Maine man fined $4,000 for handgun at border
Robert Louis Cherrier, 44, of Caribou, Maine, appeared for trial in provincial court on June 16 and changed his plea to guilty on two charges for having a handgun in his possession at the Woodstock/Houlton border crossing. He was fined a total of $4,000.
Cherrier was charged under the Customs Act with failing to report goods in his possession (a Glock 34, 40-calibre handgun) and making false statements to border officials, stemming from an incident on Feb. 20, 2024.
Charged with robbery with violence
Tearston Tee Saulis, 30, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared in provincial court in custody on June 17 to set a date for his bail hearing.
The bail hearing was postponed after Judge Scott Brittain ordered him to undergo a five-day mental health assessment at the Restigouche hospital. He returns to court in custody on June 25 at 9:30 a.m. for a fitness hearing.
Saulis appeared in court in custody by video from federal prison on June 3. He was charged by the RCMP with robbery of a motor vehicle with violence on March 26 at Neqotkuk. The court heard he allegedly struck a woman during the incident.
Saulis was arrested in March on a Canada-wide warrant issued by Correctional Services Canada for an alleged parole violation. His federal sentence expires in August.
Saulis is facing charges both in Woodstock and Miramichi and appeared in custody from provincial jail for a court appearance on June 6.
Charged with drug trafficking
Samantha Graham, 34, of Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation), appeared in provincial court on June 16 and pleaded not guilty to three charges laid by Woodstock Police. Her three-day trial was set for Aug. 12-14, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.
Graham was charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling it, and possession of a prohibited weapon (a spring-action knife), in connection with an incident on Aug. 8 -9, 2024, in Woodstock.
Arthurette man awaits sentencing
Nicholas William Sutthery, 40, of Arthurette, appeared in provincial court on June 17 and pleaded guilty to two charges laid by the RCMP. His sentencing date was set for Sept. 8 at 1:30 p.m.
Sutthery pleaded guilty to assaulting a female victim and uttering threats on July 29, 2024, in Perth Andover. He is also awaiting sentencing on Sept. 8 on more charges after entering a guilty plea.
He was charged by RCMP with three counts of uttering threats at Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation) on Sept. 25, 2024, assault with a weapon (ramming a vehicle), dangerous driving, break and enter at a dwelling house, and possession of a stolen ATV on May 27, 2024, in Perth Andover, and breach of an undertaking on July 16, 2024.
Sutthery was also charged with possession of a stolen truck in connection with an incident between Jan. 1-11, 2024, at Carlingford. He has a dated prior criminal record. He was denied bail on Oct. 3, 2024, and released from custody on March 17 to await sentencing after spending several months in remand.
Remanded for mental health assessment
Brandon Edward Cormier Sabattis, 31, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on June 17 for sentencing on an assault charge.
Judge Karen Lee adjourned his sentencing and ordered him to undergo a five-day mental health assessment at the Restigouche hospital. He returns to court in custody on June 24 at 9:30 a.m. for a fitness hearing.
Sabattis pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm. The court heard he was remanded on other charges in Fredericton and was recently placed under the purview of the provincial Mental Health Review Board.
Bail decision reserved
Takoda Louis Lee Christian, 19, of Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation), appeared in provincial court in custody by video on June 16 for a bail hearing. Judge Scott Brittain reserved his decision on bail until June 19 at 1:30 p.m.
Christian appeared in court in custody on May 29 after being arrested for breaching his release order. He was released with conditions on May 1 with an ankle bracelet but was taken back into custody.
He was charged by Woodstock Police with breach of a release order (house arrest) on April 16 at Wotstak and breach of a no-contact order on April 14 in Woodstock.
He was also charged with assault and unlawful confinement between June 29, 2024, and July 4, 2024, at Wotstak, assault and two counts of assault by choking in Fredericton between Feb. 10 and Feb. 19, and mischief causing property damage to a cell phone between Feb. 10 and Feb. 19 at Wotstak.
He was also charged with assaulting another man with a weapon (a knife), uttering threats and mischief, causing property damage to a window in connection with an incident on April 8 in Lansdowne.
