The popular petting farm returns to Woodstock’s summer festival.
Children’s laughter joined the chirps and coos of animals at this year’s Woodstock Old Home Week Petting Farm.
The petting farm, located next to the midway in front of the AYR Motor Centre, allows visitors to interact with goats, chickens, bunnies, a lamb, and a pregnant donkey. A cow will join the group on Aug. 4 and 5.
The cow will be used for a milking demonstration on Friday at 7 p.m., and it is hoped that the donkey will deliver foals during the event.
“There are a lot of children who otherwise don’t get the chance to be on a farm and see animals,” said lead organizer Erica Delong.
She said the petting farm allows children to get to know and be comfortable around animals.
In addition to the animals, the event provided multiple games for kids, such as an axe-throwing toy and checkers.
Also included in the venue are daily stories read by authors to children besides the animals.
The Petting Farm opened on August 3 and will end on August 5.
