Former Woodstock resident uses vacation home to pay tribute to two men for the service and sacrifice
Former Woodstock-area resident Simon MacInnis used his late July family vacation back home to present Quilts of Valour to a pair of veterans and friends.
“On Sunday, July 24, in Woodstock, NB, I had the amazing honour to conduct two quilt presentations for veterans, and most of all two great friends,” said MacInnis.
He made the presentations to John MacDonald of Oromocto and Jordan Tatton of Saint John during a ceremony at Best Western Woodstock.
Quilts of Valour — Canada Society is a national organization which presents handmade quilts to veterans who served to protect the nation and Canadians.
While MacInnis, who lives in Conception Bay South, NL, is the Newfoundland and Labrador representative for Quilts of Valour, he took the opportunity to make the New Brunswick presentations to a pair of old friends.
“First of all, it was my great pleasure to present my best friend John MacDonald with his quilt,” said MacInnis. “John and I grew up together as our families were well known to each other.”
MacInnis, who received his own Quilt of Valour in 2019, said he and MacDonald did their basic training together. MacDonald currently serves as Mortar pl Commander with the Royal New Brunswick regiment.
“We spent many a day in the family home basement sharing army stories,” said MacInnis at the presentation.
MacDonald’s parents, Ron and Carol and brother Allan attended the presentation.
MacInnis also presented the quilt to Tatton, noting they have known each other for many years as they attended various camps in New Brunswick.
“Congrats brother and well deserved. Thank you very much for your service, sacrifice and dedication to our country,” MacInnis said as he presented the quilts to each man.
