Woodstock Provincial Court: Decision on drug trafficking case set for July

Drug trafficking trial adjourned for decision

Justin Ryan Shea, 36, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court on April 20 for the continuation of his trial on two drug trafficking charges laid by Woodstock Police. The trial concluded, and Judge Rose Campbell reserved her decision until July 2 at 9:30 a.m.

Shea pleaded not guilty to trafficking in methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking in connection with incidents in Woodstock on June 30 and May 2, 2024.

He was also charged with breaking and entering and theft at a dwelling house on Creighton Street on Sept. 26, 2024, and with breaching an undertaking (curfew) on Aug. 14, 2025.

Shea pleaded guilty to the lesser offences, including possession of stolen property and a curfew breach. A date for his sentencing will be set when he returns to court in July.

Hefty fines and time served

Henry Douglas Oakes, 56, of Fredericton, formerly of Greenfield, was sentenced to 75 days in jail or time served when he appeared in provincial court in custody on April 21.

Oakes pleaded guilty to failing to appear for trial on Jan. 7; impaired driving on Aug. 6, 2024, in Woodstock; theft of a demo phone from the Superstore on July 12, 2024, in Woodstock; and breaching an undertaking (no driving) on May 15, 2024, at Florenceville-Bristol. He had a prior criminal record.

Judge Rose Campbell fined him $2,600 for the impaired driving offence and $460 for stealing the phone. Oakes was also placed on probation for two years and was prohibited from driving for 30 months. He must also seek counselling for alcohol abuse.

Oakes was denied bail when he appeared in provincial court in custody via video on March 6. He entered his guilty plea at a court appearance on March 25.

Sentencing set on nine charges

Shane Lee Dickison, 38, of Hodgdon Road, appeared in provincial court via teleconference on April 21 and pleaded guilty to nine charges laid by the RCMP. His sentencing date was set for May 27 at 9:30 a.m.

He pleaded guilty to breach of probation, assaulting another man, two counts of uttering threats, mischief causing property damage to a vehicle, and resisting arrest on Feb. 4 at Mapledale; and guilty to uttering threats between Feb. 1 and Feb. 2 at Mapledale. A peace bond request was later filed by two complainants.  A police operation in the Mapledale area on the evening of Feb. 4 led to Dickison’s arrest.

On April 21, he also pleaded guilty to breaching probation and assaulting another man on July 27, 2025, in Woodstock.

Dickison appeared in provincial court in custody on March 6 for a bail hearing after being remanded for a 30-day mental health assessment at the Restigouche hospital. He was found fit to stand trial and was released to a rehab facility in Moncton.

Denied bail and remanded

Ryan James Smith, 37, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on April 20 and was denied bail. He was remanded to jail and will return to court for a plea on May 5 at 9:30 a.m.

Smith was charged by Woodstock Police with possession of a stolen credit card and breach of probation concerning an incident on April 14 in Woodstock.

He will also appear in provincial court on May 5 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on seven other charges laid by Woodstock Police.

Smith was charged with two counts of uttering threats, three counts of breach of probation, theft, and mischief, stemming from incidents on Oct. 20, 2025, and on Jan. 7 and Jan. 9 in Woodstock.

Sentencing in June

Johnny Lee Bloodsworth, 39, will appear in provincial court in custody via video on June 18 at 9:30 a.m. for sentencing on multiple sex charges and one count of uttering threats laid by the RCMP.  His sentencing date was set on April 20.

Judge Karen Lee found Bloodsworth guilty after trial on four counts of sexual assault and four counts of touching a female minor for a sexual purpose in connection with incidents between July 10, 2023 and Sept. 4, 2023.

Bloodsworth will only be sentenced on the four counts of touching a female minor for a sexual purpose. His conviction on the four counts of sexual assault was stayed under a legal rule preventing multiple convictions for the same criminal act. Judge Lee noted four other charges were withdrawn by the Crown before the trial. She remanded Bloodsworth to jail to await sentencing.

The judge found him not guilty of sexual assault and touching a female minor for a sexual purpose, but guilty of uttering threats between April 1, 2023 and Sept. 1, 2023. Four other charges were withdrawn by the Crown.

