Arrest made in alleged assault in Woodstock
Steven Derek Trecartin, 47, of East Brighton, appeared in provincial court in custody on July 23 after being arrested on four charges related to an alleged assault in Woodstock.
Woodstock Police charged Trecartin with assault by choking, two counts of uttering threats and committing mischief in connection with an incident in Woodstock. He was released from custody on Thursday with conditions and will return to court for a plea on Aug. 18 at 9:30 a.m.
Arrest warrant issued
The court issued an arrest warrant for Christian John Shannon, 26, of Williamstown, after he failed to appear in court for sentencing on July 23.
On April 20, Shannon appeared for trial in provincial court and changed his plea to guilty of breaching his probation between Jan. 30 and Aug. 16, 2024, in Woodstock, and theft from Don’s Pawn Shop in Woodstock on April 30, 2024.
Released until sentencing
Joshua Sterling Trail, 42, of Hartland, will appear for sentencing in provincial court on July 29 at 1:30 p.m. after changing his plea to guilty on two charges laid by Woodstock Police. He was released from custody with conditions in May to await sentencing, but the matter was postponed at the request of Defence Counsel Alex Carleton, who explained Trail was working in the North.
Trail pleaded guilty to unlawful entry at a dwelling house on Charlotte Street and committing mischief while on the property in connection with an incident between Sept. 6 and Sept. 7, 2024, in Woodstock. The Crown withdrew several other charges.
A co-accused, Dynielle Allison Demerchant, 28, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court on July 23 and pleaded guilty to breaking into the same residence on Charlotte Street, committing mischief, possession of a stolen Blue Cross card, breach of probation, and indictable possession of methamphetamine.
She also pleaded guilty to possession of a stolen vehicle and breach of probation in connection with a separate incident on Sept. 17, 2024, in Woodstock. Her sentencing was set for Nov. 6 at 1:30 p.m.
Charges transferred
Corey Andrew Lane, 40, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody via video on July 21 to answer charges laid by Woodstock Police.
Lane was charged with possession of a firearm while prohibited from having it, unauthorized possession of a firearm, break and enter, and failing to appear in court. He waived his bail until later. The court heard he was also in custody on other charges in Fredericton.
On July 21, Lane requested his Woodstock charges be transferred to Fredericton for a guilty plea and sentencing. A monitoring hearing was set for Sept. 8 to confirm the case has been transferred to Fredericton court.
Beechwood woman awaits verdict
Courtney Demerchant, 28, of Beechwood, appeared for trial in provincial court on July 22 after pleading not guilty to two assault charges laid by RCMP. The trial concluded, and a verdict was reserved until Aug. 27 at 2:30 p.m.
Demerchant was charged with assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm concerning an incident on Nov. 5, 2024, in Beechwood.
She will also appear for trial in provincial court on Feb. 10, 2027, at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to another assault charge laid by Woodstock Police.
Demerchant was charged with assaulting a male victim in connection with an incident on Feb. 15, 2025, in Woodstock.
Not-guilty verdict
Jordan Alexander White-Pickard, 28, of Holmesville, appeared for trial in provincial court on July 22 after pleading not guilty to a threat charge laid by Woodstock Police.
White-Pickard was charged with uttering threats following an incident on Aug. 3, 2024, in Woodstock. The Crown called no evidence, and he received a directed verdict of not guilty.
Peace bond, charges withdrawn
Jeffrey Richard Bull, 45, of Newburg, appeared for trial in provincial court on July 24 after pleading not guilty to three charges laid by the RCMP. The Crown withdrew two of the charges, and Bull agreed to sign a 12-month peace bond on the remaining charge.
Bull was charged by the RCMP with possession of stolen speakers on Sept. 22, 2024, at Newbridge, and breaking into a dwelling house and breach of probation on March 16, 2025, at Bulls Creek.
The charges related to the alleged break-in and his probation were both withdrawn. A peace bond was ordered on the stolen property charge, and this will result in it being withdrawn as well. Bull was directed to have no contact with the complainant.
Bull also appeared in provincial court on July 16 for the continuation of his trial after pleading not guilty to hitting another man with a baseball bat.
After hearing closing submissions from Crown Prosecutor Charles Couturier and Defence Counsel Alex Pate, Judge Leslie Jackson reserved his decision on a verdict until Aug. 28 at 9:30 a.m.
Bull was charged by Woodstock Police with aggravated assault and breach of probation concerning an incident on Sept. 8, 2024, at 2 a.m., when a man suffered a broken elbow after being struck by a bat on St. James Street in Woodstock.
During the trial, the male victim testified he was home partying with friends when Bull began yelling about the noise from across the street. The man said he approached Bull to talk to him when the alleged attack occurred. He said he fainted after being hit with the bat as Bull left the scene. Bull testified he was acting in self-defence because the man made an aggressive gesture by removing his shirt and taking a punch toward Bull.
Trial continues in August
Cassidy Guest, 33, of Grand Falls, appeared in provincial court on July 24 for the continuation of his trial after pleading not guilty to several charges laid by Woodstock Police. The trial was adjourned until Aug. 13 at 1:30 p.m. to allow him time to secure new legal counsel.
Guest was charged by Woodstock Police with assault by choking, unlawful confinement, assault involving a female victim, uttering threats, breach of an undertaking, robbery of a cell phone, mischief causing property damage, and assault while threatening to use a weapon (a knife), concerning an incident between Feb. 15 and Feb.16, 2025, in Woodstock.
Sentencing set for one accused
Timothy Brian Wheelan, 39, of Jacksonville, will appear in provincial court in custody for sentencing on July 27 at 9:30 a.m. after changing his plea to guilty on charges laid by the RCMP.
At an earlier court appearance, Wheelan pleaded guilty to uttering threats against a female victim on April 10, 2025, in Woodstock, and guilty to uttering threats against two other women on Aug. 12, 2025, at Jacksonville. The Crown withdrew two other charges.
Wheelan was denied bail on Nov. 20, 2025. He also changed his plea to guilty for breaching his curfew on Sept. 23, 2025, at Carlingford, and to guilty of breach of an undertaking (no weapons), possession of a stolen utility trailer, and resisting arrest on Nov. 17, 2025, at Meductic. The Crown withdrew three more charges.
Wheelan and Samuel Robert Crewe, 31, of Jacksonville, will also appear for trial in provincial court in custody on July 27 at 9:30 a.m. after pleading not guilty to drug and gun charges laid by local police. Two more trial dates were set for Aug. 10 and Aug. 13 at 9:30 a.m.
The RCMP charged the two men with possession of methamphetamine and ecstasy for the purpose of trafficking in connection with incidents between June 1 and June 13, 2025, in Jacksonville. With the consent of the Crown, two other drug charges were reduced on July 7 to indictable possession of cocaine and fentanyl.
Wheelan also pleaded not guilty to 42 related gun charges laid by Woodstock Police, which are to be amended at the request of Defence Counsel Annie Maltais. She told the court a global resolution was being sought with the Crown.
Crewe pleaded not guilty to 13 gun charges related to the same incident in June 2025, but those charges did not proceed. The Crown called no evidence, and Crewe received a directed verdict of not guilty on July 10.
Crewe was sentenced to three years in federal prison, minus time served, when he appeared in provincial court via video in custody on Jan. 26. He pleaded guilty to a raft of drug and theft charges, as well as driving offences, laid by Woodstock Police and the RCMP. He had a prior criminal record.
