Woodstock Provincial Court: Multiple trial dates for slew of charges

Jacksonville man has numerous court dates

Timothy Brian Wheelan, 39, of Jacksonville, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on March 25 to set new dates for his trial after pleading not guilty to several charges. He returns to court in custody for trial on June 15 at 9:30 a.m., June 18 at 1:30 p.m. and July 10 at 9:30 a.m.

Wheelan was denied bail on Nov. 20, 2025. He was charged by the RCMP with breach of a peace bond, possession of a stolen utility trailer, resisting arrest, dangerous driving, and flight from police on Nov. 17, 2025, in Meductic.

He is also facing a threat charge on April 10, 2025, and two threat charges and breach of a peace bond on Aug. 12, 2025, in Woodstock, and breach of an undertaking on Sept. 23, 2025.

On March 25, Wheelan agreed to sign a 12-month peace bond on another threat charge laid in relation to an incident on March 17, 2025, in Jacksonville. The peace bond will result in that charge being withdrawn.

Wheelan and co-accused, Samuel Robert Crewe, 31, will appear for trial in provincial court later this summer after pleading not guilty to drug and gun charges laid by local police. Their trial dates were set for July 27 at 9:30 a.m., Aug. 10 and Aug. 13 at 9:30 a.m., and Nov. 13 at 9:30 a.m.  A pre-trial conference was booked for Aug. 7.

The RCMP charged the two men with possession of methamphetamine, ecstasy, cocaine and fentanyl, all for the purpose of trafficking in connection with incidents between June 1 and June 13, 2025, in Jacksonville.

Wheelan also pleaded not guilty to 42 related gun charges laid by Woodstock Police. Crewe pleaded not guilty to 13 gun charges related to the same incident in June 2025.

Crewe was sentenced to three years in federal prison, minus time served, when he appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Jan. 26. He pleaded guilty to a raft of drug and theft charges, as well as driving offences, laid by Woodstock Police and the RCMP.  He had a prior criminal record.

Upper Kent pair charged with child abuse

Two individuals from Upper Kent appeared in provincial court on March 24 to answer charges of child abuse laid by the RCMP.

Kathy Ruest-Sooley, 30, and Ricky Sooley, 65, both face eight charges, including unlawful abandonment, failing to provide the necessities of life, criminal negligence, assault, assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, administering a noxious substance and unlawful confinement. The charges were laid in connection with a series of incidents between Sept. 1, 2024 and Sept. 19, 2025.

Judge Rose Campbell adjourned the matter to allow each accused to obtain legal counsel. Kathy Ruest-Sooley returns to court for plea on April 21 at 9:30 a.m. Ricky Sooley will enter a plea on May 5 at 9:30 a.m.

Group charged in incident

Three men from Upper Kent have been charged in the same incident involving an alleged altercation with another man. They appeared in court on March 24.

Everett Hartley, 42, Dawson Grant, 18, and Connor Grant, 20, were charged by the RCMP following an incident on Nov. 30, 2025, at Upper Kent.

A male youth was also charged but cannot be named because of his age.

Hartley was charged with assault and mischief, causing property damage to a vehicle.

Connor Grant was charged with assault, possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence (a baseball bat), and mischief causing property damage to a vehicle.

Dawson Grant and the youth were charged with mischief, causing property damage to a vehicle.

Hartley and the two Grant men return to court for plea on April 21 at 9:30 a.m. The male youth will appear in court on May 6 at 9:30 a.m. for plea.

Kincardine woman charged

Brittney Pollock, 28, of Kincardine, will appear in provincial court on April 21 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on an assault charge.

Pollock was charged with assault with a weapon (a knife) involving a male victim in connection with an incident on Jan. 9 at Kincardine. She made her first court appearance on March 24 when the matter was adjourned to the new date.

In custody for plea

Jason Davenport, 46, of Upper Kintore, will appear in provincial court in custody for plea on April 2 at 9:30 a.m. on two charges laid by Woodstock Police.

Davenport was arrested on March 16 and charged with breach of an undertaking and indictable mischief. He was remanded after a bail hearing on March 19.

In custody awaiting sentencing

Nicholas Hamilton, 31, of Richmond Corner, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on March 25 and pleaded guilty to six charges laid by the RCMP. His sentencing was set for May 19 at 1:30 p.m.

Hamilton pleaded guilty to flight from police, dangerous driving, possession of a firearm while prohibited from having it, possession of a firearm without a licence (a shotgun and rifle), driving while suspended, and transporting firearms in a careless manner. Another firearm charge was withdrawn by the Crown.

The charges were laid following a police chase on Jan. 13 in Lindsay, during which a spike belt was used to stop a speeding half-ton truck. Hamilton was denied bail on Jan. 15.

Sentencing on four charges

Henry Douglas Oakes, 56, of Fredericton, formerly of Greenfield, will appear in provincial court for sentencing on April 21 at 1:30 p.m. after pleading guilty to four charges laid by Woodstock Police and RCMP.

Oakes was denied bail when he appeared in provincial court in custody via video on March 6. He entered his guilty plea at a court appearance on March 25. The court heard he is expected to receive a sentence of time served.

