Multiple Anglophone and Francophone districts are seeking representatives for empty subdistrict seats
A Tuesday, June 23, news release from the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development announced that nominations are now being accepted to fill vacancies on district education councils around the province.
These are areas where no one stepped forward to run in the last province-wide municipal election in May.
When a vacancy exists, the council engages with local communities to identify people interested in representing a subdistrict.
The council submits the names, addresses and resumés of eligible candidates to the Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development for consideration. The minister then appoints a representative to fill each empty seat.
“We appreciate people who put their names forward to serve, and recognize that it is an important decision for them to support their local school district,” said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Claire Johnson.
“I encourage anyone interested in playing a part to reach out to their local school district to learn more about how they can serve on council.”
There are vacancies in the following districts:
Anglophone East School District: subdistrict 4
Anglophone South School District: subdistricts 5, 10, 11 and 12
Anglophone West School District: subdistricts 7, 11 and 13 (Greater Fredericton – 7, Fredericton Junction, Geary, Sunbury West – 11, and Cambridge-Narrows & Upper Miramichi – 13)
Francophone Nord-Ouest School District: subdistricts 1, 2 and 7
Francophone Nord-Est School District: subdistrict 4
Details about the nomination process for appointments and maps of the vacant subdistricts are available online.
