Three people face numerous criminal charges after a vehicle almost hit a Woodstock Police Force officer, rammed a police cruiser and fled from a traffic stop.

On Feb. 25, at approximately 1:06 am, members of Woodstock Police Force (WPF) attempted to stop a red Ford Explorer SUV on Connell Street. The vehicle failed to stop, before temporarily losing control and coming to a stop in the middle of the roadway.

“WPF members approached the suspect vehicle and attempted to detain the occupants – driver and front seat passenger. The female passenger was removed from the vehicle, but the male driver resisted, got back into the drivers’ seat and intentionally drove forward, colliding with the marked police vehicle, causing damage,” a police news release said. “The suspect vehicle then fled the scene, narrowly missing one of the officers. The female passenger was arrested for an outstanding warrant of arrest and transported to the police station for processing. A bag containing a large quantity of suspected controlled drugs was located at the scene and seized for further investigation.”

Later on Feb. 25 police received information about the location of the SUV in Hartford, NB. Two persons were arrested on scene, one being the suspected driver of the initial flight from police.

Two people were released on conditions with upcoming court dates. One person, a federal offender, was arrested on a Canada-wide warrant and returned to prison. Due to the ongoing investigation and pending further criminal charges, the names of those involved are not being released, the release said..

“Fleeing from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, including drug possession for the purpose of trafficking are serious criminal offences, which put the safety of our community and police officers at risk,” the release said. “Woodstock Police Force is asking anyone who may have information that may assist our investigation, to please call 1-506-325-4601.
