Woodstock Provincial Court: East Brighton man headed to trial on attempted murder charge

East Brighton man facing trial for attempted murder

Ozzie Trecartin Jr., 30, of East Brighton, will appear for trial in provincial court next week after pleading not guilty to serious charges laid by the RCMP.

Trecartin was charged with attempted murder, reckless discharge of a firearm at a place while a person was inside, two counts of indictable assault against another man, uttering threats, resisting arrest, possession of a firearm without a licence, and storage of multiple guns in a careless manner following an incident on July 21, 2024, at East Brighton. His trial dates were set for Oct. 16-17 and Oct. 20 at 9:30 a.m.

Trecartin appeared in provincial court in custody by video for a bail hearing on July 30, 2024, and was released from custody with conditions. He was ordered to have no firearms in his possession. He must also have no contact with the alleged victim.

Back in custody on new charges

Austin Soucy Barrett, 26, of Keswick Ridge, appeared in provincial court in custody via teleconference on Oct. 9 to answer new charges laid by Woodstock Police. He was remanded to jail to await his plea on Oct. 30 at 9:30 a.m.

Barrett was charged with two counts of mischief, causing property damage to two vehicles, theft of tools, break and enter and theft of a motor vehicle in connection with an incident in Woodstock on Oct. 2. The court heard is also facing more charges in Fredericton, including breach of a release order.

Barrett appeared in court in custody by video on Oct. 2 for a bail hearing and was released with conditions, including house arrest and a curfew. He was charged with breaking into the Valley Chainsaw Shop in Jacksonville on Sept. 16. He returns to court in custody for plea on that charge on Oct. 23 at 9:30 a.m.

Released with ankle bracelet

Ricky Hamilton, 59, of Pembroke, appeared in provincial court in custody on Oct. 10 for a bail hearing. He was released on conditions, including the requirement to wear an ankle electronic monitoring device. He returns to court for plea on Nov. 4 at 9:30 a.m.

RCMP charged Hamilton with uttering threats and improper storage of a firearm on Oct. 7 and breaching an undertaking (no contact) on Oct. 8 in Pembroke.

Accident leads to charges

Desmon Eugene Longstaff, 23, of Back Greenfield Road, appeared for trial in provincial court on Oct. 10 and changed his plea to guilty on one charge laid by Woodstock Police. His sentencing date was set for Feb. 25, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.

Longstaff pleaded guilty to impaired driving causing bodily harm stemming from an accident in Woodstock on April 19, 2024. The court heard there were three passengers in the vehicle. Two other charges of refusing a breathalyzer demand and refusing to provide a blood sample were withdrawn by the Crown.

Released after month in custody

Taranjeet Singh, 39, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody for a bail hearing on Oct. 10. He was released on conditions, including the requirement to wear an ankle electronic monitoring device. He returns to court for plea on Nov. 5 at 1:30 p.m.

Singh was charged by Woodstock Police with assault with a weapon (a knife) and uttering threats in connection with an incident on Sept. 6 and another alleged assault on Sept. 7 in Woodstock. He was ordered to have no contact with three complainants.

Bath man awaits sentencing

Michael James Watson, 30, of Bath, appeared for trial in provincial court on Oct. 9 and changed his plea to guilty on two charges laid by the RCMP. His sentencing date was set for Dec. 30 at 1:30 p.m.

Watson pleaded guilty to mischief, causing property damage to a vehicle, and dangerous driving on Nov. 5, 2023, in Bath.

He agreed to sign a 12-month peace bond in relation to another charge of assault with a weapon (a shovel). The peace bond will result in the assault charge being withdrawn. An additional charge of driving while suspended was also withdrawn by the Crown.

Neqotkuk man changes plea

Calvin Joseph Nicholas, 54, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared for trial in provincial court on Oct. 8 and changed his plea to guilty on drug charges laid by the RCMP. His sentencing date was set for Jan. 6, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.

Nicholas pleaded guilty to driving while impaired by drugs, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of hydromorphone in connection with an incident on May 30, 2024, at Neqotkuk.

Serving 90 days on Fredericton charges

Olivia Annette Young, 32, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Oct. 9 and entered a guilty plea to three charges laid by the RCMP.  Her sentencing date was scheduled for Oct. 23 at 1:30 p.m.

Young told the court she was currently serving a 90-day sentence on other charges in Fredericton. She appeared in court in custody via teleconference from Oromocto on Sept. 25 after being arrested on a warrant.

Young pleaded guilty to flight from police and dangerous driving on Sept. 13, 2024, in Woodstock. She also pleaded guilty to breach of a release order (house arrest) on April 24, 2024, in Woodstock.

Fredericton man has two charges

Jeremy William Graves, 31, of Fredericton, will appear in provincial court on Oct. 21 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on two charges laid by Woodstock Police. He was scheduled to enter a plea on Oct. 8 when the matter was adjourned to the new date.

Graves was charged with uttering threats and assaulting another man following an incident on April 10 in Woodstock.

