Woodstock Provincial Court: Plaster Rock man to be sentenced May 14

Sentencing on slew of charges

Yves Levesque, 37, of Plaster Rock, appeared in provincial court in custody on May 8 for sentencing after changing his plea to guilty on a slew of charges laid by the RCMP.

After hearing submissions from both the Crown and defence counsel, Judge Rose Campbell reserved her decision on sentence until May 14 at 9:30 a.m.

Levesque pleaded guilty to assaulting a female victim on Aug. 14, 2024, at New Denmark; guilty to assault on the same female between Oct. 1 and Oct. 27, 2024, at McLaughlin, Victoria County; guilty to uttering threats and assault by choking on Oct. 28, 2024, at Perth-Andover; guilty to uttering threats, and assault by choking on Oct. 31, 2024, at McLaughlin; guilty to assault with a weapon (a helmet), uttering threats, assault causing bodily harm, and break and enter at a dwelling house on Dec. 20, 2024, at McLaughlin; guilty to break and enter and theft, and mischief causing property damage to a shed on Dec. 21, 2024, at McLaughlin; guilty to assaulting the same female victim on Nov. 22, 2024, in Grand Falls, and breach of probation on Oct. 22, 2024, in Grand Falls. Nine other charges were withdrawn by the Crown.

Further adjournment

Ozzie Jr. Trecartin, 31, of East Brighton, will appear for sentencing in provincial court on July 14 at 1:30 p.m. after changing his plea to guilty on charges laid by the RCMP.

Trecartin was scheduled for sentencing on May 6, when the matter was adjourned at the request of Defence Counsel Alex Pate, who apologized to the court for requesting another delay.

Pate said there was an ongoing issue about a firearm which was seized by police, but was a family heirloom and did not belong to the accused. He said his client wanted the gun returned to his family before the sentence was imposed.

Trecartin pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm without a licence, storage of multiple firearms in a careless manner, and resisting arrest on July 21, 2024, in East Brighton. He also pleaded guilty to impaired driving and two counts of driving while suspended on July 21, 2024, in Peel.

Other charges of attempted murder, reckless discharge of a firearm at a place while a person was inside, two counts of indictable assault against another man, and uttering threats were withdrawn by the Crown.

Trecartin appeared in provincial court by video from custody for a bail hearing on July 30, 2024, and was released on conditions. He was ordered to have no firearms in his possession.

Facing sex charges

Lyle Tibbets, 53, of Florenceville-Bristol, will appear in provincial court on May 26 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on sex charges laid by the RCMP.

Tibbets was charged with touching a minor for a sexual purpose and invitation to sexual touching between June 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024, at Mount Pleasant. He was also charged with sexual assault and touching a minor for a sexual purpose between June 30, 2024, and Nov. 7, 2025, at Mount Pleasant. He made his first appearance in provincial court on May 5 when the matter was adjourned to the new date.

Released until sentencing

Joshua Sterling Trail, 42, of Hartland, will appear for sentencing in provincial court on June 30 at 1:30 p.m. after changing his plea to guilty on two charges laid by Woodstock Police. He was released from custody on April 29, with conditions.

Trail pleaded guilty to unlawful entry at a dwelling house on Charlotte Street and committing mischief while on the property in connection with an incident between Sept. 6 and Sept. 7, 2024, in Woodstock. Several other charges were withdrawn by the Crown.

A co-accused, Dynielle Demerchant, 28, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court on May 8 to set a new trial date after pleading not guilty to similar charges related to the break-in on Charlotte Street. Her matter was adjourned to May 26 at 9:30 a.m. to allow time for a possible resolution with the Crown.

At an earlier court appearance, Demerchant also pleaded not guilty to possession of stolen property and to a probation violation stemming from a separate incident in Woodstock on Sept. 17, 2024. Her trial will be held on July 23-24, at 9:30 a.m.

Charged with impaired

Larry Scott Grant, 58, of Charlie Lake, will appear in provincial court on May 26 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on charges laid by Woodstock Police.