Bloodsworth’s lengthy trial concluded in December. He appeared in provincial court in custody by video on June 25, 2024, for a bail hearing and was released to await trial.

He pleaded not guilty to a separate charge of breaching his release order. His trial was set for July 2 at 9:30 a.m. Bloodsworth was charged by the RCMP in connection with an incident between Jan. 31 and May 30, 2025, in Arthurette.

Bloodsworth had spent 85 days in custody when he appeared for his sentencing hearing on April 15. He had a dated and limited prior criminal record. The Crown asked for a sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment.

Williamstown man pleads guilty

Christian John Shannon, 26, of Williamstown, appeared for trial in provincial court on April 20 and entered a guilty plea to two charges laid by Woodstock Police.  His sentencing date was booked for July 23 at 1:30 p.m.

Shannon pleaded guilty to breach of probation between Jan. 30 and Aug. 16, 2024, in Woodstock, and theft from Don’s Pawn Shop in Woodstock on April 30, 2024.

He agreed to sign a 12-month peace bond in relation to another charge of assaulting a female victim on Nov. 17, 2024, at Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation). The peace bond will result in that charge being withdrawn.

Returning for plea

Thompson Graham Lloyd of Canterbury appeared in provincial court on April 21 to answer to charges laid by the RCMP. The matter was adjourned for plea until May 19 at 9:30 a.m.

Lloyd was charged with flight from police and resisting arrest concerning an incident which occurred between Jan. 20 and 21 in Canterbury.

In custody awaiting trial

An Ontario man appeared in provincial court in custody via video on April 21 to answer a new charge laid by the RCMP.

Michael Frost, 56, formerly of Howard Brook, was charged with theft under $5,000 (jewellery) in connection with an incident on Dec. 27, 2025, in Florenceville-Bristol. The matter was adjourned for plea until May 5 at 1:30 p.m., when he has a monitoring hearing on other charges.

Frost pleaded not guilty to committing arson by burning a vehicle, two counts of uttering threats, three counts of resisting arrest, flight from police, and two counts of breaching an undertaking, concerning incidents on Jan. 6-7 and on Jan. 17 in Florenceville-Bristol.  His trial was booked for May 28-29, at 9:30 a.m. He was denied bail during a court appearance on Feb. 17.

Sentencing adjourned to July

Trevor Lee Crain, 50, of Killoween, appeared in provincial court on April 21 for sentencing on several charges laid by the RCMP. The sentencing was adjourned until his trial on other matters on July 8 at 9:30 a.m.

Crain was denied bail and spent five months in remand before being released from custody in August 2025 to await sentencing after changing his plea.

He pleaded guilty to one count of breaching his release order (house arrest), concerning three incidents between Jan. 30 and Feb. 7 at Beechwood.

He also pleaded guilty to possession of a prohibited weapon (brass knuckles) and breach of a release order in connection with an incident on July 1, 2024, at Killoween. Another charge of resisting arrest was withdrawn by the Crown.

Crain also pleaded guilty to possession of a stolen dirt bike on May 25, 2024, and guilty to breaching his release order by failing to appear in court on July 11, 2023.

He pleaded guilty to unlawful entry at a dwelling house and breaching an undertaking on June 15, 2023, at Moose Mountain, and committing an assault involving a female victim on June 11, 2023, at Killoween.

Crain pleaded not guilty to breaking into a residence and committing sexual assault for an incident between May 1, 2023, and May 23, 2023, at Moose Mountain and his trial was rescheduled for July 8, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

Peace bond on five charges

Christian Karnes-McQuade, 24, of Richmond Corner, appeared in provincial court on April 20 for trial on five charges laid by Woodstock Police. He agreed to sign a 12-month peace bond, and the trial was cancelled.

Karnes-McQuade was charged with assaulting a female victim, assault while threatening to use a weapon (a pocket knife), assault by choking, uttering threats, and unlawful confinement in connection with an incident between Jan. 28 and Feb. 2, 2025, in Woodstock.

