Woodstock Provincial Court: Search of residence after domestic dispute results in seizure of weapons

Woodstock man in custody on weapons charges

Allan Charles McLaughlin, 63, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 17 for a bail hearing on weapons charges related to a domestic dispute. He waived his bail until later and returns to court in custody for plea on April 29 at 1:30 p.m.

McLaughlin was charged by Woodstock Police with possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace (a nine-millimetre handgun), pointing a firearm at a female victim, assault with a weapon (a handgun), and careless use of a firearm in connection with an incident on April 13 in Woodstock. He was ordered to have no contact with the complainants. On Thursday, he was also charged with breaching a no-contact order on April 15 in Canterbury.

Woodstock Police attended a residence on April 13 to answer a call about a domestic dispute. During the course of their investigation, they determined a male suspect had produced a loaded handgun and pointed it at a female victim during the altercation.

Following this incident, police executed a search warrant at the same residence, which resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of firearms, including handguns, rifles and shotguns, and more than 1,500 rounds of ammunition.

Wotstak man back in custody

Takoda Louis Lee Christian, 19, of Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation), appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 17 after being arrested on several new charges. He waived his bail until later and returns to court for plea on May 1 at 9:30 a.m.

Christian was charged by Woodstock Police with breach of a release order (house arrest) on April 16 at Wotstak and breach of a no-contact order on April 14 in Woodstock.

He was also charged with assault and unlawful confinement between June 29, 2024, and July 4, 2024, at Wotstak; assault and two counts of assault by choking in Fredericton between Feb. 10 and Feb. 19; and mischief causing property damage to a cell phone between Feb. 10 and Feb. 19 at Wotstak.

Christian was arrested six days after he appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 10 for a bail hearing on other charges. He was released from custody at that time with conditions including house arrest and wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle.

He was charged with assaulting another man with a weapon (a knife), uttering threats and mischief causing property damage to a window in connection with an incident on April 8 in Lansdowne. He returns to court in custody for plea on May 1 at 9:30 a.m.

Christian also faces charges laid by Woodstock Police following an assault outside the Royal Canadian Legion on Nov. 14, 2024. Police were called to the scene, and a man was transported to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Christian was charged with indictable aggravated assault, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, and failing to remain at the scene of an accident. He returns to court in custody on May 1 at 9:30 a.m. for election and plea.

He also appeared in provincial court on April 15 and pleaded not guilty to another indictable assault charge laid by Woodstock Police. His trial was set for April 29, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

Christian pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault concerning an incident on March 25 at the Ayr Motor Centre. Woodstock Police said a 16-year-old victim suffered significant injuries in the incident and was transported to the Upper River Valley Hospital for treatment.

Fined $1,300 for impaired

Andrew Muir Cossio, 22, of Victoria Corner, appeared in provincial court on April 16 and pleaded guilty to an impaired driving charge. He was fined $1,300 and prohibited from driving for one year.

Woodstock Police charged Cossio following an incident on Nov. 17, 2024, in Woodstock.

Denied bail and remanded

Kyle Laurie Williams, 36, of Clearview, was denied bail when he appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 17. He returns to court in custody for plea on July 10 at 9:30 a.m. to answer multiple charges laid by RCMP.

Williams was charged with breaching a release order (no-contact) and two counts of criminal harassment concerning incidents in Aroostook between Feb. 27 and March 29 at Aroostook. The harassment charges involve texting a female victim and allegedly placing an electronic tracking system in her vehicle.

He was also charged with criminal harassment (60 text messages) and breaching a no-contact order between Jan. 27 and Feb. 1 in Aroostook.

Williams pleaded not guilty in February to another breach charge, and his trial date was set for July 10 at 9:30 a.m. He was released from custody with conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle, but was rearrested.

Williams is also awaiting trial on another charge of transmitting intimate images without consent concerning an incident on June 4, 2023, at Centreville. He pleaded not guilty, and his trial was rescheduled for July 10 at 9:30 a.m.

Returning for plea

Erin Rosalie Gauvin, 41, of Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation), will appear in provincial court on May 13 at 9:30 a.m. to answer five charges laid by Woodstock Police. She appeared in court on April 15 when the matters were adjourned to the new date at the request of her defence counsel.

Gauvin was charged with refusing a breathalyzer demand, resisting arrest, obstructing police by fleeing, and two counts of driving while suspended for incidents on Oct. 30 and Oct. 31, 2024, in Woodstock.

