Woodstock Provincial Court: Meductic woman awaiting sentencing, Neqotkuk man remanded

Sentencing set for Meductic woman

Tori Madeline Snow, 20, of Meductic, appeared in provincial court on July 17 and pleaded guilty to an assault charge laid by RCMP. Her sentencing date was set for Oct. 22 at 1:30 p.m.

Snow was charged by RCMP with assaulting another woman, uttering threats, and theft of a safe following an incident on June 19, 2023, at Meductic.  She pleaded guilty to the assault, and the crown withdrew the remaining two charges.

Snow also agreed to sign a 12-month peace bond regarding several other separate charges. She was charged with assault causing bodily harm to a male person, committing mischief causing property damage, and breaking into a dwelling house with intent to commit an assault concerning another incident on July 3, 2023, at Meductic. The peace bond will result in these charges being withdrawn.

Snow appeared in provincial court in custody by video on July 6, 2023, for a bail hearing and was released with conditions, including a curfew and a no-contact order to stay away from the complainants. The curfew was lifted with consent from the crown.

Remanded for bail hearing

Brandon Michael Francis, 28, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared in provincial court in custody on July 23 and was remanded to jail. He returns to court in custody by video on July 26 at 9:30 a.m. for a bail hearing.

RCMP charged Francis with four counts of committing mischief causing property damage, breach of probation, assault involving a female victim, uttering threats, and willfully causing injury to a dog by kicking it. The charges were laid in connection with incidents on July 17 and July 19 at Neqotkuk.

Woodstock man awaiting trial

Alec Atherton, 36, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court on July 11 and pleaded not guilty to two charges laid by RCMP. His trial date was set for May 2, 2025, at 1:30 p.m.

Atherton was charged with illegal possession of cocaine and refusing a breathalyzer concerning an incident on March 1 at Bloomfield.

Arthurette man to enter plea

Johnny Lee Bloodsworth, 39, of Arthurette, appeared in provincial court on July 23 to answer multiple charges laid by RCMP. The matter was adjourned for plea until Aug. 20 at 9:30 a.m. to allow him more time to secure legal counsel.

He was charged with sexual assault, two counts of touching a minor for a sexual purpose, and uttering threats in connection with an incident between April 1, 2023 and Sept. 1, 2023, at Arthurette.

Bloodsworth also faces several firearm charges for a separate incident on June 14 at Arthurette, including possession of multiple shotguns and rifles without a licence, possession of a prohibited firearm with ready ammunition, and possession of several restricted firearms without a licence.

He appeared in provincial court in custody by video on June 25 for a bail hearing and was released with conditions. He was ordered to follow a curfew and reside in Grand Falls.

Mapleview woman awaiting plea

Samantha Adderly, 53, of Mapleview, Victoria County, will appear in provincial court on Aug. 6 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on three charges laid by RCMP.

Adderly was charged with refusing a breathalyzer, impaired driving, and assaulting a police officer in connection with an incident on April 3 near Perth-Andover. She made her first court appearance on July 9 when the matter was adjourned to the new date.

Released from custody for rehab

Brittany Francis, 35, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared in provincial court in custody by video on July 23 and was released with conditions. She told the court she is scheduled to enter a rehab facility in her community on Aug. 6.

Francis appeared in court in custody on July 11 for a bail hearing and was denied bail. She was charged with breaching her conditional sentence order by violating curfew on Feb. 15 at Neqotkuk. On July 23, she admitted to the breach and was granted release after spending a month in jail. She was arrested in June.

Francis received a 180-day conditional sentence order of house arrest in January after pleading guilty to several theft charges. Her house arrest included following a curfew.

Maine man to stand trial

Robert Louis Cherrier, 44, of Caribou, Maine, appeared in provincial court on July 23 and pleaded not guilty to two charges for allegedly having a handgun in his possession at the Woodstock/Houlton border crossing. His trial date was set for June 16, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.

Cherrier was charged under the Customs Act with failing to report goods in his possession (a Glock 34, 40-calibre handgun) and making false statements to border officials, stemming from an incident on Feb. 20.

Facing threat charge

Kaylee Tarry, 25, of Coldstream, will appear for trial in provincial court on June 27, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to a threat charge.