Oakes pleaded guilty to failing to appear for trial on Jan. 7; impaired driving on Aug. 6, 2024, in Woodstock; theft from the Superstore on July 12, 2024, in Woodstock; and breaching an undertaking (no driving) on May 15, 2024, at Florenceville-Bristol. He has a prior criminal record.

Sentencing adjourned

Austin Powers, 26, of Beaconsfield, will appear in provincial court on April 1 at 1:30 p.m. for sentencing on four charges laid by the RCMP. He was scheduled for sentencing on March 26, when the matter was adjourned to the new date.

Powers appeared in court in custody via teleconference on March 11 after being arrested on a warrant for failing to appear for sentencing on Feb. 3. He pleaded guilty to several charges and was released with conditions, but did not return to court.

Powers was denied bail on June 6, 2025. He was charged with two counts of breaching a recognizance on May 15 and May 20, 2025, at Plaster Rock; assault while threatening to use a weapon (a wooden mallet), assault involving a female victim, two counts of uttering threats, breaching an order not to have weapons in his possession on May 21, 2025, at Plaster Rock; and resisting arrest and uttering threats to police on May 23, 2025, at Plaster Rock.

Powers has a prior criminal record and spent several months in custody.

He pleaded guilty to both counts of breaching a recognizance, resisting arrest and uttering threats to police. He agreed to sign a 12-month peace bond on the assault charges. The remaining charges will be withdrawn by the Crown. A sentence of time served was expected for the accused.

Woodstock man awaits verdict

Patrick Rattray, 30, of Woodstock, appeared for trial in provincial court this week after pleading not guilty to charges laid by Woodstock Police. After a full day of testimony on March 26 and closing submissions on March 27, Judge Rose Campbell adjourned her decision on a verdict until May 4 at 9:30 a.m.

Rattray was charged with assault causing bodily harm involving a female victim, and assault by choking in connection with an incident between Jan. 1 and Feb. 9, 2024, in Woodstock. Two other charges were withdrawn by the Crown.

He was also charged by Woodstock Police with breaching a peace bond, uttering threats, and committing mischief in connection with an incident on Oct. 9, 2024, in Woodstock. The Crown withdrew an assault charge. During the trial, Rattray admitted to committing mischief and breaching the peace bond.

During closing submissions by Crown Prosecutor Heather McIntosh and Defence Counsel James Giacomantonio, the court heard details of a domestic dispute. A video was included in the evidence.

Facing sex charge

Henry Bloodsworth, 59, of Beechwood, will appear in provincial court on May 5 at 9:30 a.m. to enter a plea on a sex charge laid by the RCMP.

Bloodsworth was charged with sexual assault in connection with an incident on Nov. 15, 2025, at Upper Kent. He was scheduled to enter a plea on March 25 when the matter was adjourned at the request of his defence counsel. The court heard that a resolution is being sought with the Crown.

Returning for plea

Christian Cioc, 57, of Woodstock, will appear in provincial court on May 5 at 9:30 a.m. to answer three charges laid by Woodstock Police.

Cioc was charged with two counts of criminal harassment between Aug. 8, 2025 and Jan. 8, 2026, and stalking a female person between Oct. 18, 2025, and Jan. 26, 2026, in Woodstock.

He was scheduled to enter a plea on March 25 when the matter was adjourned to the new date at the request of his defence counsel. The court heard that a resolution is being sought with the Crown.

Trial confirmed for April

Paul Allingham, 48, of Enterprise in Victoria County, will appear for trial in provincial court on April 8 at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to an assault charge.

Allingham was charged with assaulting another man in connection with an incident on Sept. 17, 2024, near Plaster Rock. On March 25, Defence Counsel Tim Dubé confirmed his client will be ready to proceed to trial.

Not-guilty verdict

Shawn Carmichael, 63, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared for trial in provincial court on March 25 after pleading not guilty to two charges laid by the RCMP.  He received a directed verdict of not guilty on both counts after the Crown called no evidence.

Carmichael was charged with assault involving a female victim and assault with a weapon in relation to an incident on Oct. 4, 2024, at Neqotkuk. He was released on an undertaking until his trial.

Trial date set

Robin Sappier, 47, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), will appear for trial in provincial court on April 22, 2027, at 1:30 p.m. after pleading not guilty to an assault charge laid by the RCMP.

Sappier was charged with assaulting a male victim on Aug. 28, 2025, at Neqotkuk. Her trial date was set at a court appearance on March 26.

Released with conditions

Ashley Marie Bernard, 39, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared in provincial court in custody via video for a bail hearing on March 26 and was released with conditions. She returns to court for plea on April 22 at 9:30 a.m.

Bernard was charged with breaching a release order (house arrest) concerning an incident on March 24 in Perth-Andover.

She also appeared for trial in provincial court on Feb. 23 and changed her pleaded guilty to three other charges laid by the RCMP. Her sentencing date was set for April 22 at 9:30 a.m.

Bernard was charged with theft, breach of probation, and breach of her release order (curfew) on Nov. 17, 2025, in Perth-Andover.
