Man facing multiple charges after incidents on July 5
A Nova Scotia man faces multiple charges after failing to stop for Woodstock Police, ramming a police cruiser, and fleeing into the Saint John River.
In a news release issued on Tuesday, July 7, the Woodstock Police Force (WPF) noted that at 5:50 a.m. on Sunday, July 5, a WPF officer attempted to stop a red Dodge Dakota on the Trans-Canada Highway at Woodstock. The driver failed to stop and sped away.
A short time later, officers located the vehicle. The driver reversed his vehicle and rammed into the police car, causing significant damage, then fled again.
The suspect then abandoned the truck and entered the Saint John River in an attempt to escape. Officers apprehended him as he exited the water.
The suspect provided a false name to officers but was later identified as Dillon Langille of Nova Scotia. Further investigation revealed Mr. Langille was breaching conditions by leaving the province of Nova Scotia and was wanted on outstanding warrants. Police also seized a shotgun during the investigation.
Mr. Langille appeared in Provincial Court and was charged with assaulting a peace officer, obstructing police, mischief over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop for police, and breaching his conditions. Dillon Langille was released and is scheduled to reappear in court on July 28.