RCMP charged Tarry with uttering threats against a male person on June 14 near Rockland. Her lawyer entered her not-guilty plea on July 9.

Assault with steel-toed boots

Felicia (St. Peter) Demerchant, 45, of Glassville, will appear in provincial court on Aug. 6 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on an assault charge.

Demerchant was charged by RCMP with assault with a weapon (steel-toed boots) involving a male victim in connection with an incident on May 30 near Glassville. She made her first court appearance on July 9 when the matter was adjourned to the new date.

Woodstock man facing charges

Jack Michael Pirie, 20, of Woodstock, will appear in provincial court on Oct. 1 at 9:30 a.m. to answer charges laid by Woodstock Police. He was scheduled for plea on July 23 when the matter was adjourned to the new date at the request of his defence counsel.

Pirie was charged with assault, assault by choking and uttering threats in connection with an incident on May 1-2 in Woodstock.

He will also appear for a plea on another charge laid by Woodstock Police. On June 8, he was arrested on a warrant and charged with assaulting police with intent to resist arrest in Woodstock. Pirie appeared in provincial court in custody on June 10 for a bail hearing and was released with conditions.

Trial date pending

Robert McFarlane, 39, of Florenceville-Bristol, appeared in provincial court on July 23 and pleaded not guilty to charges laid by RCMP. His trial date will be set at his next court appearance on Aug. 20 at 9:30 a.m.

McFarlane appeared in provincial court in custody by video on June 27 and was released with conditions.

He was charged with assaulting another man on April 4 at Florenceville-Bristol, breaking into a dwelling house, committing mischief causing property damage to a door, and breach of an undertaking on May 4 in Johnville. He was arrested on a warrant.

As part of his release, McFarlane was ordered to follow a curfew, have no contact with the complainant and stay away from a residence in Johnville. He was also prohibited from the use of firearms.

Back in custody

Zachary Sarchfield, 30, of Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation), appeared in provincial court in custody by video on July 23. He was arrested on July 19 for attempting to breach his release order. Sarchfield will return to court in custody on Aug. 1 at 9:30 a.m. for a bail hearing.

On July 15, he was released from custody with conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle. He was scheduled to return to court for plea on Aug. 13 at 1:30 p.m. but was taken back into custody.

RCMP charged Sarchfield with two counts of unlawful confinement, assault, and possession of a weapon to commit an offence.

He appeared in provincial court in custody via teleconference on Jan. 18 after being arrested on a warrant in Fredericton. He was released with conditions but failed to return to court for plea in February. Sarchfield also failed to appear in court to answer charges on Jan. 16, and a warrant was issued.

In custody awaiting plea

Corey Andrew Lane, 39, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody on July 23 for a bail hearing. He waived his bail until later and returns to court in custody for plea on Aug. 13 at 9:30 a.m.

RCMP charged Lane with uttering threats, mischief causing property damage to a vehicle, and breach of a no-contact order following an incident on July 18 at Jackson Falls.

On Tuesday, Lane was also charged with assault involving a female victim, uttering threats and breach of a no-contact order for another incident on July 15.

He also appeared in provincial court on May 21 and pleaded not guilty to other separate charges laid by RCMP. His trial date was set for June 9, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.

Lane was charged with assault involving a female victim on Jan. 1 at Newbridge and breach of a no-contact order on Feb. 7 at Newbridge. He was also charged with failing to appear in court on March 5 and March 14, breaching an undertaking by violating a no-contact order on Feb. 7 at Newbridge and breaching a release order on April 23 at Woodstock. He was ordered to have no contact with the complainant.

Lane appeared in provincial court in custody on March 28 and was released with conditions.  He was arrested on a warrant for failing to appear.

Remanded for plea

Joseph Martin, 37, of Perth-Andover, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on July 23 to answer charges laid by RCMP. The matter was adjourned for plea until Aug. 20 at 9:30 a.m.

Martin appeared in provincial court in custody for a bail hearing on July 8 and was remanded to jail. RCMP charged him with assault for an incident on July 4 at Perth-Andover. He was arrested and taken into custody on July 5.