Christian also faces charges laid by Woodstock Police following an assault outside the Royal Canadian Legion on Nov. 14, 2024. Police were called to the scene, and a man was transported to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Christian was charged with indictable aggravated assault, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
He also appeared in provincial court on April 15 and pleaded not guilty to another indictable assault charge laid by Woodstock Police. His trial was set for April 29, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.
Christian pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault concerning an incident on March 25 at the Ayr Motor Centre. Woodstock. Police said a 16-year-old victim suffered significant injuries in the incident and was transported to the Upper River Valley Hospital for treatment.
Released from custody
Ashley Dawn Giberson, 33, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on June 17 and pleaded guilty to two charges laid by Woodstock Police. Her sentencing date was set for Oct. 7 at 1:30 p.m., and she was released from custody with conditions.
Giberson pleaded guilty to shoplifting at the Canadian Tire in Woodstock on Feb. 3, 2024, and one count of breaching a release order by failing to follow a curfew between Sept. 1 and Nov. 9, 2023, in Woodstock. The crown withdrew two other breach charges. She was arrested on a warrant for failing to attend court.
Awaiting bail hearing
Timothy Canam, 45, of Johnville, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on June 16 for a fitness hearing. Judge Scott Brittain ruled he was fit to stand trial in accordance with his medical report.
Canam returns to court in custody by video on June 19 at 9:30 a.m. for a bail hearing. He appeared in provincial court in custody on June 10 and was remanded to the Restigouche hospital for a five-day mental health assessment.
RCMP charged Canam with two counts of uttering threats on June 6 at Johnville, resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer, and assault causing bodily harm to a police officer on June 9 in Johnville.
Bail hearing adjourned
William (Billy) Harding, 35, of Plaster Rock, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on June 16 for a bail hearing. Judge Scott Brittain adjourned the bail hearing and ordered a five-day mental health assessment for Harding at the Restigouche hospital.
Harding returns to court in custody on June 23 at 9:30 a.m. for a fitness hearing. RCMP charged him with breaking into a dwelling house, mischief, causing damage to his ankle bracelet, and three counts of breaching his release order on June 7 in Perth-Andover.
He was also charged with assault with a weapon (a knife) involving a male victim and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace following an incident on May 11 at Perth Andover.
Harding appeared in provincial court on April 22 to answer theft charges laid by Woodstock Police and RCMP. Those matters were adjourned for plea until June 10, but he failed to appear, and a warrant was issued.
Harding was charged by Woodstock Police with theft from the Superstore and breach of probation following an incident on Sept. 10, 2024, in Woodstock. A co-accused, Tammy Schloemer, 60, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), was charged in relation to the same incident.
Harding was also charged with theft of a laptop in Perth-Andover on March 12, 2024; breach of probation on March 20, 2024; and breach of probation by failing to report between Dec. 12, 2023, and Sept. 3, 2024. He has a prior criminal record.
Not-guilty to impaired driving
Gregory McKay, 40, of Florenceville-Bristol, was scheduled to appear in provincial court on June 17 to answer an impaired driving charge. His legal counsel appeared via teleconference and entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf.
McKay will return to court for trial on Aug. 10, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. He was charged by the RCMP, stemming from an incident on Dec. 24, 2024.
Released with ankle bracelet
Morgan Nicholas, 28, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared in provincial court in custody by video on June 16 for a bail hearing on two charges laid by RCMP. He was released with conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle.
Nicholas returns to court for plea on June 20 at 1:30 p.m. He was arrested on June 3 and charged with theft and breaching his release order concerning an incident at Neqotkuk.
Nicholas and Brandon Michael Francis, 29, also of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared in provincial court on June 10 for plea on other charges related to an alleged break-in at a dwelling house. The matter was adjourned for plea until June 20 at 9:30 a.m. to allow both accused more time to consult legal counsel.
Both men appeared in provincial court in custody by video on May 1 for a bail hearing. They were released with conditions, including house arrest and the requirement to wear an electronic monitoring device attached to their ankles. Both were brought back into custody.
Francis and Nicholas were each charged with breaking into a dwelling house, mischief causing property damage to a door and window, and assaulting another man with a wooden two-by-four in connection with an incident on April 29 at Neqotkuk. Francis also faces additional charges of uttering threats, resisting arrest, and breach of probation concerning the same incident. Both men have prior criminal records.
