Oct. 28 agenda included new fee structure for party rentals, and municipal planning presentation
Deputy Mayor Karen Hargrove and Councillor Angel Connor advised that they have received complaints from the public about the costs for party rentals at the R. G. Bun Veysey Center.
Hargrove said she felt the district should reduce the fees and make them the same for each facility. After discussion, the council decided to set the new party rental pricing at $100.
That price will include two hours of usage of the community room and kitchen, as well as one hour of usage of their venue of choice – the rock climbing wall, the gymnasium, or the Florenceville swimming pool (in the summer).
Municipal planning presentation
Mayor Andrew Harvey gave a presentation regarding Municipal Planning and Zoning Bylaws for the District of Carleton North.
“Due to local government change, [existing] land use regulations are now inconsistent with the new boundaries of the District of Carleton North,” said Harvey. “As a result, a revised District of Carleton North Municipal Plan and Zoning ByLaw have been prepared. The municipal plan outlines the community’s long-term vision for growth and land use, and development priorities. While the zoning bylaw implements that vision by regulating land that can be used, what can be built, and where buildings can be located within specific zones in the municipal plan. The proposed bylaws will be reviewed by the Planning and Review and Adjustment Committee, with a public hearing scheduled for Dec. 9, 2025.”
Mayor Harvey said he and the council feel that there are “contents in this zoning bylaw that are restrictive and shouldn’t be there.”
He stressed that the District is committed to preserving the rural way of life.
“Seventy-five percent of the District of Carleton North is made up of LSDs,” said Harvey. “We want to protect and enrich that way of life, not restrict it. We want to encourage hobby farms, especially for the younger generation.”

Mayor Harvey urged everyone to review the documents and submit their concerns or proposed changes to the Town Office. The feedback will be collected and forwarded to the Western Valley Regional Service Commission, allowing for appropriate changes to be made.
