Alleged armed intruder back in custody following foot chase
Mason Bustard, 18, of Woodstock, appeared in court in custody by video on August 1 for a bail hearing on new charges laid by Woodstock Police. He was arrested on the weekend following a foot chase through a wooded area off Houlton Street.
Bustard was charged with break and enter at a dwelling house and two counts of assault on July 27, breach of a release order, possession of prohibited weapons (a sawed-off shotgun and brass knuckles), possession of a firearm without a licence, and possession of a loaded prohibited firearm and ammunition without a licence on July 28, and uttering threats and causing injury to an animal (a dog) by kicking it on July 24.
His bail hearing was adjourned until August 8 at 1:30 p.m. at the request of his defence counsel.
Police made their arrest after spotting a suspect on Houlton Street around noon on July 28. The individual fled on a bicycle into the woods and was pursued by officers on foot. During the chase, the suspect discarded various items, including a sawed-off shotgun, brass knuckles, and a mask, which were retrieved later by an RCMP police dog.
On July 17, Bustard appeared in court in custody on other separate charges and was released with conditions. He was scheduled to return to court for plea on August 13 at 9:30 a.m., when he was re-arrested.
Woodstock Police charged him with breaking into a garage on Houlton Street, wearing a mask during the commission of an offence, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace (a knife), assault with a weapon, and criminal harassment.
Bustard was arrested after police received a report of an armed intruder who entered a yard on Houlton Street on the morning of July 16 and approached a woman while holding a knife. The man’s face was partially covered with a mask or scarf.
He instructed the woman to go inside her house. She immediately complied and locked the door behind her. The man then went inside her garage before eventually leaving the area.
In custody on multiple charges
Austin Aube, 28, of Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), appeared in provincial court in custody on August 1 for a bail hearing on multiple charges laid by RCMP. His bail hearing was adjourned until August 8 at 1:30 p.m. at the request of his defence counsel.
Aube was charged with flight from police, two counts of assaulting a police officer with a weapon (an ATV), resisting arrest, dangerous driving, possession of a prohibited weapon (brass knuckles), possession of a prohibited weapon without a licence, and breach of an undertaking on July 28 at Neqotkuk, driving while suspended and flight from police on July 12 at Neqotkuk, assault with a weapon (a knife) involving a female victim, assault by choking, and resisting arrest on May 8 at Neqotkuk. He was arrested on a warrant.
Gordonsville man arrested
Brandon Levesque, 26, of Gordonsville, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on August 1 for a bail hearing after being arrested on three charges. At the request of his defence counsel, his bail hearing was adjourned to August 22 at 1:30 p.m.
RCMP charged Levesque with breaking into a dwelling house and mischief causing property damage to a door on July 30 in Plaster Rock and assault with a weapon (a rock) involving a female victim on July 28 in Plaster Rock. No plea has yet been entered.
Back in custody on new charge
Gary Frederick Kilcollins, 48, of Woodstock, appeared in provincial court in custody on August 1 to answer a new charge laid by Woodstock Police. He was remanded to jail to await a bail hearing on August 6 at 1:30 p.m.
Kilcollins was charged with breaching his release order (curfew) for an incident on July 31 in Woodstock. He had been out of custody for 19 days following a lengthy stay in remand.
He appeared in provincial court in custody on July 12 for a bail hearing and was released with conditions. On July 16, he returned to court and pleaded not guilty to nine other charges. His trial dates were set for July 17-18, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.
Kilcollins was charged by Woodstock Police with break-and-enter at a dwelling house, theft of a TV, breach of probation for an incident between April 8 and April 16 in Woodstock, and driving while suspended on December 7, 2023.
He was also charged with theft from the Woodstock Superstore on March 24 and theft from the Vie Thrift Boutique on April 13. A mischief charge was also laid for an incident on January 2 when a window was broken at another property in town.
He was also charged with breach of probation and theft from Home Hardware in Woodstock on January 15.
Denied bail and remanded
Emily McSheffrey, 27, of Waterville, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on August 1 for a bail hearing. She was denied bail and remanded to await her trial.
McSheffrey also appeared in provincial court in custody by video on July 25 and pleaded not guilty to 10 charges laid by Woodstock Police and the RCMP. Her two-day trial was set for Nov. 14-15 at 9:30 a.m.
McSheffrey was charged with break and enter at a dwelling house, theft of a TV, and breach of probation for an incident in Woodstock between April 8 and April 16. She was also charged with shoplifting at the Superstore on March 21.
