RCMP, Fire Marshal’s office investigating
A suspicious fire in Carleton North kept firefighters from Florenceville-Bristol, Bath, Centreville, and Hartland busy on Wednesday, Dec. 27.
The vacant home on Route 105, near Brennan’s Home Hardware in Florenceville-Bristol, was completely destroyed.
Florenceville-Bristol Fire Chief Andrew Cougle said the call came in just after 4 a.m. and was “suspicious in nature.” The incident is now being investigated by the Fire Marshal’s office and the RCMP.
Cougle said it took a few hours for firefighters to get control of the fire because of old construction.
“Fire travelled up the walls and into the attic, so it took a while to seek out all the hot spots,” said Cougle, who said the fire was under control by 8 a.m.
Cougle said his department has been busy.
“Our pagers have gone off so many times recently, I can’t even remember [them all],” he said.
Cougle said this blaze follows two other suspicious fires last week in Gordonsville and Bath.
“Between MVAs, mutual aid responses, the storm, and these fires,” said Cougle, “we’ve had 13 turnouts just in the last two weeks.”