Francis appeared in provincial court in custody by video again on May 29. He waived his bail until later and returns to court in custody for plea on more charges on June 20 at 1:30 p.m.
RCMP charged him with breaching his release order by violating the conditions of electronic monitoring and mischief, causing damage to his ankle bracelet.
Trial set on four charges
Kayla Dawn Tibbits, 32, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court on June 17 and pleaded not guilty to four charges laid by Woodstock Police. Her trial was scheduled for Aug. 14, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.
Tibbits was charged with breach of probation, theft, fraud involving a debit card, and possession of stolen property concerning three incidents in Woodstock between Nov. 20, 2024, and Dec. 6, 2024. A monitoring date for her trial was booked for June 9, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.
Warrant on file
A warrant is being held on file for Nekko Dominique, 32, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), after he failed to appear in provincial court on June 17 for plea on charges laid by RCMP.
Dominique appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 15 for a bail hearing. He was released with conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle.
RCMP charged him with breaching a release order (curfew), theft, and breach of probation for an incident on April 12 at Neqotkuk.
Plea date adjourned
Logan Estey, 20, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court on June 17 for plea on a breach charge laid by Woodstock Police. The matter was adjourned until June 23 at 9:30 a.m. at the request of his defence counsel.
Estey appeared in provincial court in custody by video on June 5 for a bail hearing and was released with conditions (ankle bracelet). He was charged with breaching a release order (no contact) for an incident on June 1 in Woodstock.
At an earlier court appearance, he pleaded not guilty to other separate matters and three trial dates were set for Oct. 31 at 9:30 a.m., Feb. 4, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. and March 6, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.
Estey was charged by RCMP with assault, assault with a weapon (a car), and dangerous driving following an incident on July 24, 2024, at Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation).
Woodstock Police charged him with two counts of breaching a no-contact order concerning an incident on Aug. 3, 2024, in Woodstock. He was ordered to have no further contact with the complainant. He appeared in provincial court in custody on Aug. 8, 2024, and was released with conditions.
He was also charged with mischief, causing property damage to a window, and possession of a firearm for the purpose of committing an offence in connection with an incident on Jan. 1, 2024, in Upper Woodstock. The court heard Estey was also facing more charges in Fredericton.
Centreville woman pleads guilty
Amber Dawn Shaw, 35, of Centreville, will appear in provincial court for sentencing on June 18 at 1:30 p.m. after pleading guilty to three charges laid by RCMP.
Shaw was charged with obstructing police, fraudulent impersonation and breach of probation following an incident on June 22, 2024, in Upper Woodstock. She entered her guilty plea at a court appearance on March 18.
Beaconsfield man awaiting trial
Tyler Williams, 24, of Beaconsfield, will appear for trial in provincial court on Jan. 19, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. after pleading not guilty to a mischief charge.
Williams was charged by RCMP with mischief causing property damage to a car window, stemming from an incident on Nov. 20, 2024, at Beaconsfield. He pleaded not guilty on Feb. 25. On June 17, he appeared in court for monitoring and confirmed he would be ready to proceed to trial without a lawyer.
Sentencing date coming up
Jayson Lee O’Hagan, 21, of Bairdsville, will appear for sentencing in provincial court on June 26 at 1:30 p.m. after changing his plea to guilty on two charges laid by RCMP.
O’Hagan pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and breaching a release order on Sept. 15, 2024, near Bairdsville. The crown withdrew several other charges. He appeared in provincial court in custody by video on March 20 for a bail hearing and was released with conditions, including house arrest.
O’Hagan appeared in provincial court in custody on May 8 and was released with conditions. He will enter a plea on June 26 at 1:30 p.m. on a charge of breaching his release order.
Facing seven charges
Lee Roy Durepos, 49, of Tobique Narrows, appeared in provincial court on June 17 to answer seven charges laid by RCMP. The matter was adjourned for plea until July 22 at 9:30 a.m. His defence counsel needed more time to review an extensive disclosure from the crown.
Durepos was charged with touching a female minor for a sexual purpose, invitation to sexual touching, and making sexually explicit materials available to a minor, concerning incidents between Jan. 1, 2023, and May 27, 2024, at Odell.