He was arrested on March 27 and charged with breaching an undertaking. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released with conditions following a bail hearing. His trial on the alleged breach was booked for April 30, 2027, at 1:30 p.m.

In custody awaiting plea

Curtis Brent Hatheway, 46, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on April 21 to answer charges laid by Woodstock Police. The matter was adjourned for plea until May 7 at 9:30 a.m.

Hatheway was denied bail on April 17.  He was charged with breaching a no-contact order involving a female victim and breach of probation on April 15 in Woodstock.

He was also charged with breaching a release order (no contact) involving a female victim for an incident on April 1 in Woodstock. His plea was adjourned until May 7 at 9:30 a.m.

Hatheway was also charged with breaching a court order, assault, and uttering threats on March 17 and possession of a stolen bicycle on Oct. 3, 2025, in Woodstock. He was booked for plea on those charges on May 7 at 9:30 a.m.

Trial dates confirmed

Carly Rae Muzzerolle, 31, of Fredericton, appeared in provincial court on April 20 and pleaded not guilty to numerous charges laid by the RCMP. Her trial was scheduled for May 7 and May 14, 2027, at 9:30 a.m. A pre-trial conference will also be held on Sept. 1 at 1:30 p.m.

Muzzerolle was charged with two counts of identity theft, fraudulent impersonation, forgery, theft of mail, and possession of stolen mail for incidents which occurred between Jan. 1 and March 1, 2025, in Florenceville-Bristol.

She appeared in custody via video on March 5 for a bail hearing and was released on conditions, including a curfew and the requirement to wear an ankle monitor.

She was arrested on a warrant after failing to appear for her trial on Feb. 25 on a stolen property charge (a truck). Her trial on that charge was rebooked for May 5, 2027, at 9:30 a.m.

Muzzerolle is also awaiting trial on Sept. 16 at 9:30 a.m. and Oct. 7 at 1:30 p.m. after pleading not guilty to theft on Jan. 2, 2025, and breaching an undertaking on Aug. 22, 2025, in Woodstock. She has a dated prior criminal record.

Guilty on five charges

Earl James Demerchant, 34, of Woodstock, will appear for sentencing in provincial court on May 4 at 1:30 p.m. after pleading guilty to five charges laid by Woodstock Police.

Demerchant pleaded guilty to mischief causing property damage to a window on Main Street in Woodstock on July 8, 2025; causing a disturbance in a public place and breach of probation in connection with an incident on Nov. 5, 2025; and breach of a release order and breach of probation on Nov. 22, 2025, in Woodstock.

He appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Jan. 7 for a bail hearing and was released with conditions to enter a rehab facility in Moncton. A monitoring hearing was held on April 21. He has a prior criminal record.

Plea adjourned to next week

Jesse Colton Demerchant, 34, of Scott Siding, will appear in provincial court in custody via video on April 30 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on three charges laid by the RCMP. He appeared in court in custody via video on April 20 when the matter was adjourned.

Demerchant was denied bail when he appeared in provincial court in custody via video on April 2. He was charged with two counts of breaching a no-contact order on March 26, 2026, and June 25, 2025, in Windsor, and breaching his release order on Nov. 2, 2025, in Stickney. He had a dated prior criminal record.

Demerchant is also scheduled for trial in provincial court on Nov. 12 at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to more charges laid by the RCMP.

Demerchant was charged with breaching a no-contact order and resisting arrest on May 29, 2025, at Windsor and assault, assault with a weapon, and assault by choking involving a female victim on May 14, 2025, at Windsor. He appeared in provincial court in custody via video on June 2, 2025, for a bail hearing, was released on conditions, and later entered a rehab facility.

Group charged in same incident

Three men from Upper Kent have been charged in the same incident involving an alleged altercation with another man. They appeared in court on April 21.

Everett Hartley, 42, Dawson Grant, 18, and Connor Grant, 20, were charged by the RCMP following an incident on Nov. 30, 2025, at Upper Kent.

A male youth was also charged but cannot be named because of his age.

Hartley was charged with assault and mischief, causing property damage to a vehicle.  He pleaded not guilty, and a trial date was set for May 20, 2027, at 9:30 a.m.