Guilty of making threats

Jace Maddox Anderson, 20, of Woodstock, appeared for trial in provincial court on Oct. 8 and changed his plea to guilty on one charge laid by Woodstock Police. His sentencing date was set for Dec. 30 at 1:30 p.m.

Anderson was charged with uttering threats and breach of a no-contact order following an incident on July 1, 2024, in Woodstock. He pleaded guilty to the threats, and the Crown withdrew the breach charge.

Coldstream man awaiting trial

Damian Oakes, 26, of Coldstream, will appear for trial in provincial court on April 10 and April 13, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to charges laid by the RCMP.

Oakes was charged with uttering threats and unlawful entry at a dwelling house in connection with an incident on Dec. 2, 2024, at Coldstream.

Oakes was also charged with indictable sexual assault, touching for a sexual purpose, and using a weapon to commit an assault (a lighter) in connection with an incident between Jan. 1, 2017 and Dec. 13, 2021. A pre-trial conference will be held on Oct. 21at 9:30 a.m.

Plea pending for Johnville man

Cole Paul Smith, 30, of Johnville, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on Oct. 9 to answer multiple charges laid by the RCMP. His plea was adjourned until Oct. 14 at 1:30 p.m. at the request of his defence counsel.

Smith was arrested on a warrant on June 30. The RCMP charged him with breaching a release order by violating electronic monitoring and mischief, causing damage to his ankle bracelet, following an incident on June 24 at Mapledale. He was also charged with flight from police, breaching his house arrest and dangerous driving for an incident on June 29 at East Brighton.

Smith appeared in provincial court in custody by video for a bail hearing on May 1 and was released with conditions, but later returned to custody. He faces an additional charge of breaching a no-contact order on May 29.

Woodstock Police also charged him with assault with a weapon (a metal stool) and two counts of uttering threats on April 10-11 in Woodstock.

RCMP charged him with assault involving a female victim, unlawful confinement, and two counts of uttering threats concerning another incident between Nov. 15 and Nov. 30, 2024, in Johnville. He was ordered to have no contact with the complainants.

Smith also appeared in provincial court on April 8 and pleaded not guilty to three other charges laid by the RCMP. His trial date was set for March 30, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. He was charged with uttering threats, assault by choking and unlawful entry at a dwelling house on Oct. 22, 2024, at Johnville. The court heard his trial date will have to be moved up since he remains in custody.

Trial adjourned to April

Jeffrey Richard Bull, 45, of Newburg, appeared in provincial court on Oct. 8 for a monitoring hearing related to two charges laid by Woodstock Police. His trial was rescheduled for April 13, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

Bull was charged with aggravated assault and breach of probation concerning an incident on Sept. 8, 2024, at 2 a.m., when a man suffered a broken elbow after being struck by a bat on St. James Street in Woodstock.

RCMP also charged Bull with breaking into a dwelling house and breach of probation stemming from an incident on March 16 at Bulls Creek. He pleaded not guilty.

He appeared in provincial court in custody by video for a bail hearing on March 27 and was released with conditions.

Returning for plea

Jerod Nowlan, 40, of Rosedale, will appear in provincial court on Nov. 4 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on two charges laid by Woodstock Police.

Nowlan was charged with flight from police and fraud for an incident in Woodstock. He appeared in provincial court on Oct. 8 when the matter was adjourned to the new date.

Sentencing in December

Bronson Paul of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation) appeared for trial in provincial court on Oct. 9 and changed his plea to guilty on one charge laid by the RCMP. His sentencing date was booked for Dec. 23, at 1:30 p.m.

Paul was charged with assaulting police and resisting arrest in connection with an incident on May 10, 2024, at Neqotkuk. He pleaded guilty to resisting arrest, and the Crown withdrew the assault charge.

In custody awaiting plea

Kyrin Moulton, 20, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared in provincial court in custody by video on Oct. 9 to answer charges laid by the RCMP.

Moulton was charged with unlawful entry at a dwelling house, breach of probation, uttering threats, and unauthorized possession of a firearm for an incident in Perth-Andover. He returns to court in custody for plea on Oct. 23 at 9:30 a.m.

Charges to be transferred

Rachel Sockabasin, 40, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared in provincial court on Oct. 9 for a monitoring hearing on charges laid by the RCMP.

The court heard that other charges are to be transferred from Edmundston, so another monitoring hearing was scheduled for Jan. 27, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.

RCMP charged Sockabasin with breaching her release order concerning an incident on Sept. 4 at Perth-Andover. She pleaded not guilty, and a trial date was set for July 20, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.

She was also charged with breach of an undertaking, breach of probation, and three counts of theft, stemming from incidents on Feb. 12, Aug. 11, 2023, and Dec. 22, 2023, at the Ultramar in Carlingford. She pleaded not guilty, and her trial was scheduled for July 26, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.

Sockabasin appeared in provincial court in custody by video for a bail hearing on Sept. 11 and was released with conditions.
