Loaded firearm seized, man arrested following dangerous driving incident

Tire deflation device used by RCMP to stop vehicle

A 42-year-old man was arrested, and a loaded firearm was seized following a dangerous driving complaint near Woodstock.

Western Valley RCMP responded to reports of a vehicle travelling eastbound in the westbound lane on the Trans Canada Highway near Woodstock around 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 5.

The vehicle’s driver was seen driving erratically in the parking lot of a Wotstak First Nation business. The driver attempted to flee the scene, but police successfully deployed a tire deflation device, stopping the fleeing vehicle.

The 42-year-old man exited the vehicle and was arrested at the scene. A loaded firearm was located in the vehicle after his arrest. The man was remanded into custody but has since been released on conditions.

He is scheduled to appear in Woodstock Provincial Court at a later date. The investigation is ongoing.
