Bloomfield man charged after vehicle forced from road near Meductic

A Bloomfield man has been charged following an accident near Meductic on April 26 when a vehicle was forced off the four-lane highway by an oncoming car driving in the wrong lane.

Logan Sanders, 22, of Bloomfield, appeared in provincial court in custody on April 29. He was charged with indictable dangerous driving and remanded to jail to await a bail hearing on May 2 at 1:30 p.m. RCMP arrested him on April 27 while attempting to cross the Woodstock/Houlton border.

Sanders also faces charges of assault with a weapon (a knife) involving a male victim, two counts of uttering threats on Sept. 1 in Greenfield, two counts of committing mischief on Oct. 1-31 at Maple Ridge, and on Dec. 1-31 in Bloomfield.

A Plaster Rock woman and three youths were not injured when their vehicle left the highway and rolled over in the ditch after swerving to avoid the oncoming car travelling westbound at high speed.

Charged with child pornography

Brent Dawson, 29, of Gagetown, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 29 to answer a charge of possession of child pornography. He was released from custody with conditions after spending the weekend in jail. 

Dawson was charged by RCMP for an incident on April 26 at Belleville. He returns to court for plea on May 28 at 9:30 a.m. He was ordered to have no contact with children and must not access the Internet or a computer system.

Federal prison term expected for Thomas

Isaak Tedford Thomas, 28, of Centreville, will appear for sentencing in provincial court in custody on May 3 at 1:30 p.m. after pleading guilty to multiple charges laid by RCMP. The crown recommended Thomas serve over four years in federal prison.

Thomas pleaded guilty to careless use of a firearm, guilty to possession of a firearm without a licence, guilty to being an occupant of a vehicle knowing it carried a gun, guilty to resisting arrest, guilty to possession of a firearm while prohibited, and guilty to breach of probation.

The charges were laid following an incident that began in Speerville on July 17, 2023 and involved a gunshot fired at a local resident, a seven-hour police search, and a collision between a stolen side-by-side and a police cruiser on Route 105 in Lower Brighton. One police officer was injured during the arrest.

In March, a co-accused, Connell McLean, was sentenced to 28 months in federal prison minus time served. He admitted to being the driver of the stolen side-by-side. Thomas and McLean have been in jail since their arrest last July.

DeLong to stand trial in shooting incident

Wyatt DeLong, 28, of Cloverdale, will appear for trial in provincial court in custody after pleading not guilty to four charges. His three-day trial was set for May 3, May 6, and May 10 at 9:30 a.m.

DeLong was charged with discharging a firearm with intent, flight from police, dangerous driving and breach of probation in connection with an incident on July 14, 2023, at Florenceville-Bristol when shots were allegedly fired at a police officer. 

Janis Buchanan, 28, of Perth-Andover, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on Sept. 26 and pleaded guilty to robbery with violence for an incident on May 29, 2023, at Florenceville-Bristol. She was sentenced to two years in federal prison.

DeLong and Buchanan were arrested after a manhunt in Victoria County concerning a series of incidents in the upper river valley.

Coldstream woman pleads guilty

Alexandra Marie Weeks, 20, of Coldstream, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 29. She waived her bail and pleaded guilty to a series of charges laid by the RCMP. She returns to court for sentencing on May 28 at 1:30 p.m.

Weeks pleaded guilty to breaching her curfew on April 17 at Coldstream, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property (licence plates), and breach of probation in connection with an incident on April 1 at East Brighton. 

The court heard a vehicle was stolen in Carlow and was later spotted driving up and down the East Brighton Road. Police stopped the vehicle and found methamphetamine and the original licence plates inside. Weeks was identified as the driver.

Newbridge woman awaiting plea

Tracy Taylor, 41, of Newbridge, appeared in provincial court on April 30 for plea on four charges laid by RCMP. The matter was adjourned until May 21 at 9:30 a.m. to allow her more time to consult legal counsel.

Taylor appeared in provincial court in custody on April 2 and was released with conditions. She was charged with careless use of a firearm, pointing a gun at another person, possession of a firearm without a licence (a shotgun and rifle) and uttering threats against a male victim in connection with an incident between March 3 and March 31 in Newbridge.

Perth-Andover man to stand trial

James Blair Hovey, 27, of Perth Andover, appeared in provincial court on April 30 and pleaded not guilty to charges laid by RCMP. His trial date was set for May 9, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.

Hovey appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 2 and was released with conditions, including a curfew. RCMP charged him with possession of a stolen ATV, flight from police, and breach of probation concerning an incident on March 30 at Tobique Narrows. 

Bath man facing four charges

Michael James Watson, 30, of Bath, appeared in provincial court on April 30 and pleaded not guilty to four charges laid by RCMP. His trial date was set for May 14, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.

Watson was charged with assault with a weapon (a shovel), mischief causing property damage to a vehicle, dangerous driving, and driving while suspended concerning an incident on Nov. 5, 2023, at Bath. A monitoring date for his trial was also set for Oct. 29 at 9:30 a.m.

Returning for plea

Jordan Little, 41, of East Brighton Road, will appear in provincial court on May 21 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on a charge of breaching his release order (curfew).

