Environment Canada issues Public Health Advisory and Yellow Warning Alert for heat
Environment Canada has issued a Public Health Advisory warning residents of Western New Brunswick about dangerous temperatures for Thursday, July 2, and Friday, July 3.
Temperatures are expected to hit 32 degrees Celsius on Thursday, with a humidex between 38 and 42. Overnight temperatures won’t provide much relief, with lows dipping to 22 degrees.
On Friday, temperatures are expected to hit 33, with a predicted humidex of 40.
Environment Canada says conditions are expected to slowly ease from north to south on Saturday, but southern New Brunswick could still experience high temperatures and humidity into the afternoon. Cooler conditions can be expected along parts of the immediate Fundy coast.
In a news release issued by the Western Valley Service Commission, the commission asked residents to watch for early signs of heat exhaustion in themselves and others.
“Signs may include headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine and intense fatigue. Stop your activity and drink water.”
It also noted that people should:
- Avoid unnecessary travel or exposure outdoors.
- Watch for signs of heatstroke.
- Stay hydrated.