He was also charged with sexual assault, sexual assault while choking the victim, and uttering threats for another incident between Jan. 1, 2023, and Oct. 4, 2024, at Odell. Another charge of indecent exposure was laid for an incident alleged to have occurred between Sept. 1, 2021 and May 27, 2022, at Perth-Andover. Durepos was released on an undertaking until his next court appearance.
Returning for plea
Anthony Veysey, 51, of Pembroke, appeared in provincial court on June 17 for plea on three firearm charges laid by RCMP. The matter was adjourned until July 8 at 9:30 a.m. at the request of his defence counsel.
Veysey appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 24 for a bail hearing and was released with conditions.
RCMP charged him with unauthorized possession of a loaded firearm, careless use of a firearm, and possession of a gun for a dangerous purpose, following an incident in Pembroke on the Easter weekend.
Warrant issued
The court issued an arrest warrant for Earl James Demerchant, 35, of Woodstock, after he failed to appear in provincial court on June 17 for plea on charges laid by Woodstock Police.
Demerchant appeared in provincial court in custody by video for a bail hearing on March 10 and was released with conditions. Woodstock Police charged him with breaching his release order for an incident on March 8.
Woodstock Police also charged Demerchant with assaulting police, resisting arrest and breach of probation following an incident on Jan. 12 in Woodstock. RCMP also charged him with breach of probation for an incident on Nov. 3, 2024, in Waterville.
Sentencing set on flight charge
David Fleming, 19, of Plaster Rock, appeared in provincial court on June 17 and pleaded guilty to one flight charge laid by the RCMP. His sentencing date was scheduled for Sept. 23 at 1:30 p.m.
Fleming was charged with two counts of fleeing police on Feb. 15 in Beaconsfield and in Aroostook. The crown withdrew one charge.
Coldstream man to stand trial
Damian Oakes, 26, of Coldstream, appeared in provincial court on June 17 and pleaded not guilty to two charges laid by the RCMP. His trial date was booked for Aug. 10, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.
Oakes was charged with uttering threats and unlawful entry at a dwelling house in connection with an incident on Dec. 2, 2024, at Coldstream.
He also appeared in provincial court on March 4 and pleaded not guilty to three other charges laid by the RCMP. Trial dates were set for April 10, 2026, and April 13, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.
Oakes was charged with indictable sexual assault, touching for a sexual purpose, and using a weapon to commit an assault (a lighter) in connection with an incident between Jan. 1, 2017 and Dec. 13, 2021. A pre-trial conference will be held on Oct. 16 at 9:30 a.m.
Plea adjourned
Gabriel John Tomah, 21, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared in provincial court on June 17 for plea on several charges laid by RCMP. The matter was adjourned until July 15 at 9:30 a.m. at the request of his defence counsel.
RCMP charged Tomah with sexual assault, assault causing bodily harm, pointing a firearm at another person, and possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence. He appeared in court in custody on May 7 for a bail hearing and was released with conditions, including the requirement to wear an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle.
Trial dates in July
Matthew Gregory Parker, 40, of Aroostook, will appear in provincial court on June 18 at 1:30 p.m. for a hearing before his trial next month. He pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, and trial dates were set for July 3, 2025, at 1:30 p.m., July 7, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. and July 9, 2025, at 1:30 p.m.
Parker was charged with assault involving a female victim, mischief causing property damage to a vehicle, resisting arrest on June 30 at Florenceville-Bristol, and breaking into a dwelling house and three counts of breaching an undertaking for another incident on Aug. 11 at Florenceville-Bristol.
He appeared in court in custody on Aug. 9, 2024, and was released with conditions.
Hartland man changes plea
Dylan Rideout, 26, of Hartland, appeared for trial in provincial court on June 16 and changed his plea to guilty on charges laid by the RCMP. His sentencing date was set for Sept. 9 at 1:30 p.m.
Rideout was charged with uttering threats involving a female victim, possession of a firearm without a licence and careless use of a firearm (a shotgun) concerning an incident on Aug. 9, 2024, at Cloverdale.
He also appeared in provincial court on March 18 and pleaded not guilty to two other threat charges. His trial date was set for March 20, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.