Connor Grant was charged with assault, possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence (a baseball bat), and mischief causing property damage to a vehicle.

Dawson Grant was charged with mischief, causing property damage to a vehicle.

The two Grant men return to court for plea on May 12 at 9:30 a.m.

Kincardine woman charged

Brittney Pollock, 28, of Kincardine, appeared in provincial court on April 21 and pleaded not guilty to an assault charge. Her trial date was set for May 6, 2027, at 9:30 a.m.

Pollock was charged with assault with a weapon (a knife) involving a male victim in connection with an incident on Jan. 9 at Kincardine.

Charged with public mischief

Julie Anne James, 38, of Debec, will appear in provincial court on May 12 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on two charges laid by the RCMP.

James was charged with two counts of public mischief by misleading police in connection with incidents on Oct. 19, 2025, and Sept. 28, 2025. She was scheduled to enter a plea on April 21 when the matter was adjourned to allow her more time to secure legal counsel.

Holmesville woman has trial adjourned

Renee Hardy, 47, of Holmesville, appeared in provincial court via teleconference on April 21 for a monitoring hearing about her trial on two charges laid by the RCMP. Her trial was adjourned until Oct. 5 at 9:30 a.m.

Hardy pleaded not guilty to impaired driving and resisting arrest, stemming from an incident on Oct. 10, 2024, at Perth-Andover.

Trial in November

Makayla Phillips, 22, of Hartland, appeared in provincial court on April 21 for a monitoring hearing regarding her trial. She pleaded not guilty to two charges laid by the RCMP, and her trial date was set for Nov. 9 at 9:30 a.m.

Phillips was charged with uttering threats and mischief, causing property damage to a house in an incident on Jan. 24, 2025, at Richmond Settlement. Her trial was confirmed for the November date when she appeared in court on Tuesday.

Charged with theft

Rachel Sockabasin, 40, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared in provincial court on April 21 to answer a theft charge laid by Woodstock Police.

Sockabasin was charged with shoplifting at the Walmart on Dec. 27, 2025. The matter was adjourned for plea until May 12 at 9:30 a.m.

Failing to report

Kortney Boyer, 32, of Carlingford, will appear in provincial court on May 12 at 9:30 a.m. to answer a breach of probation charge.

Boyer was charged by the RCMP with failing to report between Aug. 21 and Nov. 21, 2025, at Lakeville. She made her first court appearance on April 21 when the matter was adjourned to the new date.

Decision on preliminary hearing

Patrick Harris, 40, of Hartland, and Tamara Hamilton, 30, of Woodstock, will appear in provincial court on June 18 at 11 a.m. for a decision on their preliminary hearing.

At that time, Judge Karen Lee will rule on whether there is enough evidence to send the pair to trial at the Court of King’s Bench. A decision was expected on April 20 but was adjourned to the new date.

They pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from a shooting in Mainstream in February 2025. The pair elected to have a trial by a judge alone at the Court of King’s Bench.

Harris appeared in court in custody via video on March 19, 2025, for his bail hearing and was released on conditions, including wearing an ankle electronic monitoring device. He later returned to custody.

Hamilton was released on Feb. 20, 2025, with conditions, including wearing an ankle electronic monitoring device. She was placed under house arrest with a curfew at a residence in Woodstock.

Harris was charged with possession of a firearm while prohibited (a sawed-off shotgun), discharging a firearm at a place while reckless as to whether a person was present; possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition without a licence, wearing a mask with intent to commit an offence; uttering threats against another man, breach of probation, pointing a firearm at another person, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, and being an occupant of a vehicle (a half ton truck) knowing it carried a firearm.

Hamilton was charged with possession of a firearm while prohibited (a sawed-off shotgun), possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, discharging a firearm at a place while reckless as to whether a person was present, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition without a licence, and being an occupant of a vehicle knowing it carried a firearm.

The pair was arrested by the RCMP inside a garage in Pembroke after a blue half-ton truck was spotted leaving the scene of the shooting in Mainstream on Feb. 17, 2025.
