by Woodstock Police. His sentencing was adjourned until May 23 at 1:30 p.m. at the request of his defence counsel.
Woodstock Police charged Armour with prowling at night and resisting arrest in connection with an incident on March 24, 2023, in Woodstock. He pleaded guilty on May 1.
He was also charged with breach of an undertaking and failing to attend court on July 11, 2023, theft of a vehicle and resisting arrest on Aug. 14, 2023. He pleaded not guilty at an earlier court appearance, and a trial date was set for Sept. 5 at 9:30 a.m.
RCMP also charged Armour with breaching a release order following incidents on Jan. 7 and Feb. 6 near Johnville. He appeared in court in custody on Feb. 9 for a bail hearing and waived his bail until later. On March 13, he pleaded not guilty to two counts of breaching his release order and a trial date was set for Sept. 5 at 9:30 a.m.
Armour appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 11 and was sentenced to one year in jail, minus time served, after pleading guilty to another charge. He was also placed on probation for 12 months.
Armour was charged by RCMP with breaking into a dwelling house, committing mischief causing property damage to a door, and assaulting a female victim, stemming from an incident on June 8, 2022, in Beechwood. He pleaded guilty to breaking into the dwelling, and the crown withdrew the two remaining charges.
Armour appeared in court in custody on Aug. 15, 2023, after being arrested on a warrant. He appeared on Sept. 28, 2023, for a bail hearing and was released with conditions but was brought back into custody.
