A Woodstock man was arrested and remains in custody after police seized a firearm and a large quantity of ammunition.

In a news release issued on Friday, June 5, the Woodstock Police Force (WPF) said it had executed a search warrant on a home following an investigation by the force’s Criminal Investigation Section.

The seizure was conducted with members of the WPF and officers with the Fredericton Police Force Emergency Response Team. The news release said the emergency response team was called in due to the “potential risk posed to the public, officers, and the subject of the investigation. Specialized tactics, including specialty munitions, were utilized to bring the operation to a safe and swift conclusion.”

A man was arrested at the scene without incident and has been charged with the following offences:

• Carrying a firearm in a careless manner contrary to section 86(3)(b) of the Criminal Code

The accused is remanded in custody until Monday, June 8.

“The Woodstock Police Force would like to thank the Fredericton Police Force Emergency Response Team for their assistance and professionalism throughout the operation. The successful resolution of this incident demonstrates the value of interoperability and the commitment of both agencies to ensure public safety,” the release noted.

The WPF also thanked residents who lived in the area where the seizure took place.
