Organizers hope to raise $40,000 for charity
When Organizer Matthew Stockford started the Big Iron Show N Shine, he never expected it to become what it is today.
The event, taking place on Saturday, July 4, off Beardsley Road in Woodstock, is one of the biggest truck shows in Atlantic Canada and continues to grow, with trucks coming from Ontario, Quebec, and farther away.
“The Big Iron Show and Shine is two main things,” Stockford Began, “It’s a celebration of the trucking industry, a chance for guys to all get and have a day off, … and then of course it’s become kind of a staple fundraiser for the area.”
“That’s what we concentrate on, it being a truck show first but as an excuse to raise funds for charity, right?” he concluded.
The event’s proceeds this year will go to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Carlton-York, a charity that provides life-changing mentorship opportunities for local, often underprivileged youth.
“In our last four years we have raised $170,000 for local charities, and this year our goal is to raise $40,000 plus again,” said Stockford
The day will open to the public at 2 p.m and will run until 11 p.m.
On-site will be a number of food trucks, live music, a kids’ scavenger hunt, and more!
Fireworks will be launched at 10 p.m., before the last band takes the stage and wraps up the event.
Stockford also highlighted the “loud and proud” event as a highlight of the Show N Shine.
In all, trucks present will sound off their air horns and jake brakes.
Entry to the Show N Shine is by donation, with all donations going to Big Brothers Big Sisters.
