Woodstock Provincial Court: Man changes plea to guilty in child porn case

Sentencing set for possession of child pornography

Corey Dean Bartlett, 56, of Perth-Andover, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Nov. 12 and changed his plea to guilty on a charge of possession of child pornography. His sentencing date was set for Dec. 16 at 1:30 p.m.

Bartlett was charged by the RCMP in connection with an incident on Feb. 7, 2017, at Tobique Narrows. He appeared in court in custody for a bail hearing on Sept. 4 and waived his bail until later. His trial date was vacated after he entered a guilty plea.

Guilty plea for break-in

Nicholas Adam Cullins, 43, of Ashland, appeared for trial in provincial court on Nov. 12 and changed his plea to guilty on a break and enter charge laid by Woodstock Police. His sentencing date was booked for Feb. 10, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.

Cullins was charged with breaking and entering and theft at a storage facility on Poplar Street in Woodstock on March 15, 2023. He was released with conditions pending his sentencing hearing and must adhere to a curfew.

Sentencing on multiple charges

Loic Boulay, 22, of Oromocto, appeared for trial in provincial court in custody on Nov. 12 and changed his plea to guilty on three charges laid by the Woodstock Police. His sentencing date was scheduled for Dec. 1 at 1:30 p.m.

Boulay pleaded guilty to breaching an undertaking (no-contact) and assault involving a female victim between July 4 and July 15 near Northampton and Woodstock. He also pleaded guilty to uttering threats on July 15 in Northampton. The Crown withdrew two other charges.

He also appeared for trial in provincial court in custody on Oct. 30 and changed his plea to guilty on two other charges laid by Woodstock Police. His sentencing date was set for Dec. 1 at 1:30 p.m.

Boulay pleaded guilty to breaching a no-contact order and unlawful entry at a dwelling house on St. John Street on May 25 in Woodstock. The Crown withdrew another charge of mischief. He had no prior criminal record. Boulay was denied bail on July 28.

Nabbed for impaired driving

Gracie Shaw, 18, of Woodstock, appeared for trial in provincial court on Nov. 14 and changed her plea to guilty on an impaired driving charge. Her sentencing date was set for Feb. 17, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.

The Woodstock Police charged Shaw following an incident on July 7, 2024, in Woodstock.

Not-guilty verdict

Arthur Thibodeau of Lower Brighton was found not guilty after trial when he appeared in provincial court for a verdict on Nov. 14.

Thibodeau pleaded not guilty to uttering threats and assault with a golf club concerning an incident on July 21, 2024, at Lower Brighton. The two-day trial concluded on Friday when Judge Melanie Poirier-LeBlanc rendered her decision.

The court heard about an alleged altercation with Thibodeau’s brother, who lives next door. The two men were reportedly involved in a three-year property dispute.

Sentencing for boat incident

Douglas Thomas Defazio, 36, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court on Nov. 12 for sentencing after pleading guilty to one charge laid by Woodstock Police. His sentencing was adjourned until Dec. 4 at 1 p.m.

Defazio was released with conditions following a bail hearing on Aug. 22 and was ordered to enter rehab. He was arrested by Woodstock Police shortly after a stolen boat crashed on the rocks of the Meduxnekeag River on July 10, where the vessel was abandoned and the suspect swam to shore.

Defazio was charged with two counts of breaking and entering a dwelling house, mischief causing property damage, and breach of probation in connection with break-ins at two different residences on Grant Street and Houlton Street on July 10. He pleaded guilty to unlawful entry at a dwelling house during his court appearance on Sept. 22.

Trial date booked

David Joseph Sisson, 42, of Rosedale, will appear for trial in provincial court on Dec. 16, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to charges laid by Woodstock Police. His trial date was confirmed at his court appearance on Nov. 13.

Sisson was charged with refusing a breathalyzer, resisting arrest, and breach of a release order in connection with an incident on Oct. 18 in Woodstock. He was also charged by the RCMP with breaching a release order (no-contact) in connection with an incident on June 7 at Florenceville-Bristol. Sisson has a prior criminal record.

He appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Oct. 23 and was sentenced to 14 days in jail for breaching his house arrest and was later released.

Agreed to peace bond

Bradley Tyler Whitney, 42, of Moncton, formerly of Newbridge, appeared for trial in provincial court on Nov. 13 after pleading not guilty to charges laid by Woodstock Police. He agreed to sign a peace bond for 12 months, and the trial did not proceed.

Whitney pleaded not guilty to assaulting a female victim, uttering threats and breach of probation on Aug. 24, 2024, in Woodstock; and not guilty to assault with a weapon (a torch) involving a female victim between July 1-28, 2024, in Woodstock. The Crown withdrew the assault with a weapon charge. The peace bond will also result in the withdrawal of the remaining charges.

Gordonsville man awaits sentencing

Clayton Giberson, 64, of Gordonsville, appeared for trial in provincial court on Nov. 14 and changed his plea to guilty on two charges laid by the RCMP. His sentencing date was set for Dec. 9 at 1:30 p.m.

RCMP charged Giberson with assaulting another man and mischief, causing property damage to a truck, for an incident on Nov. 24, 2024, in Gordonsville.

Trail date vacated

Margaret King, 59, of Kilburn, appeared in provincial court on Nov. 13 and agreed to sign a peace bond for 12 months on two charges laid by the RCMP. Her trial booked for next May was cancelled.