RCMP charged Little in connection with an incident on April 9. He appeared in court in custody on April 10 and was released with conditions. 

Little will also stand trial on Aug. 29 at 1:30 p.m. on a charge of possession of a stolen vehicle. 

He pleaded guilty to breach of an undertaking on Oct. 4, 2023, in East Brighton and will be sentenced for that offence when he appears for trial on Aug. 29.

Two arrested in police chase 

Marshall Turner, 23, of Beaconsfield, and Kelsey Janetta Brooker, 30, of Florenceville-Bristol, were arrested and charged by RCMP following a police chase across Carleton North this week.

Turner appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 25 for a bail hearing. The hearing was adjourned until May 2 at 9:30 a.m. to allow him more time to consult legal counsel. He was charged with possession of stolen property, flight from police, dangerous driving and breach of probation. 

Brooker was charged with breaching a conditional sentence order and held in custody for a bail hearing on April 26. She was remanded to jail and appeared in court by video on April 30 for a hearing when she denied breaching her conditional sentence order.

They were arrested on April 23 after police pursued the pair through Beaconsfield, Florenceville-Bristol and Johnville, where they were apprehended with the assistance of a police dog and police helicopter. Turner and Brooker both have a prior criminal record.

Charged with drug trafficking

Nathan Aaron Sewell, 36, of Wilmot, appeared in provincial court on April 30 and pleaded not guilty to charges laid by RCMP. His two-day trial was set for May 15-16, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.

Sewell was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of cocaine, both for the purpose of trafficking, and three counts of possession of stolen property (an ID card, registration and mail) concerning an incident on Feb. 15 at Bairdsville. 

He appeared in court in custody on Feb. 17 and was released with conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle.

Woodstock man returning for trial

Ronald Dwayne Scott, 30, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court on April 30 and pleaded not guilty to four charges laid by Woodstock Police. His trial date was set for Feb. 14, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.

Scott was charged with assaulting another man, willfully causing damage to a vehicle, dangerous driving, and flight from police for an incident on Nov. 10, 2022, in Woodstock. He was arrested and released from custody on a release order. 

Sentencing set on five charges

Nicholas McConnell-Kinney, 26, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court on April 30 and pleaded guilty to two charges of breaching his curfew. 

RCMP charged McConnell-Kinney for incidents on Feb. 8 and Dec. 10, 2023, at Hartland. He also pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, and committing mischief by breaking a police officer’s glasses in connection with another incident on Jan. 1, 2023, at Florenceville-Bristol. 

His sentencing date on all charges was set for June 11 at 1:30 p.m. The court heard he also owes a $2,600 fine, and a warrant of committal and custodial sentence are expected for the accused.

More charges for Richmond Corner woman

Crystal Lee Phillips, 44, of Richmond Corner, appeared in provincial court on April 30 to answer to a list of charges laid by Woodstock Police. She returns to court for plea on May 21 at 9:30 a.m.

Phillips was charged with driving while suspended on Feb. 6, fraudulent impersonation, using a credit card knowing it was obtained by fraud, and defrauding the Walmart in Woodstock between Aug. 10, 2019, and June 23, 2023. 

Previously, Phillips appeared in provincial court in custody on April 18 on another charge of breaching her curfew laid by Woodstock Police. She was released with conditions and will enter a plea at her next court appearance.

Phillips also appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 2 on three other charges laid by Woodstock Police. She was released with conditions at that time, including a curfew. Her charges include possession of methamphetamine, breaking into a dwelling house on March 31 in Woodstock, and flight from police on Feb. 6. 

She is also scheduled for trial on Jan. 16, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. in relation to other separate charges. She appeared in court on Feb. 20 to get a new trial date after coming to court in January unprepared for her trial.

Phillips was charged by Woodstock Police with possession of stolen property (a Sobeys gift card) in connection with an incident on May 30, 2022, in Woodstock. 

Pelkey faces additional charge

Andrew Pelkey, 44, of Plymouth Road, appeared in provincial court on April 30 to answer a charge of failing to appear. He returns to court for plea on May 28 at 9:30 a.m.

Pelkey appeared in provincial court in custody for a bail hearing on Feb. 5 and was released with conditions. He was arrested on a warrant when he appeared for trial in provincial court on Feb. 2. His trial was adjourned until July 19 at 9:30 a.m.

The warrant was issued after Pelkey failed to appear in court for plea on Dec. 19, 2023. He was charged with breaching his release order by violating his curfew following an incident in Woodstock on Sept. 30, 2023. 

He appeared for trial in provincial court on Nov. 30, 2023, on eight other charges laid by the RCMP. The trial was adjourned at the request of his defence counsel, but due to his arrest, it did not proceed as scheduled.

At an earlier court appearance, Pelkey pleaded not guilty to assault with a weapon (a belt, glass bottle and stick), assault by choking, uttering threats, assault, pointing a firearm at another person, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace (BB guns and a pellet gun), careless use of a firearm, and willfully causing pain to a dog by shooting it with a pellet gun. The charges were laid in connection with incidents which occurred between Feb. 1 and March 21, 2023, near Richmond Corner. The alleged threats and assaults involve a female victim.