Alternative measures not completed
Rachel Sockabasin, 40, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared in provincial court on June 17 in custody after being arrested on a warrant on charges in Edmundston.
She was in court in Woodstock for monitoring about her efforts with the alternative measures program. The court heard she did not complete the program requirements, and as a result, her charges were rescheduled for trial on July 20, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.
Sockabasin was charged by RCMP with breach of an undertaking, breach of probation and three counts of theft concerning incidents on Feb. 12, Aug. 11, 2023, and Dec. 22, 2023, at the Ultramar in Carlingford. She pleaded not guilty. A monitoring date for her trial was set for Sept. 2 at 9:30 a.m.
In custody for trial, sentencing
Brandon Levesque, 26, of Gordonsville, will appear in provincial court in custody on June 20 at 9:30 a.m. for the continuation of his trial after pleading not guilty to charges laid by RCMP. The first part of his trial was held on June 13.
Levesque was charged by RCMP with breaking into a dwelling house and mischief causing property damage to a door on July 30, 2024, in Plaster Rock and assault with a weapon (a rock) involving a female victim on July 28, 2024, in Plaster Rock.
His trial for the alleged break-in will continue on June 20 at 9:30 a.m. He received a directed verdict of not guilty for the assault with the rock on June 11 because the crown called no evidence. The crown withdrew another breach charge for an incident on Nov. 7, 2024.
RCMP also charged Levesque with breaching his release order (curfew), assault involving a female victim, assault by choking, and assaulting a police officer in connection with an incident on Oct. 11, 2024, in Gordonsville. He pleaded guilty to the curfew breach and assaulting police. His sentencing date was set for June 20 at 9:30 a.m.
Levesque appeared in court in custody on Nov. 12, 2024, for a bail hearing and waived his bail until later. He was arrested in October and released with conditions, including house arrest and wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle, but was brought back into custody.
Neqotkuk man awaiting trial
Brock Vollmar, 48, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), was scheduled to appear in provincial court on June 17 for monitoring about his trial on an assault charge laid by RCMP. He failed to appear, and a warrant will be held on file.
Vollmar was charged with assault involving a female victim for an incident on May 6, 2024, at Neqotkuk. He pleaded not guilty, and his trial date was set for July 14 at 9:30 a.m. His legal counsel was present on Tuesday to confirm that the defence will be ready to proceed.
Charged with fleeing police
Olivia Annette Young, 32, of Woodstock, will appear in provincial court on July 8 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on one charge laid by Woodstock Police. She was scheduled for plea on June 17 when the matter was adjourned to allow her more time to consult a lawyer.
Young was charged with fleeing police, stemming from an incident on Aug. 17, 2024, in Woodstock.
She appeared in provincial court on April 29 and pleaded not guilty to two other charges laid by Woodstock Police. Her trial was set for Aug. 25 at 1:30 p.m.
Young was charged with flight from police and dangerous driving concerning an incident on Sept. 13, 2024, in Woodstock. She is also awaiting trial on Aug. 25 at 1:30 p.m. in relation to a charge of breaching her curfew.
Trial date in August
Kyle Carter, 30, of Moncton, formerly of Jacksontown, appeared in provincial court on June 17 via teleconference for monitoring about his trial. He informed the court he has legal counsel and will be ready to proceed to trial.
Carter’s trial will be held on Aug. 8 at 9:30 a.m. after he pleaded not guilty to one charge laid by the RCMP. RCMP charged him with break, enter and theft at a dwelling house on Route 103 in Wakefield on Aug. 21, 2019.
Awaiting plea
Shelby Paul, 28, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared in provincial court on June 17 for plea on charges laid by RCMP. The matter was adjourned until July 15 at 9:30 a.m. to allow her more time to secure legal counsel.
Paul appeared in provincial court in custody on May 28 after being arrested on a warrant. She was released with conditions.
RCMP charged Paul with assaulting another woman and breach of probation on Jan. 29 at Neqotkuk, and assault with a weapon (a phone) and breach of probation on Jan. 19 at Neqotkuk. She turned herself in to the sheriffs at the courthouse on May 28 and was released on an undertaking until her next court appearance.