RCMP also charged Martin with possessing a stolen ATV and breach of probation. He failed to appear in court to answer the charges on June 4, and a warrant was issued. Martin turned himself in at the courthouse on June 12 and was arrested by sheriffs. He was later released with conditions but was re-arrested.

Two charged in break-in

Mitchell Hillman, 36, of Wilmot, appeared in provincial court on July 23 and pleaded not guilty to a charge related to a break-in at the tourist bureau at Richmond Corner. His trial date was set for June 26, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.

Michael Holt, 68, of Riverglade, also appeared in provincial court on July 23 to answer a charge stemming from the same break-in. He pleaded not guilty, and his trial date was set for July 16, 2025, at 1:30 p.m.

The RCMP charged the pair with break-and-entry and theft in connection with an incident on Feb. 19. 

Bail hearing adjourned

Trevor Lee Crain, 49, of Killoween, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on July 23 to set a date for a bail hearing on charges laid by RCMP. The bail hearing was adjourned until Aug. 1 at 9:30 a.m. at the request of his defence counsel.

Crain was charged by RCMP with possession of a prohibited weapon (brass knuckles), resisting arrest, and breach of a release order in connection with an incident on July 1 at Killoween.

He was also charged with breaking into a residence and committing sexual assault for another incident between May 1 and May 23, 2023, at Moose Mountain.

He also faces a charge of possessing stolen property for a separate incident on May 5. He pleaded not guilty and a trial date will be set at his next court appearance.

Crain was scheduled to appear for trial on July 11 after pleading not guilty to a series of other charges. However, those matters were adjourned until after his plea on the new charges.

Crain was charged by RCMP with breaking and entering at a dwelling house and breaching an undertaking on June 15, 2023, at Moose Mountain, and committing an assault involving a female victim on June 11, 2023, at Killoween.

He appeared in provincial court in custody by video on Sept. 14, 2023, for a bail hearing and was released with conditions. He was ordered to follow a curfew and report to the police weekly as part of his release order but was brought back into custody.

Arthurette man to stand trial

Mitchell Sutthery, 38, of Arthurette, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on July 23 and pleaded not guilty to charges laid by RCMP. His trial date was set for Oct. 31 at 9:30 a.m. He remains in custody.

Sutthery appeared in court in custody for a bail hearing on June 20 and was remanded. He was arrested on May 23 and charged with breach of a conditional sentence order, two counts of resisting arrest, two counts of assaulting a police officer, escaping lawful custody, and breach of probation.

The court heard the breach of a conditional sentence order was a new charge, alleged to have occurred for a second time. A hearing about the breach will be held on Aug. 1 at 1:30 p.m.

Not-guilty plea on two charges

James Blair Hovey, 27, of Perth Andover, appeared in provincial court on July 23 and pleaded not guilty to two charges laid by RCMP. His trial date was set for July 14, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.

RCMP charged Hovey with possession of a stolen vehicle and breach of probation stemming from an incident on Jan. 9 at Carlingford. He appeared in provincial court in custody via teleconference on May 21 after being arrested on a warrant for failing to appear in court. He was released with conditions.

Hovey appeared in provincial court on April 30 and pleaded not guilty to other charges laid by RCMP. His trial date was set for May 9, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. RCMP charged him with possession of a stolen ATV, flight from police, and breach of probation concerning an incident on March 30 at Tobique Narrows.

Sentencing set on three charges

Nicholas Charles Paul, 46, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared in provincial court in custody by video on July 23 and pleaded guilty to three charges laid by RCMP. His sentencing was set for July 30 at 9:30 a.m.

Paul was denied bail on June 3. He has been in custody since his arrest in early May. He pleaded guilty to breaching a release order by failing to follow the conditions of electronic monitoring (ankle bracelet) for an incident on May 1 at Neqotkuk, and guilty to possession of a stolen vehicle and breach of probation concerning another incident on June 29, 2023, in Woodstock.

Paul was sentenced to 12 months of house arrest after pleading guilty to a series of other charges laid by RCMP. The first six months will be full house arrest followed by six months with a curfew. However, he will not be released to begin his house arrest until the newer charges are resolved.