Pelkey appeared in provincial court in custody for a bail hearing on March 31, 2023. He was released with conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle. 

Arrest warrant issued

The court issued an arrest warrant for Darren Richard Hamilton, 43, of Woodstock, after failing to appear for sentencing on April 30.

Hamilton appeared in provincial court in custody on April 3 to be sentenced on one charge laid by Woodstock Police. His sentencing was adjourned, and he was released with conditions.

Hamilton was arrested on a warrant after failing to appear in provincial court for plea on Feb. 6. He was charged with breaking into a dwelling house to commit mischief concerning an incident between Aug. 5-6, 2023, in Woodstock. He pleaded guilty and waived his bail.

On April 3, the court heard Hamilton has been homeless for some time. He spent 42 days in custody before his release to await sentencing. He was ordered to return to court on April 30, or another arrest warrant would be issued.

Fined $200 for shoplifting

Jeremiah Michaud, 40, of Grand Falls, was fined $200 on April 30 after pleading guilty to a shoplifting charge. 

The RCMP charged Michaud following an incident at the Tobique Truck Stop in Carlingford on Feb. 6. The court heard Michaud had a prior criminal record.

Woodstock man still in custody

Julian Cassius Atherton, 18, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody via teleconference on April 30 for monitoring on drug and weapons charges laid by Woodstock Police. He returns to court on May 22 at 1:30 p.m. for further monitoring about his trial.

On April 2, Atherton was released with conditions, including full detention at a rehab facility near Moncton. He was charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace (knives), committing mischief and five counts of breaching a release order. He pleaded not guilty on all counts, and trial dates were set for May 22-23 and May 29-30 at 9:30 a.m. 

The charges were laid following an incident on Jan. 29 at 4:30 a.m. when Woodstock Police observed an adult male and a young offender prowling in dark clothing. The two were arrested, and a quantity of crystal meth, meth pills and several knives were seized. Police believe one of the individuals is linked to a series of property crimes and graffiti incidents in the town.

Four-day trial scheduled 

Ciji Ann Perley, 35, of Neqotkuk, will appear for trial in provincial court on May 21-23, 2025, and May 26, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to one charge laid by RCMP.

Perley was charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm concerning an incident on July 1, 2023, at Neqotkuk. She entered her not-guilty plea on April 30. A date for a pre-trial conference will be set on May 14 at 1:30 p.m.

A warrant will be held on file until her next court appearance.  The court heard Perley is now living in Montreal.

Charged with impaired driving

Cindy Darlene Nicholson, 51, of Centreville, will appear for trial in provincial on April 25, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to impaired driving.

Woodstock Police charged Nicholson in connection with an incident on Oct. 16, 2023, in Woodstock. She entered her not-guilty plea at a court appearance on April 30.

Agreed to peace bond

Tammy Williams, 48, of Bairdsville, appeared in provincial court on April 30, months ahead of her trial next February. She agreed to sign a 12-month peace bond, and the trial was cancelled.

RCMP charged Williams with assault on a male victim stemming from an incident on Oct. 15, 2023, near Wicklow. The peace bond will result in the charge being withdrawn.

Trial scheduled for Woodstock woman

Ashley Dawn Giberson, 33, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court on April 30 and pleaded not guilty to charges laid by Woodstock Police. Her trial date was set for March 12, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.

Giberson appeared in provincial court in custody on Feb. 27 and was released with conditions. Woodstock Police charged her with breach of a release order by failing to follow a curfew on Feb. 15 and shoplifting at the Canadian Tire in Woodstock on Feb. 3.

She was also charged with two counts of breaching a release order by failing to follow a curfew in Woodstock on Sept. 1 and Nov 9, 2023. 

Charged with impersonation

Michael Murphy, 28, of no fixed address, appeared in provincial court on April 30 and pleaded not guilty to one charge laid by RCMP. His trial date was set for May 12, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.

Murphy was charged with fraudulent impersonation with intent to avoid arrest concerning an incident on March 11 at Wostak (Woodstock First Nation). 

Agreed to peace bond on 2019 charge

Byron Faughn MacKenzie, 27, of Burnham Road, appeared in provincial court on April 30 to answer a threat charge laid in 2019. He agreed to sign a 12-month peace bond, and the charge was withdrawn.

RCMP charged MacKenzie with uttering threats against another man following an incident on Aug. 31, 2019, at Richmond Settlement. He was arrested on a warrant and ordered to appear in court for plea. 

Lincoln man awaiting trial 

Ronald Johnston, 68, of Lincoln, appeared in provincial court in custody by video for monitoring on April 30. The court heard he is currently serving a sentence on other matters. 

Johnston pleaded not guilty to failing to appear in court in Woodstock on Jan. 10.

He returns to court on July 15 at 1:30 p.m. when he is also scheduled for trial on an impaired driving charge.

RCMP charged Johnston with impaired driving following an incident on July 16, 2021, in Perth-Andover. He pleaded not guilty and was scheduled for trial on Aug. 14, 2023, and Jan. 10, but he failed to attend either court date. He was arrested on a warrant and appeared in court in custody from Fredericton.
