Four days of music, heritage, and Highland games set to draw families from across the region
Organizers of the 25th Annual Gathering of the Scots in Perth-Andover see it as the true moment of summer’s return to the shores of the Saint John River.
The celebration of Celtic culture has excited area residents and attracted thousands to the community for Scottish-themed activities, entertainment, and the enjoyment of food, beverages, and traditions.
Amy MacIntosh, the Vice Chair of Gathering of the Scots, says one of the most exciting things this year is the expanded live medieval jousting tournament.
“It is planned to be bigger than ever, with more action and excitement, and it truly adds a unique, high-energy element to the day that is unlike anything you can see in New Brunswick,” said MacIntosh.
The Gathering of the Scots Festival, hosted by the small rural New Brunswick community, has garnered an international reputation.
During the four-day celebration from June 4 to 7, visitors can enjoy a wide variety of events, performances, and activities, with the focus on a full day of exciting events on Saturday, June 6.
Saturday will feature whisky tasting, pipe bands, heavyweight competitions, a clan march, rugby and archery demonstrations, workshops, tug-of-war, drumming, a Ceilidh, Highland Dancing, kids’ activities, fly casting, and an air force flyby.
“There is so much to look forward to, but the atmosphere is always what stands out the most,” said MacIntosh
The long list of festival events kicks off a week before the festival with special dinners and events. Watch the gatheringofthescots.com website for their schedule and event details.
The event was founded by Rod MacIntosh and the Clan MacIntosh. The event has supporters who visit the village of Southern Victoria from across North America.
Admission is $15 for adults, $5 for students, and free for children under 12.
“It is an accessible, family-friendly event with something for everyone,” said MacIntosh.