Paul pleaded guilty to possession of a stolen vehicle, obstructing police, and breach of an undertaking on Dec. 3, 2021, in Grand Falls and Neqotkuk; guilty to

possession of a stolen vehicle, breach of probation and possession of a stolen credit card for an incident on Sept. 12, 2023, in Hartland; guilty to theft from a store in Carlingford on Aug. 30, 2023; guilty to two counts of dangerous driving, two counts of suspended driving, and two counts of flight from police for incidents on Aug. 8 and Aug. 11, 2023, in Perth Andover; and guilty to failing to attend court on Nov. 21, 2023.

He was fined $1,200 for driving while suspended and was prohibited from driving for one year.

Paul was also charged with flight from police, and break, enter and theft at a storage shed following an incident on Sept. 4, 2022, at Perth-Andover. He changed his plea to guilty and is awaiting sentencing for those offences. Paul had a limited prior criminal record.

Woodstock man facing two charges

Justin Shea of Woodstock will appear in provincial court on Aug. 20 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on two charges laid by RCMP. He appeared in court on July 23 when the matter was adjourned to allow him more time to secure legal counsel.

Shea was charged with mischief causing property damage and break, enter and theft at the East Coast Truck Wash for an incident on March 17 in Lower Woodstock.

Trial set for Clearview man

Kyle Laurie Williams, 35, of Clearview, appeared in provincial court on July 23 for monitoring about his trial. He told the court he expected to have legal counsel soon. Another monitoring date was set for July 30 at 9:30 a.m.

Williams is scheduled to appear for trial in provincial court on Oct. 7 at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to one charge laid by RCMP. He was charged with transmitting intimate images without consent concerning an incident on June 4, 2023, at Centreville. Williams entered his not-guilty plea during a court appearance on Jan. 9.

Second mental health assessment ordered

Steven Frank Powers, 59, of Plaster Rock, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on July 23 for plea on charges laid by RCMP. He was remanded for a second 30-day mental health assessment at the Restigouche Hospital. He returns to court in custody for a fitness hearing on Aug. 20 at 9:30 a.m.

Powers was remanded in February for a mental health assessment at Restigouche Hospital after being arrested by RCMP. He was charged with breach of an undertaking and breach of probation for an incident in Plaster Rock. He was later transferred back to jail in Madawaska and waived his bail until later.

Plea pending for East Brighton man

Eric Vrieze, 47, of East Brighton, will appear in provincial court on Aug. 20 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on charges laid by RCMP. He was scheduled for plea on July 23, but the matter was adjourned to the new date. The court heard Vrieze could not appear on Tuesday because he had entered a rehab facility.

Vrieze appeared in provincial court on July 2 and was arrested by sheriffs at the courthouse for being in an intoxicated condition. He returned to court later in custody but could not answer his name. His head bobbed from side to side, and he was unaware of his surroundings. The court heard Vrieze had a drug problem and was awaiting an appointment with mental health.

Vrieze also appeared in court on June 11 and pleaded not guilty to three charges laid by RCMP. His court appearance on July 23 was to set a trial date.

Vrieze was charged with assaulting police with a weapon (a knife), possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, and resisting arrest concerning an incident on May 6 at Hartland.

Neqotkuk man has three trial dates

Jordan Perley, 35, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared in provincial court in custody by video on July 23 to set one new trial date after pleading not guilty to all charges laid against him by RCMP.

His trial dates were set for Aug. 22 at 9:30 a.m., Oct. 11 at 9:30 a.m., and Oct. 24 at 9:30 a.m.

Perley appeared in court in custody by video on June 20 for a bail hearing and was denied bail. He was charged with two counts of breaking into a dwelling house, mischief causing property damage, uttering threats, three counts of assault, and resisting arrest concerning an incident on May 17 at Neqotkuk.

He appeared in court in custody on May 8 and was released with conditions after being arrested on a warrant for failing to appear in court in April. He was re-arrested on the new charges and remanded.

Perley was also charged by RCMP with two other counts of attempted break and enter at a dwelling house, two counts of mischief causing property damage on Jan. 1 at Neqotkuk; attempted break and enter at a dwelling house, mischief, possession of a prohibited weapon (a butterfly knife), and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace on March 18 at Neqotkuk. He was also charged with failing to appear in court on April 9.
