One month left to serve in jail
Joshua Matthew Jarrett, 39, of Woodstock, was sentenced to 12 months in jail, minus time served, after appearing in provincial court in custody on Sept. 14. He will have one month left to serve once his remand time is applied.
Jarrett pleaded guilty to theft of a truck and flight from police on Feb. 5 in East Brighton. The Crown withdrew two other charges. He also pleaded guilty to mischief causing property damage to an ankle bracelet on March 12 in Woodstock and obstructing police on Sept. 25, 2025, at Dow Settlement; and to breaching an undertaking, possession of a stolen vehicle, obstructing police, and breach of probation on March 18 in Fredericton.
Crown Prosecutor Sean Corscadden said Jarrett struggled with drug addiction and homelessness for the past five years since returning to the province and being out of work.
Defence Counsel Lindsay Paul told the court the accused had a construction job lined up so he could get back to work as soon as he is released. She stressed it was unemployment that led him to drugs and crime.
Jarrett apologized to the court for his actions. He appeared in court in custody in March for a bail hearing and was released on conditions but was later arrested in Fredericton. He has a trial in Fredericton on other matters next May. Jarrett had a lengthy prior criminal record.
Remanded for bail hearing
Kenneth Lake, 39, of Lansdowne, appeared in provincial court in custody via teleconference on Sept. 15 and was remanded to jail. He returns to court in custody for a bail hearing on Sept. 17 at 9:30 a.m.
RCMP charged Lake with assaulting another man and breaching his release order in connection with an incident on Sept. 14 at Stickney. He was ordered to have no contact with the complainant.
Lake also appeared in provincial court on Feb. 24 and pleaded not guilty to two other charges laid by the RCMP. His trial date was set for Feb. 3, 2027, at 9:30 a.m.
Lake appeared in custody via video for a bail hearing on Feb. 5 and was released with conditions. He was charged with breaching a no-contact order on Feb. 2 in Lansdowne and assaulting a female victim on Nov. 28, 2025, in Lansdowne.
Guns seized at River De Chute
A Clearview man will appear in provincial court on Oct. 6 at 9:30 a.m. for plea on six charges related to the alleged smuggling of guns and ammunition at River de Chute.
Gaylon Ross Smith, 57, was charged under the Customs Act by the Canada Border Services Agency with four counts of smuggling semi-automatic handguns and 12 overcapacity magazines, and one count of making false statements to border officials concerning a search and seizure on July 17.
He appeared in court on Sept. 14 to enter a plea, but the matter was adjourned when the court heard more charges were pending.
Released with conditions
Laurie Ann Fleming, 39, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody via teleconference on Sept. 15 after being arrested on a warrant for failing to attend court.
Woodstock Police charged Fleming with assaulting another woman on April 11 in Woodstock. Judge Rose Campbell released her on an undertaking with conditions. Fleming returns to court to enter a plea on Oct. 6 at 9:30 a.m.
Warrant issued
The court issued an arrest warrant on Sept. 15 for Allan Charles McLaughlin, 65, of Woodstock, for failing to pay an $800 fine imposed after his 2025 conviction on weapons charges laid by Woodstock Police.
McLaughlin was sentenced to 11 months in jail, minus time served, when he appeared in provincial court in custody by video on Sept. 10, 2025. He had been in custody since his April 2025 arrest and had accumulated 225 days in remand.
Judge Leslie Jackson also fined McLaughlin $800 and placed him on 18 months of probation. He was ordered to register with the federal DNA database and was handed a 10-year prohibition on firearms.
McLaughlin pleaded guilty to possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace (a nine-millimetre handgun), pointing a firearm at a female victim, assault with a weapon (a handgun), and careless use of a firearm in connection with an incident on April 13, 2025, in Woodstock. He was ordered to have no contact with the complainants. He also pleaded guilty to breaching a no-contact order on April 15, 2025, in Canterbury. The handgun used in the crime was forfeited to the Crown.
East Brighton man in hospital
Ozzie Jr. Trecartin, 31, of East Brighton, will appear in provincial court on Sept. 29 at 9:30 a.m. to set a new sentencing date after changing his plea to guilty on charges laid by the RCMP.
His sentencing was scheduled for Sept. 14, but the matter was adjourned again because Trecartin was still in the hospital. Defence Counsel Alex Pate said his condition was quite serious and required surgery.
Trecartin pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm without a licence, storage of multiple firearms in a careless manner, and resisting arrest on July 21, 2024, in East Brighton. He also pleaded guilty to impaired driving and two counts of driving while suspended on July 21, 2024, in Peel.
Other charges of attempted murder, reckless discharge of a firearm at a place while a person was inside, two counts of indictable assault against another man, and uttering threats were withdrawn by the Crown.
Trecartin appeared in provincial court via video for a bail hearing on July 30, 2024, and was released on conditions. The court ordered him to have no firearms in his possession.
Guilty plea on two charges
Brent Demerchant, 58, of Holmesville, appeared for trial in provincial court on Sept. 14 and changed his plea to guilty on two charges laid by the RCMP. His sentencing date was set for Dec. 15 at 1:30 p.m.
Demerchant was charged with assault with a weapon (a rock), assault involving a female victim, and uttering threats for an incident on June 22, 2025, at Holmesville. He pleaded guilty to the assault and threats, and the Crown withdrew the assault with a weapon charge.
Alternative measures program
Madison Anderson, 20, of Fredericton, formerly of Plaster Rock, appeared in provincial court in custody for plea on Sept. 14 on charges laid by Woodstock Police. The court heard that police arrested her on a warrant in Edmundston.
