Housing development lots
A marketing campaign for the new housing development in Nackawic is about to begin. According to Deputy Mayor Greg MacFarlane, advertising for the sale of lots should start in early July.
MacFarlane hopes to see houses starting to be built this fall. The Deputy Mayor explained that properties are primarily single-family with some focus on multi-units and apartments. All properties will have municipal water and sewer, underground electrical and internet, sidewalks, curbs and a paved street through the center. There will also be walking trails and a waterfront nature trail extension.
Arena condenser replacement
One of the main pieces of equipment used to make ice at the arena, the condenser, will be replaced before fall. It is a crucial component of the refrigeration cycle of an ice rink. The current condenser is 10 to 15 years over its life expectancy and has caused many issues in the past.
Mayor Tim Fox said the failure of the condenser is imminent. To replace the current one, a crane will need to be brought in to remove the old unit and put in the new one. According to Recreation and Parks Director Paul Sherman, the unit needs to be ordered as soon as possible so it can be installed before October, when ice typically goes in. The council approved a motion to purchase a new condenser for $85,950 plus taxes from Black and McDonald Limited.
Marina
During Nackawic-Millville’s latest council meeting, it was noted that the marina on the Nackawic waterfront is open for the season again. Not only can you buy gas, grab a snack, and Nackawic-Millville swag, but they have started offering new items for sale, such as fishing tackle and Slush Puppies, to increase revenues.