Grant was charged with impaired driving, refusing a breathalyzer, and driving while prohibited concerning an incident on Nov. 30 in Woodstock. He made his first court appearance on May 5 when the matter was adjourned to the new date.

Theft over $5,000

Trinity Robin Walkey, 21, of Grafton, will appear in provincial court on May 26 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on a theft charge laid by Woodstock Police.

Walkey was charged with indictable theft over $5,000 in connection with incidents that occurred between May 31, 2025, and July 18, 2025, at a store in Woodstock. She made her first court appearance on May 5 when the matter was adjourned to the new date.

Returning for plea

Dominique Smith, 28, of Woodstock, will appear in provincial court on May 26 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on one charge laid by Woodstock Police.

Smith was charged with obstructing police in connection with an incident on Jan. 30 in Woodstock. She made her first court appearance on May 5 when the matter was adjourned to the new date.

Trial continuation

Brandon Coté, 30, of no fixed address, appeared for trial in provincial court in custody on May 6 after pleading not guilty to charges laid by the RCMP. After one day of testimony, his trial was adjourned for continuation until June 12 at 9:30 a.m.

Coté was denied bail when he appeared in provincial court in custody via video on Feb. 26. He was charged with flight from police, dangerous driving, possession of a firearm without a licence (a pump-action shotgun), breach of probation, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, and possession of a firearm while prohibited from having it in connection with an incident on Feb. 16 in Florenceville-Bristol when a spike belt was used to stop a vehicle. He has a prior criminal record.

Sentencing delayed

Leah Driscoll, 45, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), will appear for sentencing in provincial court on July 7 at 1:30 p.m. after changing her plea to guilty on charges laid by the RCMP. Her sentencing was scheduled for May 7 but was adjourned to the new date at the defence’s request.

Driscoll pleaded guilty to willfully neglecting an animal (two dogs) under the SPCA Act on July 23, 2023, at Neqotkuk; guilty to resisting arrest on July 23, 2023, and April 29, 2024; and guilty to breaching a release order on April 29, 2024, and on May 26, 2024, in Woodstock. Three other charges were withdrawn by the Crown.

In custody awaiting plea

Curtis Brent Hatheway, 46, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on May 7 to answer charges laid by Woodstock Police. The matter was adjourned for plea until May 26 at 9:30 a.m.

Hatheway was denied bail on April 17.  He was charged with breaching a no-contact order involving a female victim and breach of probation on April 15 in Woodstock.

He was also charged with breaching a release order (no contact) involving a female victim for an incident on April 1 in Woodstock.

Hatheway was also charged with breaching a court order, assault, and uttering threats on March 17 and possession of a stolen bicycle on Oct. 3, 2025, in Woodstock. He was booked for plea on those charges on May 26 at 9:30 a.m.

Sentencing adjourned

Cody Orland Doherty, 39, of no fixed address, appeared for sentencing in provincial court on May 6 after changing his plea to guilty on two charges laid by the RCMP. His sentencing was adjourned until May 21 at 1:30 p.m.

Doherty was charged with committing mischief at Tim Hortons and obstructing police in connection with an incident on May 20, 2024, at Florenceville-Bristol.

Guilty plea on two charges

Bryden Till, 20, of Perth-Andover, will appear for sentencing in provincial court on June 16 at 1:30 p.m. after pleading guilty to charges laid by the RCMP.

Till pleaded guilty to uttering threats against another man on March 3, 2025, at Perth-Andover, and guilty to dangerous driving on July 3, 2024, at Tobique Narrows. Three other charges were withdrawn by the Crown.

New trial date pending

Craig Laskey, 36, of Jacksonville, appeared in provincial court on May 8 to set a new date for his trial after pleading not guilty to three charges laid by the RCMP.

His trial date will be rescheduled when he returns to court on May 26 at 9:30 a.m. for a monitoring hearing. The court heard he was trying to secure new legal counsel for his trial.

Laskey was charged with sexual assault for an incident on Aug. 14, 2024, in Jacksonville, and assault by choking and mischief on Aug. 21, 2024, in Bedell.
