Trump stickers placed on Woodstock candidate’s face, RCMP say it has a suspect

Sometime overnight on Monday, April 27, a person or people damaged every municipal campaign sign for Woodstock Town Council candidate Michael Martin.

The Ward 1 candidate is running for re-election against May Atkinson.

The RCMP are investigating and says it has a suspect. They are urging anyone who may have witnessed something to come forward.

Candidate Martin did not want to be interviewed about the damage, but fellow councillor Julie Calhoun-Goodridge posted about the vandalism on social media.

Someone went to great lengths to ensure the stickers would fit perfectly, as they damaged every sign placed by Woodstock Ward 1 candidate Mike Martin. (Submitted photo)

“Someone spent a lot of time and money to try and discredit Mike,” she wrote on Facebook. “Things are getting really out of hand. Some of these signs are on private property, so this is not only a criminal offence but could also constitute trespassing.”

Damaging or removing election signs is a crime under the Criminal Code and the Elections Canada Act. People who damage signs could also be charged with trespassing, as most signs are located on private property.