McSheffrey was remanded to jail on May 14 on six other charges laid by RCMP.
RCMP charged her with assault with a weapon (a hammer) involving a male victim, mischief causing property damage, and breach of probation concerning an incident on April 27 at Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation).
She was also charged with assaulting another man, breach of a peace bond, and breach of probation for another incident on May 4 at Killoween.
Bail hearing adjourned
Zachary Sarchfield, 30, of Wotstak (Woodstock First Nation), appeared in provincial court in custody by video on August 1 for a bail hearing. At the request of his defence counsel, his bail hearing was adjourned to August 13 at 1:30 p.m.
Sarchfield was arrested on July 19 for attempting to breach his release order and remanded. He had been out of custody for only four days.
On July 15, he was released from custody with conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device attached to his ankle. He was scheduled to return to court for plea on August 13 at 1:30 p.m. when he was rearrested.
RCMP charged Sarchfield with two counts of unlawful confinement, assault, and possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence concerning an incident on September 11, 2023, in Woodstock.
He appeared in provincial court in custody via teleconference on January 18 after being arrested on a warrant in Fredericton. He was released with conditions but failed to return to court for plea in February. Sarchfield also failed to appear in court to answer charges on January 16 and a warrant was issued.
Agreed to peace bond
Jason Albert Williams, 49, of Woodstock, appeared for trial in provincial court on August 1 after pleading not guilty to assault. He agreed to sign a 12-month peace bond and the trial did not proceed. The peace bond will result in the charge being withdrawn.
Williams was charged by Woodstock Police with assaulting another man following an incident on April 8, 2023, in Woodstock.
Trial date for Turner
Marshall Turner, 23, of Beaconsfield, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on August 1 to set a date for his trial after pleading not guilty to several charges. His trial was scheduled for November 1 at 9:30 a.m. and November 6 at 9:30 a.m.
Turner was charged by the RCMP with possession of a stolen vehicle, flight from police, breach of probation, and possession of a stolen fuel pump in connection with a police chase across Carleton North on April 23 that ended in Johnville.
He was also charged with possession of a stolen vehicle on April 13 in Greenfield and possession of the stolen vehicle, breach of probation, and dangerous driving on April 18 in Perth-Andover.
Turner appeared in provincial court in custody by video on June 18 and waived his bail until later. He has a prior criminal record and has been in custody since his arrest in April.
A co-accused, Kelsey Janetta Brooker, 30, of Florenceville-Bristol, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on June 21 and changed her plea to guilty to being at large on a release order. She was sentenced to 30 days in jail consecutive to the time she was already serving for breaching a conditional sentence order. Brooker had a prior criminal record.
Bail hearing adjourned
Trevor Lee Crain, 49, of Killoween, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on August 1 for a bail hearing on several charges laid by the RCMP. At the request of his defence counsel, the bail hearing was adjourned until August 6 at 1:30 p.m.
Crain was charged by RCMP with possession of a prohibited weapon (brass knuckles), resisting arrest, and breach of a release order in connection with an incident on July 1 at Killoween.
He was also charged with breaking into a residence and committing sexual assault for another incident between May 1 and May 23, 2023, at Moose Mountain.
He also faces a charge of possessing stolen property for a separate incident on May 5. He pleaded not guilty, and a trial date will be set for his next court appearance.
Crain was scheduled to appear for trial on July 11 after pleading not guilty to a series of other charges. However, those matters were adjourned until after his plea on the new charges.
Crain was charged by RCMP with break and enter at a dwelling house and breaching an undertaking on June 15, 2023, at Moose Mountain, and committing an assault involving a female victim on June 11, 2023, at Killoween.
He appeared in provincial court in custody by video on September 14, 2023, for a bail hearing and was released with conditions. As part of his release order, he was ordered to follow a curfew and report to the police weekly, but he was brought back into custody.
Conditional sentence expires in custody
Mitchell Sutthery, 38, of Arthurette, appeared in provincial court in custody by video on August 1 and admitted to breaching his conditional sentence order.
The court heard the conditional sentence order expired while he was in remand. However, Sutthery remains in jail to await his trial on other charges.
He appeared in provincial court in custody by video on July 23 and pleaded not guilty to charges laid by RCMP. His trial date was set for October 31 at 9:30 a.m.
Sutthery was charged with breach of a conditional sentence order, two counts of resisting arrest, two counts of assaulting a police officer, escaping lawful custody, and breach of probation.
He appeared in court in custody on May 27 and waived his bail until later. He was arrested on May 24 and charged with breach of a conditional sentence order.