King was charged with assault with a weapon (a broken hot plate) and assault causing bodily harm to a male victim following an incident on Feb. 12 at Kilburn. She pleaded not guilty and was released on an undertaking. The peace bond will result in the charges being withdrawn.

New trial date

Carvell Weston, 57, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court on Nov. 12 to set a new date for his trial. He pleaded not guilty to an impaired driving charge, and his trial was rescheduled for Feb. 9, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

The Woodstock Police charged Weston in connection with an incident that occurred on June 11, 2024, in Woodstock.

In custody awaiting sentencing

Kyrin Moulton, 20, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared in provincial court in custody by video on Nov. 13 and changed his plea to guilty on charges laid by the RCMP. His sentencing was scheduled for Dec. 23 at 1:30 p.m.

Moulton pleaded guilty to uttering threats against another man and breach of probation on Sept. 8 in Perth-Andover; guilty to breach of probation on Sept. 17 at Perth-Andover; and guilty to unlawful entry at a dwelling house on Sept. 25 in Perth-Andover. The Crown withdrew another charge of possession of a prohibited weapon (brass knuckles).

Incident in Debec

Delta Foster, 28, of Woodstock, appeared for trial in provincial court on Nov. 12 after pleading not guilty to three charges laid by the RCMP. She agreed to sign a peace bond for 12 months, and the trial did not proceed.

Foster was charged with two counts of uttering threats and mischief, causing property damage to a TV, concerning an incident in Debec on Aug. 5, 2024. The Crown withdrew the mischief charge and one threat charge. The peace bond will result in the remaining threat charge being withdrawn.

Released with conditions

Ronald Dwayne Scott, 30, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody via video for a bail hearing on Nov. 14. He was released with conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle.

Scott was charged by Woodstock Police with assault, committing mischief, and three counts of uttering threats following an alleged altercation on Aug. 8. He pleaded not guilty, and his trial date was set for Dec. 14, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

Scott was sentenced to 127 days in jail in August for breaching his house arrest. He completed his sentence before being released from custody.

Trial reset on firearm charges

Brandon Chappell, 28, of Plaster Rock, will appear for trial in provincial court on Dec. 5 at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to four charges laid by the RCMP. The new trial date was confirmed on Nov. 12 in the presence of his defence counsel.

Chappell appeared in provincial court in custody in January and was released with conditions. He was charged with pointing a firearm at another person, uttering threats, possession of several guns without a licence, and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace in connection with an incident on June 15, 2024, at Plaster Rock. The court heard that a resolution is being sought with the Crown.

Bail hearing adjourned

Rachel Sockabasin, 40, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Nov. 13 for a bail hearing. The hearing was adjourned until Nov. 17 at 1:30 p.m. at the request of her defence counsel.

RCMP charged Sockabasin with breaching her release order concerning an incident on Sept. 4 at Perth-Andover. She pleaded not guilty, and a trial date was set for July 20, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.

She was also charged with breach of an undertaking, breach of probation, and three counts of theft concerning incidents on Feb. 12, Aug. 11, 2023, and Dec. 22, 2023, at the Ultramar in Carlingford. She pleaded not guilty, and her trial was scheduled for July 26, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.

Sockabasin appeared in provincial court in custody via video for a bail hearing on Sept. 11 and was released with conditions, but returned to custody. The court heard that other charges are being transferred from Edmundston.

Change of plea

Brock Perley of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation) appeared for trial in provincial court on Nov. 13 and changed his plea to guilty on an assault charge laid by the RCMP. His sentencing date was booked for Feb. 17, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.

Perley was charged with uttering threats and assaulting another man in connection with an incident on Aug. 2, 2023, at a residence in Lower Knoxford. The Crown withdrew the threat charge. The court heard the victim was struck in the face and kicked.

Neqotkuk men plead guilty

Morgan Nicholas, 28, and Brandon Michael Francis, 30, both of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared for trial in provincial court on Nov. 13 and changed their pleas to guilty on several charges laid by the RCMP.

Francis appeared in court in custody. Nicholas was released with conditions after a bail hearing in September. Francis will be sentenced on Dec. 24 at 9:30 a.m. A sentencing date for Nicholas was scheduled for Feb. 10, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.

Nicholas pleaded guilty to failing to attend court and assault causing bodily harm to a correctional officer on Jan. 21, 2024, at Madawaska. He also pleaded guilty to theft from a gas bar on May 25 in Perth-Andover, and two counts of breaching his house arrest on June 3 and Sept. 9 at Neqotkuk. 

Nicholas and Francis were both charged with breaking into a dwelling house, mischief, causing property damage to a door and window, uttering threats, and assaulting another man with a wooden two-by-four in connection with an incident on April 29 at Neqotkuk. 

The Crown withdrew the charges against Nicholas for that incident. Francis pleaded guilty to the mischief charge, breach of probation, and resisting arrest. The remaining charges against him were withdrawn.

Francis also pleaded guilty to breaching his release order by violating the conditions of electronic monitoring and mischief, causing damage to his ankle bracelet on May 1 in Perth-Andover, and breaching his house arrest on May 8 at Perth-Andover. He was denied bail on Aug. 19.