Trial testimony concluded

Christopher Hazen Hamilton, 50, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court on April 16 for the continuation of his trial after pleading not guilty to 12 charges laid by Woodstock Police. The trial testimony concluded, and the case was adjourned for closing arguments on May 28 at 1:30 p.m.

During the trial, Judge Sebastian Michaud heard testimony from police officers and the female victim, who described horrific details of domestic violence involving the accused.

Hamilton appeared in custody by video on June 10, 2024, and was released from custody with conditions including wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle.

He was charged with assault involving a female victim, assault by choking, three counts of uttering threats, assault with a weapon (a broken teacup) and attempting to cause injury and suffering to a dog, concerning incidents between March 1 and May 24, 2024, in Woodstock.

Hamilton was also charged with assaulting a female victim, uttering threats and mischief causing property damage on May 25, 2024, and assaulting a female victim and assault with a weapon (a cigar) on May 26, 2024. The alleged incidents occurred in Woodstock. He spent several days in remand before his release.

In custody awaiting plea

Mitchell McKenzie, 39, of Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation), appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 17 for plea on charges laid by RCMP. The matter was adjourned until April 24 at 9:30 a.m. to allow him more time to secure legal counsel.

McKenzie was denied bail and remanded to jail on March 27. RCMP arrested and charged him with breaching a release order (no alcohol or drugs) and committing mischief concerning an incident on March 21 at Wotstak.

He also appeared in provincial court in custody on March 17 following a five-day mental health assessment at the Restigouche hospital.  Judge Karen Lee found McKenzie fit to stand trial and released him with conditions, but he returned to custody. His medical report indicated he struggles with alcohol and heavy drug use.

McKenzie appeared in court in custody on March 10 after being arrested on a warrant. RCMP charged him with assaulting another man with a weapon (a wooden pole) following an incident on July 24, 2024, at Wotstak. 

He appeared in provincial court in custody on Nov. 25, 2024, for a bail hearing and was released with conditions but failed to return to court for plea. He missed three court dates before being arrested on a warrant.

Killoween man in custody until trial

Trevor Lee Crain, 49, of Killoween, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 17 for monitoring on multiple charges laid by RCMP. He pleaded not guilty to all counts, and trial dates were set.

Crain was denied bail and remanded to jail on March 27. He was charged with three counts of breaching his release order (house arrest), concerning incidents on Jan. 30, Feb. 2 and Feb. 7 at Beechwood. His trial date was set for July 25 at 9:30 a.m.

He was also charged by RCMP with possession of a prohibited weapon (brass knuckles), resisting arrest, and breach of a release order in connection with an incident on July 1, 2024, at Killoween. He also faces a charge of possessing a stolen dirt bike for a separate incident on May 25, 2024. His trial was set for July 25 at 9:30 a.m.

Crain was charged by RCMP with break and enter at a dwelling house, breaching an undertaking on June 15, 2023, at Moose Mountain, and committing an assault involving a female victim on June 11, 2023, at Killoween. He was also charged with breaching a release order by failing to appear in court on July 11, 2023. The trial will be held on July 25 at 9:30 a.m.

Crain has one more trial date set for Dec. 31 at 9:30 a.m. He pleaded not guilty to breaking into a residence and committing sexual assault for an incident between May 1, 2023, and May 23, 2023, at Moose Mountain.

Released with ankle bracelet

Tanna Wright, 27, of Perth-Andover, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on April 17 for a bail hearing. She was released with conditions including house arrest and wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to her ankle. She will be residing at a residence in Woodstock.

Wright had been in custody for nearly two months. She appeared in provincial court in custody by video in March and pleaded not guilty to breaching her release order (curfew) on Feb. 21 in Woodstock. Her trial date was set for May 1 at 9:30 a.m.

RCMP also charged Wright with breaching a no-contact order, assault, assault by choking and uttering threats against another woman concerning incidents on Feb. 4 and Feb. 5 at Weaver. She pleaded not guilty, and a trial date was set for May 1 at 9:30 a.m.

She is also scheduled for trial on July 10 at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to assault with a weapon and two counts of uttering threats on Dec. 16, 2023, in Greenfield and theft of a wallet in connection with another separate incident on June 19, 2024, in Perth-Andover.