Her Woodstock charges were diverted to the alternative measures program for resolution. She has until Dec. 15 at 9:30 a.m. to complete the program requirements to have the charges withdrawn.
Anderson was charged with breaching a release order, theft from the Walmart on Feb. 10, and mischief causing property damage to a vehicle on Nov. 12, 2025, in Woodstock.
She was also charged with two counts of theft: one on Nov. 24, 2025, at the Petro Canada near Meductic, and one involving the theft of copper wire at Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation) on the same date. The Crown withdrew the charge involving the wire theft.
Sentencing scheduled
London Murchison, 20, of Plaster Rock, will appear for sentencing in provincial court on Sept. 16 at 9:30 a.m. after changing his plea to guilty on two charges laid by the RCMP.
Murchison was charged with assault with a weapon (a knife) and possession of a prohibited weapon (a butterfly knife) concerning an incident on Sept. 2, 2024, at Plaster Rock.
He pleaded guilty to the lesser included offences of common assault and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace. The court ordered him to have no contact with the complainants.
New trial date pending
Jesse Andree, 38, of East Brighton, will appear in provincial court on Sept. 22 at 9:30 a.m. to set a new trial date after pleading not guilty to five charges laid by the RCMP. His trial was booked for May 10, 2027, at 9:30 a.m., but on Monday the court heard the date needed to be changed at the Crown’s request.
Andre was charged with aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm, mischief, dangerous driving and leaving the scene of an accident under the Motor Vehicle Act on Dec. 2, 2025, at East Brighton.
Charges diverted
Brandon Kenneth McKee, 20, of Dead Creek, appeared in provincial court on Sept. 15 to enter a plea to two charges laid by Woodstock Police.
McKee was charged with causing a public disturbance and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace (an axe) in connection with an incident on March 5 at the Royal Bank in Woodstock.
At the Crown’s request, the charges were diverted to the alternative measures program for resolution. McKee has until Dec. 15 at 9:30 a.m. to complete the program requirements to have the charges withdrawn.
Monitoring hearing
Luke Andrew Crawford, 18, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court on Sept. 15 for a monitoring hearing ahead of his January trial on four charges laid by Woodstock Police.
Crawford pleaded not guilty to unlawful confinement, assault involving a female victim, and mischief causing property damage to a cell phone following an incident on Aug. 18, 2025, in Woodstock. He was also charged with mischief causing damage to a set of car keys on Aug. 1, 2025, in Woodstock.
On Tuesday, the court moved all charges to the alternative measures program for resolution. Crawford has until Dec. 15 at 9:30 a.m. to complete the program requirements to have the charges withdrawn.
Facing two charges
Stephanie L. Hardy, 59, of Lake George, will appear in provincial court on Oct. 6 at 9:30 a.m. to enter a plea to two charges.
Hardy was charged with defrauding the federal government and fraudulent impersonation in connection with incidents in Woodstock between June 19, 2021, and Sept. 21, 2024, and between June 19, 2021, and May 1, 2025. She appeared in court on Sept. 15 when the matter was adjourned to allow her lawyer time to consider moving the case to the Court of King’s Bench.
Agreed to peace bond
Nicholas Demerchant, 49, of Beechwood, appeared in provincial court on Sept. 15 for a monitoring hearing about his trial in January on two assault charges laid by the RCMP. He agreed to sign a 12-month peace bond, and the trial was cancelled.
Demerchant was charged with assault and assault with a weapon (a chair) concerning an incident on Aug. 14, 2025, in Beechwood. The peace bond will result in the charges being withdrawn. He was ordered to have no contact with the complainant.
Incident in Maxwell
Pipo Michaud, 52, of Maxwell, will appear in provincial court on Oct. 6 at 9:30 a.m. to enter a plea to two charges laid by the RCMP.
Michaud was charged with uttering threats against a female victim on May 20 in Maxwell, and possession of a firearm without a licence on May 26 in Maxwell. He was scheduled for a plea on Sept. 15, but the matter was adjourned to give his lawyer more time to review disclosure from the Crown.
Trial on firearm charges
Shawn Johnston, 47, of Mainstream, will appear for trial in provincial court on Aug. 16, 2027, at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to several firearm charges laid by the RCMP.
Johnston was charged with careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a prohibited weapon, concerning an incident on June 9 at Mainstream. He entered his not- guilty plea at a court appearance on Sept. 15.
Guilty of assault
Sherra Gregg, 29, of Anderson Road, Victoria County, will appear for sentencing in provincial court on Sept. 16 at 9:30 a.m. after changing her plea to guilty on an assault charge laid by the RCMP.
Gregg was charged with assaulting another woman and unlawful entry at a dwelling house on July 16, 2024, at Quaker Brook. The Crown withdrew the unlawful entry charge.
Gregg also had a trial set for Sept. 9 after pleading not guilty to charges of breaching an undertaking on March 31, 2025, in Perth-Andover, and criminal harassment by repeated communication between March 8 and March 25, 2025, in Plaster Rock.
Her trial was adjourned, and a new date will be set on Sept. 16. The court heard that more files are to be transferred for plea from another jurisdiction.
Returning for plea
Dillion Christopher Langille, 29, of Tatamagouche, will appear in provincial court on Oct. 6 at 9:30 a.m. to enter a plea to multiple charges laid by Woodstock Police.
Langille was charged with flight from police, dangerous driving, mischief, assaulting a police officer, and resisting arrest, concerning an incident on July 5 in Woodstock. He was scheduled to appear in provincial court on Sept. 15 via teleconference, but the matter was adjourned to a new date. A warrant was held on file until his next court appearance.
