A man and woman break into cell tower near Four Falls
The RCMP has released surveillance photos as they seek the public’s help to identify two people involved in a copper theft in Four Falls, a rural community between Perth-Andover and Grand Falls.
In a media release, the Saint-Léonard RCMP said that on Oct. 7, a man and a woman forcefully gained entry to a cell tower near Old Highway 2 in Four Falls by cutting a fence and stealing a significant amount of copper wire.
Police explained that they decided to release surveillance footage photos in hopes that someone would recognize them.
At the time of the theft, the man wore a light-coloured jacket with a hood on. The woman was wearing striped pants, a jacket and a headlamp. They were driving an all-terrain vehicle (ATV). However, a description of the ATV is not available at this time.
The RCMP is warning the public of the dangers of stealing copper wire. Power lines and electrical substations can contain very high voltages of electricity, which should only be handled with the right training and equipment. It also poses a significant risk to public safety as it can limit access to 911 and other critical infrastructure.
The RCMP asked anyone who recognizes the individuals, witnessed suspicious activity in the area between 1 and 3 a.m. on Oct. 7, 2024, or has information about this theft to contact the Saint-Léonard RCMP at 506-473-3137.
Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), by downloading the secure P3 Mobile App, or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimenb.ca.
The investigation is ongoing.
